Chapter Fourteen
Diana’s POV
I managed to sneak back to the mansion without running into Madelyn and then I went straight to my room and locked the door
I wasn’t going to bury myself in chores today
I looked at myself in the small mirror and sighed
“Sucks to be me” I muttered, lightly touching my left eye that was swelling, even my lip was split
I tried to clean myself up but it hurt too much
A knock on my door made me freeze mid motion
“Diana?” It was Calum’s voice “Are you in there?”
Oh no! He couldn’t see me like this…goddess! He couldn’t see me like this
“I’m fine,” I called out, trying to keep my voice steady, even though they failed miserably “I’m just resting”
“Open the door”
“I said I’m fine” my tone came out sharper than intended and I help my lips instinctively
“Diana, I know something’s wrong. Open the door or I’m breaking it down”
From the way he said it, I just knew he meant it, so slow as a slug, I unlocked the door and opened it just a crack
His eyes widened when he saw my face “What the fuck happened?”
“Nothing, I just…”
He pushed the door open completely and stepped inside. His jaw clenched when he saw the full extent of my injuries
“Who did this to you?” His voice was dangerously low, he already had a hint
“It doesn’t matter”
“The hell it doesn’t!” He gently touched my swollen eye and I winced “Tell me who did this, NOW” was he an Alpha? How was he able to use Alpha command on me
I looked away “Selene and her friends”
He cursed under his breath “Come with me”
“Where?”
“My room, I have a first aid kit there”
“I can take care of myself” I countered. He gave me a look
“Diana, please” then his voice softened “Let me help you”
I was too tired to argue, so I just followed him to his room on the third floor
He sat me down on his bed and disappeared into his bathroom, then came back minutes later with a first aid kit and a bowl of warm water
“This might sting,” he warned before gently cleaning the cut on my lip
I hissed in pain but didn’t pull away
“Why did they do this?” he asked quietly
“Because I slapped Selene a while back….and because I…I refused to stay away from you”
His hand paused a while “She told you to stay away from me?”
I nodded “well, she threatened me, I don’t know how, but she has a photo of us in the hallway that night and she she’d send it to the Dean”
His jaw clenched again “I’ll handle Selene, just focus your mind on resting”
“No, you can’t” I almost yelled
“That’ll make everything even worse”
“I don’t care” He moved to clean the bruise on my cheek “I’m not letting her hurt you anymore”
“Calum…”
“No, Diana. I’m done watching from the sidelines. I’m done pretending I don’t care about you” He cupped my face gently, careful not to touch my injuries “I can’t resist you, I’ve tried, I swear I have…But I can’t”
My breath caught in my throat
“And I’m going to get to the bottom of who’s spreading these rumors about you,” he continued “I’ll do it secretly so you don’t have to worry”
“But…”
“No buts” He smiled slightly “Let me protect you. Please”
Something warm spread through my chest. For the first time in forever, someone was actually trying to help me. Someone actually cared
“Okay,” I whispered
He leaned forward slowly, giving me time to pull away. But I didn’t
His lips touched mine gently, carefully avoiding my split lip. The kiss was soft and sweet and made me forget about all the pain
I kissed him back, my hands coming up to grip his shirt
Then the kiss deepened, his tongue swept across my bottom lip and I opened for him. One of his hands tangled in my hair while the other rested on my waist
I pulled him closer, needing to feel him against me. Needing to forget everything else
He groaned against my mouth and his hand slid under my shirt, touching my bare skin
We pulled apart, both breathing hard
“We should stop,” he said, his forehead resting against mine
“I know” But neither of us moved
“You’re injured” he said and I shook my head
“I don’t care”
He kissed me again, harder this time. His hands explored my body while I tugged at his shirt
We fell back onto the bed together, lips never separating from mine
weight pressed me into the mattress and I loved it
His mouth moved from my lips to my jaw to my neck. I gasped when he found that sensitive spot below my ear
“Calum,” I breathed
“Say my name again,” he murmured against my skin
“Calum”
He groaned and his hips pressed against mine. I could feel how hard he was
My hands slid under his shirt, feeling the hard muscles of his back. He pulled away long enough to tug his shirt off completely
I stared at him, not wanting to tske my eyes off him
Gosh! He was beautiful…all that hard muscles and tan skin
“Your turn,” he said with a small smirk and I gasped, instinctively covering my body
I saw concern flicker in his eyes…wait! I didnt want him to stop this so quickly, I lifted my arms and he carefully pulled my shirt over my head, mindful of my bruises
His eyes darkened when he saw me in just my bra “Fuck, Diana” and he leaned down with the speed of a starved man seeing food for the first time and kissed my collarbone. Then lower to the top of my breasts. His hands cupped them through my bra and I arched into his touch
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered against my skin
“So beautiful” he breathed, feeling and fondling me through the bra
Nobody had ever called me beautiful before
His hand reached behind me and unclasped my bra with one swift move, then he pulled it off slowly and tossed it aside
Then his mouth was on my breast and I moaned loudly. His tongue circled my nipple while his hand worked the other one
“Calum, please,” I didn’t even know what I was begging for
His hand moved lower, to the button of my jeans “Can I?”
I nodded, too lost in pleasure to speak
He unbuttoned my jeans and slid his hand inside. His fingers found my wetness through my panties.
“So wet for me,” he groaned “Always so wet”
He rubbed slow circles over my clit and I thought I might die from the pleasure
But then there was a knock on his door
We both froze
“Sir?” It was Madelyn’s voice “Dinner is ready”
Fuck
“I’ll be down in a minute,” Calum called out, his voice remarkably steady
We heard her footsteps fade away
Then looked at each other and I couldn’t help but laugh, which hurt my ribs, which made me wince
“Are you okay?” he asked immediately, concern etched on his features as he reached out to me
“Yeah” I smiled despite the pain “Just sore”
He helped me sit up and handed me my shirt “We should probably stop anyway”
“Probably” But I was disappointed
We got dressed in silence and when we were both decent, he pulled me into his arms and just held me
“Thank you,” I whispered
“For what?” He asked, kissing my ear
“For caring….for…helping….for being…” I trailed off, not sure how to finish
“For being what?”
“A gentleman,” I said finally, and I felt him smile against my hair
“I’m not always a gentleman,” he said, pulling me closer “But for you? I’ll try to be”
I pulled back to look at him “You promise you’ll be careful? When you’re investigating the rumors?”
“I promise” He kissed my forehead “Now go rest. I’ll have someone bring food to your room”
“Huh? Wouldn’t that raise questions? A maid being served by another maid? Certainly unheard of” I said and we both laughed
It was like…the first genuine laugh I’ve had since mom’s exile
“It’s my house, and I make the rules” he whispered, sending shivers down my spine
“Okay”
I left his room and went back to mine, my heart feeling lighter than it had in days
Maybe things would be okay. Maybe with Calum by my side, I could survive this
I touched my fingers to my lips and smiled
Yeah. Maybe everything would be okay after all
