Chapter 406 - The heirs to the legacy - mdfour
Dante
"To the headquarters," he smiled at me.
"That's your thing. I'll stick with the business, just like Dad. I hope I don't mess up, although my namesake is helping me."
"Enrique keeps an eye on everything," he affirmed.
When I arrived in the living room, I saw my friends. As if they understood me, the older ones stood up while Sergio, Jacobo, Gregorio, and Cristofer stayed to look after their mothers and siblings. On the other hand, Milena, Isaac, Augusto, Sebastián, and Demetrio started following me.
Luckily, Dayana stayed behind; she can be a bit clingy. We followed my uncle to the office, then to the elevator. The linear elevator was incredible. When we reached the place where my father and uncles spend hours organizing operations for those working with the U.S. government, it was impressive.
Months ago, we discovered what they were doing when Milena managed to clone Uncle Simón's computer. Apparently, her program was a one-way entry, but the truth was she created a bridge, and we've been learning about their lives.
"Well, guys. This is the headquarters," it was a beauty, state-of-the-art technology, screens everywhere. "Tell me, Dante, what do you want to do?" He was measuring me. I smiled and looked at Milena, and she nodded.
"We want to see what they're doing," I said. "Let's be the visual support. Tell me, how did my Aunt Lupe die?"
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Demetrio struggling not to cry over his mother's death.
"I don't know how Lupe died. Cooper called us."
He looked at Milena, indicating with his eyes the buttons to turn everything on. The image of our parents reflected before us. Uncle Arnold was kicking the tires of a car.
"Can I talk to this Cooper?"
"Sure."
Freddy dialed the number and handed the phone to Demetrio. I looked around; this place was amazing. I felt proud of my father.
"Cooper? This is Demetrio Delgado... Yes... Can you tell me how you know the woman you found dead is my mother?" We exchanged looks, and I signaled for everyone to listen.
"I don't think I should tell you that," the man said.
"My father is going crazy! This won't work."
"She was left unrecognizable," he wouldn't give us details because we were minors. "Her driver's license was in her pants."
"My mom never carried her documents. She always kept them in the car. Are you with the body?"
"Yes, I had to come to identify it, but that won't be possible."
"My dad always said he loved seeing her tattoo. Does that body have a tattoo?"
"It can only be recognized from the navel down. Do you know where your mother had the tattoo?"
"Uncle Freddy," I called his attention. "Can you contact Uncle Arnold to find out where the tattoo is and what it looks like?" Seeing his expression made me feel strange. He touched his ear.
"Arnold, please tell me what Guadalupe's tattoo looks like and where it is." He approached the station with the most computers, pressed several buttons, and we heard everything.
"They've taken down the damn fourth drone!" Uncle Simón shouted. I looked at Milena.
"Answer, idiot, time is gold!"
"It's on her pelvis. She got 'Property of Arnold Delgado' tattooed." I looked at Demetrio, who relayed the message to Jacobo's uncle.
"I'm going back to check the body and call your father."
The call ended. The adult sat in one of the seats, staring at us. It was evident they were desperate to know where in those warehouses my sister and cousin were. They were a team; if my father doubted, they would lose balance.
"Milena, can you do something?" I was aware of my uncle's gaze, but he said nothing.
"Every drone that approaches gets taken down, but..." That was what I needed. Looking at her, "Sergio's science project." They had helped him for the science fair. It involved nanobots.
"Sebastián, go get Sergio, have him bring his science project, and test it on a mission," I ordered. Sebastián could drive.
"Follow his instructions! Tell him to leave his computer on so we can link it."
"We're running out of time, Rat!" My father shouted at my uncle.
"Do you think I don't know that, idiot? My daughter is in there too!"
"You were right, Dante," I looked at Freddy. "What do you plan to do now?" Was he evaluating me?
"Can I talk to them?"
"Yellow button that says audio, at your father's station." Looking around, it was the highest spot. I got there and activated it.
"Dad?" Everyone froze. "Can you all hear me?" Freddy nodded.
"Dante?"
"Dad, help is on the way. It will only take as long as Sergio needs to get as close to the warehouses as possible."
"What are you saying?" That was my angry Uncle Simón. I looked at Milena.
"Dad, remember we're working on Sergio's science project. From a distance, a drone can release the nanobots, and they could tell us where they are."
"That's true."
“Dad,” I resumed the conversation, “just tell me, how can we help you?”
“It’s clear they went off script and lost it. The one who wants to harm us is winning. Turn off the audio.”
“Can we see the whole picture?”
“Of course.” He went to where Milena was. I turned the audio back on.
“Dante, I just need you to tell me which building you’re in, that’s all, son.” We saw him call my uncle Arnold.
“We have to wait, Dad.”
On one side, Milena began following instructions while watching the image. They only had two cars and they weren’t armored. They didn’t think this through. I looked at Isaac, Ezequiel, and Augusto.
“Isaac, find a way to make sure Aunt Diana doesn’t notice you’re taking Augusto. Ezequiel, there’s an armored car in my garage. Each of you take one and wait at the closest spot to the warehouses.”
“How will you contact us?” Ezequiel asked.
“With something untraceable,” Demetrio said.
“Uncle, are there long-range radios here?” My question made my uncle laugh, causing us to frown.
“Of course.” He went and handed one to each of us. “Here, son,” he also handed me some keys, “Take my armored car. Isaac will use Roland’s, and Augusto will use Miguel’s.” We watched them leave. He looked back at me. “Luckily, everything done here is recorded. Your parents will want to see what’s obvious.” Freddy’s cellphone rang, and he handed it to me. “Go on, this is your operation.”
“Sergio?”
“It’s Sebastian, we’re as close as we can get.”
“Good, pass the phone to Sergio. Milena?” I handed it to my cousin.
“What’s up, Smurf?” She sat in what must be Uncle Simon’s seat. “I’m linking up now. Release them!” We saw the drone fly closer. “And this, my dear cousin, is modern magic.” Many images appeared before us.
“We just need to inform them which block they’re in.”
“Smurf, get into Sebastian’s car and don’t get out until we tell you.”
“Are all the cameras working? Dad modified them fifteen days ago.”
“Dad’s a genius.”
“I was the genius! He just helped me execute it, and you connected them.”
“If you get an A, I get half the credit,” Milena said.
“We need to talk to Cooper again.”
At that moment, we saw Uncle Arnold receive a call. I looked at Demetrio, who was almost holding his breath.
“Tell me, Cooper, what?”
……
Arnold
We saw Arnold hold his breath.
“Are you sure? Did you check thoroughly? It doesn’t have my name anywhere… Then she’s not my Renacuaja… Of course I’m sure! She tattooed my name above that spot. Property of Arnold Delgado.”
We saw him smile, and we did too. He’ll never change. Imagine tattooing each other’s names on the pelvis. When he told us, we laughed in his face, but that act is what brought him back now.
“Then she’s not my Renacuaja,” he ended the call.
“Do you know that everything you say is being listened to by our kids?” Simon said to him.
“I don’t care, I have hope. But those wedding rings on that corpse will be evidence. Roland?”
“We’re just waiting.” We had our suits on. We were near the warehouses.
“Milena…”
“Wait, Dad.” I heard my niece.
“What’s the plan?” Scratch-ass asked.
“Walk to the warehouses, take down whoever needs it, and kill only the necessary,” I said. “Rat?”
“Once Milena tells us which warehouse, I’ll send the info to Cooper, and he’ll capture Moore and John, who happens to be in Blanco.”
“Dad, they’re in warehouse three, in the last room.”
“We have the location.”
“Dad, look.”
Milena sent a video to Simon’s computer. We saw the image of my daughter, all beaten up. And not just her, Lupe and Andrea were terribly bruised. I started shaking, a shiver ran down my spine. I’m going to finish you, John. I took my phone.
“Cooper, I need John available for me.”
“Roland.”
“You’re not denying me that right!” I ended the call. “Rat, we’re under your orders.”
It took us ten minutes to walk to the warehouses. Each of us armed, each with our backpack and favorite toys, weapons with tranquilizers, and explosives.
Each took their position. I put on my hood. We entered, taking down anyone in our path. I came across a group of three men. I kicked one hard while injecting another with a tranquilizer. One shot me in the chest, the first bruise. I broke his nose with a punch.
That’s one, princess. I’ll hit each of these bastards because I don’t know who hit you. The image of my bruised daughter fueled my rage to strike at anyone in my way.
I like these weapons because I can shoot without killing. The guy I kicked got up. I went at him, gave him two more punches, and shot. I looked at my companions. Rat silenced one by choking him, and I saw Rhino doing the same further away.
