Chapter 83
Victoria and Christian had been through a whirlwind of emotions in the past few weeks. Their world had been turned upside down when Victoria had been hospitalized. It was a terrifying ordeal for the entire family.
While Victoria slowly recovered at home, Christian had tried his best to reassure their children that their mother was okay. But deep down, he had been terrified himself. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing the love of his life. And the thought of someone intentionally harming her was unfathomable.
Luke and Maya couldn’t contain their excitement at having their mother back home. They showered her with hugs and kisses every day relieved to have her safe and sound. But their joy was short-lived when they realized that their aunt Anna was nowhere to be found.
“Mom, where’s Aunt Anna?” Maya asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.
Victoria exchanged a worried glance with Christian before trying to come up with a plausible explanation. “Oh, Aunt Anna had to go away for a little while, sweetie. She’ll be back soon, don't worry” Victoria said, forcing a smile.
But Luke wasn’t convinced. “But she always says goodbye when she leaves. Why didn’t she say goodbye this time?” he pressed, his eyes searching his parents’ faces for answers.
Christian cleared his throat, feeling the weight of the lie he was about to tell. “Well, she had to leave in a hurry this time. She had some urgent business to attend to,” he said, the words feeling heavy on his tongue.
The children seemed to accept the explanation, but Luke and Maya couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. They had been close to their aunt Anna for months and her sudden disappearance without a word of goodbye was unsettling.
Days turned into weeks, and still, there was no sign of Aunt Anna. Luke and Maya’s concern grew with each passing day, and they began to ask more questions about their missing aunt. Victoria and Christian did their best to deflect their children’s inquiries, not wanting to worry them further.
Olivia, who was only two years old, seemed oblivious to Anna’s absence. She continued on with her toddler antics, unaware of the tension that lingered in the air, she was happy with her mother around. Luke and Maya couldn’t help but envy their little sister’s innocence, wishing they could be as carefree as she was.
One evening, as the family sat down for dinner, Luke could no longer keep his questions at bay. “Mom, Dad, where is Aunt Anna? Why hasn’t she come back yet?” he asked, his eyes pleading for the truth.
Victoria exchanged a somber look with Christian, knowing that they could no longer keep the truth from their children. “Luke, Maya, sit down. We need to talk,” Victoria said, her voice filled with a mixture of sadness and dread.
The children started to grow worried, wondering where their beloved Aunt had gone.
Gathering their children around them, Victoria and Christian sat them down and broke the news. About how Anna was not who she claimed to be. She was an imposter, a woman who had deceived them all. She was not Victoria’s sister.
Christian and Victoria sat in the living room, their hearts heavy with guilt and sorrow. Their children sat across from them, their faces pale and tear-stained. The truth had come out, and it was more devastating than any of them could have ever imagined.
The children were devastated. They couldn’t understand how someone they had grown to love could turn out to be a fraud. They cried and wailed, mourning the loss of their Aunt Anna. Victoria and Christian felt a deep sense of guilt, knowing that they had unwittingly brought this deception into their home.
As soon as they finished telling the children that their aunt Anna was a bad person, who was pretending to be their mother’s sister, and that she was the one who had poisoned their mother nearly killing her, the children were shocked into silence. Maya began to sob uncontrollably, while Luke’s face twisted in anger and confusion.
“I can’t believe it,” Maya whispered, her voice barely audible through her tears. “I trusted her. I thought she was family, I thought she loved us.”
Christian and Victoria exchanged a pained look, feeling the weight of their children’s pain keenly. They knew they had failed to protect their family from the monster that had been lurking in their midst.
“We should have known,” Luke said, his voice trembling with emotion. “We should have investigated her more thoroughly. We should have never let her near us.”
Christian reached out to comfort his son, but Luke pulled away, his eyes burning with resentment.
“No, Dad,” he said firmly. “This is our fault. We let her in, we trusted her. And now Mom almost died because of it, I didn’t do enough to protect my mom”
Victoria felt a surge of anger and helplessness wash over her. She wanted to scream and cry and lash out at the injustice of it all. But she knew that wouldn’t help her children heal.
“We will get through this together,” she said, her voice steady and determined. “We will protect each other from now, no matter what.”
The children struggled to come to terms with the betrayal they had experienced. Christian and Victoria spent sleepless nights consoling them.
As the days passed, the children’s sadness turned to anger. They couldn’t comprehend why their supposed aunt had done such a terrible thing. Victoria tried to shield them from the truth, but the children were relentless in their pursuit of answers. They demanded to know the full story of what had happened to Anna, they wanted to know where she was so they could confront her.
Reluctantly, Victoria and Christian sat their children down once again and revealed the grim details. Anna had also been a dangerous criminal, wanted by the authorities for a string of crimes. One of her bosses had discovered that she tried to kill Victoria and confronted her, leading to a violent confrontation that ended in tragedy, atleast that’s what they told the children.
Maya and Luke were shocked, Olivia had no idea what was going on anyway .They couldn’t believe that Anna was capable of such a thing. They withdrew into themselves, grappling with the harsh reality of what had transpired. Victoria and Christian tried to reassure them, to tell them that they were safe now, but the damage had been done.
As the days turned into weeks, the family struggled to come to terms with the events that had threatened to tear them apart. The children clung to each other, seeking solace in their shared grief. Victoria and Christian tried to move forward, to rebuild their shattered lives, but the memory of Aunt Anna lingered like a dark shadow over their home.
The twins couldn't believe how they loved Anna, Luke was more devastated because he had always been alert whenever there were new people around his mother, and the fact that he didn't really like Anna when she first arrived made him even more angry. He took so long to warm up to his own father yet he took such a short time to get used to Anna, and he loved her so much.
In an effort to help her children move past their grief, Victoria dedicated herself to spending as much time with them as possible. She would take them on long walks in the park, cook their favorite meals, and plan fun activities to distract them from their pain. But no matter how hard she tried, she could see that they still carried the weight of their loss with them wherever they went.
One day, Victoria had an idea. She decided to reach out to Serena, and invite her to come visit with Liam, Victoria knew that having another child around to play with would be just the distraction her children needed.
Serena was thrilled to hear from Victoria and eagerly accepted the invitation. She arrived at Victoria’s house with Liam in tow, and from the moment they walked through the door, Victoria could see the change in her children.
Luke and Maya were immediately drawn to Liam, who exuded a joyful energy that was infectious. They spent the entire day playing together, laughing and running around the house as if they didn’t have a care in the world.
Victoria noticed a remarkable transformation in her children. The dark cloud of grief that had hung over their heads seemed to lift, replaced by a sense of hope and joy. They began to smile more, to laugh more.
Victoria was grateful to Serena and Liam for bringing such joy into their lives, and she made sure to express her thanks.
As time went on, Maya and Luke were able to come to terms with what had happened to their family. They were able to finally forget about their fake aunt Anna and were just happy that their mother was okay. The experience had tested their bond in ways they never could have imagined, but it had also strengthened their resolve to protect each other no matter what challenges they faced.
