Chapter 26: Investors Breakfast
Arabella’s POV
I couldn't stand being close to Conrad, his face made my heart ache and all I wanted was to be far away from him, i hated him and yet I still loved him, I got inside the room and banged the door hard as i tried to comprehend what had happened, the door slowly cranked open as Emilia took some slow steps, her face covered by a frown as she hugged me.
"Don't shed any tears for that fool called Conrad, I saw what he did back there and I can say for a fact that he definitely needs some scolding, he made you look like a fool" Emilia cursed as she kept rubbing my hair.
"Conrad is getting on my nerves, he's trying to turn my son against me, can't you see the depth of his whole plan?" I screamed in anger as I pushed her away, my heart racing in fear as I turned around to wipe my tears.
"He can't do such a thing, Michael is yours and he's yours forever and you know it" Her voice assured by it did little to settle the war that raged in my heart as I tried so hard to calm my nerves.
I walked past Emilia without saying a word, heading towards my son's room only to find him fast asleep, i felt a weird sense of relief as I stared at his handsome face, he resembled his father and the thought of that always scared the hell out of me.
"Michael is yours, all you need to do is connect to him as a mother, Conrad doesn't have the love you share with that boy and you know it, i will be passing the night here, just to make sure you're ok" Emilia's voice came from behind.
Hours passed and my eyes were still on Conrad who kept making secret calls, I watched his every move but couldn't deduce any of the long conversations he had, Conrad is never up to any good in his life, he stared at me a couple of times but pretended like i had become a ghost and i simply cared less as my hatred for him burnt faster than i could love him. We lay on the same bed and it felt so silent, sleeping with the man I fell madly in love with no longer felt unique and even as he tried to touch me, I knocked his hand off in anger.
"It's my right to be satisfied and you won't deny such tonight," he said with so much authority in his voice as he owned me, i couldn't hold in the anger in me as I screamed at him.
"You lost such rights, Conrad, you treat me like trash, you abuse me, and made a fool of me today, you plot against me and still have the guts to touch my body, how foolish do you think I am?"
He didn't say a word and simply slept off and I watched as his phone kept buzzing with messages, my curiosity to open them ate me so deeply but I couldn't, I didn't even know his password to begin with, my eyes felt heavy with each passing minute, and in no time, I passed out. Only to be awoken by a gentle tap from Conrad who was impeccably dressed for an event.
"Where are you heading to?" I asked in utter confusion as he applied his cologne, he ignored my question and asked me to get dressed if my opinions never mattered.
"And why should I get dressed?, you can either answer me or leave without me as usual, I definitely won't tolerate any of your bad habits today!" I warned.
I could see the look of disgust on his face as he turned around, his phone buzzing continuously like he had become the president of the country.
"We are having some special visitors for breakfast, they informed me that they are on their way, and as a family, we have to entertain them and put up our best character" he revealed gently, his voice calm and devoid of anger and rudeness.
I was lost for some seconds as I looked out the window only to realize how bright the sun was, checked my phone, and was stunned to see 10:30 AM, i had slept in and Conrad never thought it wise to wake me until now.
"And who are these guests?, you take decisions without my consultation, we are a family but you act like a king of your own!"
"I am a king and a king doesn't care what his subjects think, they take decisions that help their family so you either give me my respect or face the wrath!" he revealed coldly.
I stood up from the bed and walked to him, my face a few inches away from his, I locked eyes with him and he didn't flinch.
"I won't get dressed and I will remain here until I know the identity of those who are coming to my house for breakfast so you can shove your authority down your throat" I whispered and turned around when his voice reverberated through the walls.
"There are the investors that you failed to meet during our travel, they were so kind to have breakfast with us, the least you can do is put up a mask, a good character mask to hide your rotten nature"
I turned around and slapped him hard, he didn't move an inch as he held his cheeks in disbelief.
"Don't you dare talk to me in such a manner, I am still your wife and I demand some respect! if there's anyone who's rotten here, it's you!" I cursed.
A faint knock on the door broke the deadly silence, I opened the door only to find Emilia standing with a cup of coffee and toast bread in her left hand, her smile as broad as ever.
"Felt you need some sort of love attention right now and there's no better way than breakfast in bed," she said, her smile still visible but before i could grab the cup of coffee, Conrad pushed me and i accidently knocked off the coffee and spilled the hot mixture all over my body and Emilia's, we both screamed in agony but Conrad walked passed us like he had done nothing wrong. I tried to charge towards him but Emilia held me back.
"He's looking for a way to break you, don't give him such an opportunity Arabella," she said, holding my hand.
"Can't believe the man I love with all my heart is turning into a beast that can't be contained, he acts like a king and expects me to follow his commands like a sheep!" I screamed.
"What has he done this time?, he seems to be well dressed for an event," she asked.
"Some guests are coming and some of them are investors, people who knew my late father, we are having them for breakfast, Conrad hasn't been himself ever since we traveled to meet this same investors, i don't know what they did to him but the man i knew wasn't himself that day" i revealed with a frown as my mind reflected on the past.
