Chapter 52: Megan's POV

The First Mother's presence filled every corner of the medical facility, her power so ancient and vast that reality itself seemed to bend around her. At twenty weeks pregnant, I could feel my baby responding to her energy with movements that rippled through dimensions I couldn't name.

She's here for us, Midnight said with a mixture of awe and nervousness. Specifically for the baby.

Through the reinforced windows, I watched as the First Mother's silver form solidified into something that resembled the wolf from my dreams but magnified beyond anything I'd experienced. Her eyes held the wisdom of millennia, and when she looked at me, I felt like she could see straight through to my soul.

Guardian-child, her voice bypassed my ears entirely, speaking directly to my consciousness. The time has come to discuss what grows within you.

"Dr. Kim," I said quietly, not taking my eyes off the ancient entity, "I think we need to pause this appointment."

"Megan," Damien said, his protective instincts flaring through our mate bond, "you don't have to—"

"Yes, I do." I placed my hand on my belly, feeling the baby's increased activity as they sensed the First Mother's presence. "If she came here specifically, then this conversation is necessary."

Are you strong enough for this? he asked through our bond.

I have to be. For the baby's sake, if nothing else.

Dr. Kim was frantically taking readings as supernatural energy levels spiked beyond her equipment's ability to measure. "The baby's activity is off the charts," she reported. "It's like they're trying to communicate with the entity."

Because they are, the First Mother confirmed, and I realized she could hear all of our conversations. The child recognizes what I am, just as I recognize what they will become.

I took a deep breath, drawing on the confidence I'd developed over months of cosmic integration work. "What do you need to tell me about my baby?"

Walk with me, child. This conversation requires privacy.

Before anyone could object, the First Mother's power enveloped me in a bubble of silver light. I felt myself being transported—not physically moved, but shifted into a space that existed between normal reality and something far older.

We stood in what looked like a primordial forest, ancient beyond imagining. The trees were taller than any I'd ever seen, their leaves shimmering with light that had never known pollution or fear. In the distance, I could hear the sounds of the first pack—wolves who had never known separation from their human halves, beings who existed in perfect harmony with both sides of their nature.

This is where it all began, the First Mother explained. Where the first werewolf was born from the union of human consciousness and wolf spirit.

"It's beautiful," I said, though the word felt inadequate.

And it is what your child will help restore.

The statement sent a chill through me. "What do you mean?"

The integration of cosmic entities, the reformation of hostile forces, the building of cooperative supernatural society—these are not separate events. They are all preparation for what comes next.

She gestured, and the forest around us shifted to show scenes I recognized: our three reformed entities learning to create instead of destroy, the training centers being built across the country, packs working together in ways that had never been possible before.

You have begun the healing, but your child will complete it. They will bridge not just the gap between mortal and cosmic, but between all the fractured pieces of supernatural society.

"That's a lot of pressure to put on an unborn baby," I said, protective instincts flaring.

It is not pressure—it is purpose. And they will not face it alone.

The scene shifted again, showing me glimpses of possible futures. My child as a young adult, surrounded by beings that had once been enemies working together in harmony. Cosmic entities serving as teachers and guardians rather than threats. Supernatural society united in ways that had only existed in legends.

But there were darker possibilities too. Futures where the integration failed, where hostile entities overwhelmed the reforms, where my child became a target for every malevolent force in existence.

The choices you make in the coming months will determine which future becomes reality, the First Mother continued. But know this—the child carries more than just your abilities and their father's strength. They carry the potential to heal wounds that have existed since the dawn of supernatural consciousness.

"The wounds?"

The separation between human and wolf that has caused so much pain. The fear between different supernatural species. The belief that power must be hoarded rather than shared. Her ancient eyes focused on me intently. Your child will be born with the natural ability to see all beings as connected rather than separate.

I thought about my own struggles with feeling broken and incomplete, about the years I'd spent believing I was missing something essential. The idea of a child who would never experience that separation, who would intuitively understand the connections between all beings, was both wonderful and overwhelming.

But there are those who will see this as a threat, the First Mother warned. Beings who profit from division and fear will stop at nothing to prevent your child from reaching their full potential.

"Like the hostile entities we've been containing?"

Some of them, yes. But also beings you have not yet encountered. Ancient forces that have been dormant since the early days of supernatural society, waiting for a catalyst powerful enough to wake them.

The thought of even older, more dangerous entities stirring because of my pregnancy was terrifying. We were already dealing with seventeen sites containing cosmic forces, some reformed and some hostile. The idea that there might be even more threats emerging was almost too much to process.

That's why the integration project is so important, she continued. Every entity you successfully reform becomes a potential ally for your child. Every hostile force you contain is one less threat they will have to face.

"What do you need me to do?"

Continue the work you have begun. Trust in the connections you have built. And prepare your child for a destiny they will choose freely, not have forced upon them.

The primordial forest began to fade around us, and I felt myself being returned to the medical facility. But before the vision ended completely, the First Mother shared one final image—my child as an adult, standing at the center of a great gathering that included reformed entities, supernatural beings of every kind, and humans who had learned to accept the magic in their world.

This is what is possible, she said as her presence began to withdraw. But only if you choose hope over fear, connection over isolation.

And only if your child survives long enough to make their own choices.

The silver light faded, and I found myself back on the examination table, Damien's hands gripping mine tightly and Dr. Kim frantically checking monitors that were still registering impossible energy readings.

"How long was I gone?" I asked.

"Gone?" Damien looked confused. "You never left. You just went very still for about thirty seconds, and your energy signature spiked beyond measurement."

Time moves differently in the spaces between realities, Midnight explained. We experienced minutes or hours while only seconds passed here.

"What did she tell you?" Dr. Kim asked, her scientific curiosity warring with medical concern.

I looked around the room at the faces of people who had become my family—my mate, my doctor, my pack. All of them willing to face cosmic-level threats to keep me and my baby safe.

"She told me that our child is going to help heal the supernatural world," I said finally. "But that there are forces awakening that will try to stop them."

More enemies, Damien said through our bond, his protective instincts already calculating new security measures.

But also more allies, I replied. Every entity we reform, every connection we build, makes our child safer.

As Dr. Kim resumed her examination and the immediate crisis passed, I found myself thinking about the futures the First Mother had shown me. The bright possibilities and the dark threats, all balanced on the choices we would make in the coming months.

Are you ready for this? Midnight asked gently.

I don't think anyone could be ready for this. But I'm willing to try.

Then we'll face it together. All of us.

The baby stirred within me, their movements carrying an odd sense of contentment, as if they had also experienced the First Mother's vision and approved of what they'd seen.

Our child is going to change everything, I realized.

In the best possible way, I hoped.
