Chapter 593: Cannot Take You Along
Molly put down her utensils and glanced around the table, noticing that a lot of the delicious food had been devoured during her feast.
She grabbed a wet wipe to clean her hands and pointed to the wine on her right, smiling. "This wine is amazing. It's rich and smooth, and it doesn't burn my throat."
It was way better than the wine she had at the wedding reception earlier.
Billy smiled warmly. "I'm glad you like it."
Molly took a deep breath and said calmly, "Billy, I appreciate your kindness and thank you for bringing me here. But I need to walk my own path from now on. I can't do it with you."
Billy's smile faltered, and he quickly tried to persuade her. "Molly, please take me with you. I don't want to stay in Regal City either. I want to go out and have fun with you. Don't worry, I won't be a burden. I'll help you plan everything!"
Molly shook her head. "It's not that I'm afraid you'll be a burden. I just want to be alone."
Seeing her firm attitude, Billy didn't know what to say.
Molly continued, "Billy, don't waste your time on me. I'm not worth it. Find someone who truly likes you, and you like her, and start a new life."
Billy's eyes lowered slightly, and he asked softly, "Molly, tell me, are you still thinking about him?"
Molly was momentarily stunned, then realized who Billy was referring to.
She shook her head firmly. "You're wrong. I'm not thinking about anyone. I'm only thinking about myself!"
From today on, to hell with love. She would live for herself!
Billy looked up at her, his body leaning forward slightly, his tone pleading. "Molly, give me another chance. You're the only one in my heart. I know I wronged you back then. I know I was wrong. I swear it won't happen again!"
Molly looked at him, her gaze calm and unwavering. "I've forgotten about the past. You shouldn't dwell on it either. Life goes on."
"Molly, you may have forgotten, but I haven't. I..."
Molly cut him off sternly. "Enough, Billy. You know my personality. Once I make a decision, nothing can change it. Don't say any more."
Her cold expression showed no room for negotiation.
Back then, when he got involved with Zola, she knew he had been set up. It had been so many years, and she didn't want to think about it anymore. It was exhausting.
Seeing her resolve, Billy swallowed his words and lowered his eyes, his face heavy with emotion.
With the atmosphere so tense, Molly didn't want to stay any longer.
She stood up slowly and said seriously, "Billy, thank you again for this meal."
Billy kept his eyes down and didn't respond.
Molly paused, then said, "I'll be going now."
Without waiting for Billy to react, she walked out of her seat and headed for the tavern door.
Billy watched her pass by without a hint of reluctance. He suddenly stood up, forcing a smile. "Molly, I have a car. Where are you going? I'll take you."
Molly waved her hand and smiled. "No need. I'll just take a cab."
Across the street in a café, Lawrence turned away from observing them. He stared at his now-cold coffee, frowning slightly.
He took out his phone and called his assistant.
The call was answered after two rings. Lawrence asked in a low voice, "Is everything ready?"
The person on the other end immediately replied, "Don't worry, everything is set. We have people at every intersection."
Lawrence nodded in satisfaction. "Good. Keep an eye on their movements and report to me at any time."
"Yes, Mr. Parker."
Despite Billy's insistence, Molly finally let him drive her to a busy intersection where she could easily catch a cab.
As they neared the intersection, Molly stopped and smiled at him. "Alright, Billy, you can drop me off here."
Billy nodded and stopped, his deep gaze fixed on her as if trying to memorize her face.
"Molly, goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Molly turned and walked toward the intersection. Just then, an empty cab drove by. She waved it down, and it stopped beside her.
She opened the door and got in, leaning back against the seat.
The driver turned to her and asked, "Where to, miss?"
Molly hesitated for a moment, frowning slightly. "To the train station."
She definitely needed to leave here. Now that she was free, she wanted to visit Grace first, then check on her bar, and finally decide where to settle down.
Silverlight City was only a two or three-hour drive from Regal City. Without a car, taking the train was the most convenient option, and it would take about an hour.
The driver nodded. "Alright, the train station. Let's go!"
He entered the address into the GPS and started the car, which slowly drove away.
Billy stood at the spot where he had dropped her off, his tall figure reflected in the rearview mirror.
Molly glanced at him once, then turned her head away.
She rolled down the window halfway, letting the cool breeze blow in. She closed her eyes slightly, enjoying the refreshing sensation on her face as she leaned back in the seat.
She was finally free!
The outside air was even cooler than the air in the courtyard. She could even taste a hint of sweetness in the breeze.
She no longer had to eat bread every day, no longer had to wake up to endless cross-stitching, and no longer had to tend to any flowers or plants!
Thinking about it made her want to shout out loud.
As she fantasized about her future, the cab driver suddenly slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a sudden stop.
The abrupt stop caused Molly to lurch forward, hitting the front seat hard. It hurt.
She clutched her chest in pain and was about to ask the driver what was going on when she saw two black SUVs blocking the cab's path.
Panic set in as she looked around and realized that not only was the front blocked, but there were also cars behind and on both sides of the cab.
They were completely surrounded.
The driver, terrified, thought they were being robbed. His hands trembled as he reached for his phone to call the police.
At the same time, the doors of the two SUVs in front opened, and a man in a black suit stepped out.
Molly squinted and muttered, "Indigo? Why is it him?"
The driver, holding his phone, turned to her. "Miss, do you know them?"
Molly nodded, noticing the driver's pale face. She quickly reassured him, "Sir, don't be afraid. They're here for me. It has nothing to do with you."
The driver sighed in relief, loosening his grip on the phone.
Molly couldn't stay in the car any longer. She opened the door and got out.
Indigo approached, smiling politely. "Ms. Koch, Mr. Parker sent us to find you. He said he has something to discuss with you."
Molly's eyes were cold as she crossed her arms and asked warily, "What does he want to discuss?"
Indigo shook his head, lowering his eyes. "I'm sorry, Ms. Koch. We don't know. Please get in the car. You'll find out when you get there."
"Where are you taking me?" Molly continued to ask.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Koch. I don't know."
Frustrated by his lack of answers, Molly raised an eyebrow and suddenly kicked him hard in the stomach.
Caught off guard, Indigo stumbled back in pain.
Molly quickly ran off the road and into the nearby woods.
Indigo steadied himself, ignoring the pain in his stomach. He immediately ordered, "What are you waiting for? Go after her!"
A group of bodyguards hurriedly chased after Molly, who was already deep in the woods, almost reaching the other side and another road.
Molly ran with all her might. She didn't want to see Lawrence again. She didn't want any more entanglements with him!
She couldn't let the bodyguards catch her. She wanted her freedom!
With that thought, she ran even faster, not stopping even when branches scratched her arms.
