Chapter 161: SALVATION IN BLACK FUR
Chapter 161.
Warren's pov.
At first, we had resigned to our fate, one filled with fighting and blood shed as the mutants had broken through the barriers, but after our combined efforts and the arrival of some old pack members, we were able to push the mutants back.
The witches spread fast as wide, strengthening the barriers, trapping us but at the same time saving us.
The mutants retreated like they had been called back and we were allowed a few seconds to breathe.
These men had been members of my former pack, and they had been sent here by my mother to find me and make sure I was safe. Other than that, apparently, my father had assumed command after some sort of barrier was dropped.
The pack was under an illusion just like the others, and after the death of Seth's imposter, his hold on them was released.
I guess that was one thing I was thankful for at the moment.
The tension between the wolves and the witches was slowly dissipating as they realised, it was better to fight together than against each other as they had a common foe.
Our moment of rest was short-lived, no matter the plan we came up with, the only way we could survive was if we killed them.
Although I was still against this, I was losing my will to pursue what was right.
Only the living can judge what's right from wrong.
I stared out the window in thought once again, wishing we hadn't driven Claudia away. We had nothing to fight against them and I alone couldn't hold them back.
A loud whistle interrupted my train of thought, I sounded around and was out the door in seconds after another loud whistle tore through the air.
It was our makeshift alarm system when the scouts at the borders of the barrier spotted the mutants returning. It had been a few days since we last saw them and so everyone scrambled to get ready.
Yes, the barriers had been reinforced, but we didn't know the limit of these mutants' powers and so couldn't take any chances.
Finch was beside me in no time, "You think something off about them?”
I didn't have to respond as the mutants just stood outside the barrier as though waiting for something. My brows furrowed in confusion.
A bad feeling surged at the pit of my stomach, my pulse quickened when nothing happened, until seconds passed and I heard the sounds of screams coming from within the barrier.
At first I thought the barriers had broken and some of the mutants had gained access into the coven but that was far from the case.
Finch and I rushed over the source of the sound, pushing past the scared crowd.
My jaws hung open as I watched in horror, Mr Denzel, Claudia's father had shifted into an enormous beast, and I'm the next second, breaking through the barriers we had created for him with ease.
“How is that even possible?” I heard Finch's mutter before springing into action and I followed behind him.
“He's a hybrid now, of course it's possible,” I yelled out but in the next second, I was tackled to the ground by another wolf.
They growled at me, snapping their jaws so close, I held them back with my head turned away from them. They were quite strong as they pressed me down hard, I used all of my energy to push them off.
I couldn't kill them, I didn't want to kill them.
I shuffled hurriedly to my feet and watched the chaos that had broken out. Finch had let Denzel slip away and battled another wolf who I assumed was one of Rita's friends.
The others being Rita, Kevin and safari who all seemed to be working together to…... .protect Denzel?
That didn't make any sense, I fought off another wolf, almost burning him alive.
My eyes shot opening fear, “HE'S HEADING TOWARDS THE BARRIER, HE'S GOING TO OPEN IT,” I yelled, taking another wolf and spinning it around before tossing it into a nearby house.
I picked up my pace and raced after Claudia's father, if he opened the barriers with his magic then we were all dead.
No matter how fast I ran, he was faster, the others shielded me from Rita and her squad but it wasn't enough, “DENZEL, NOO!!”
Before I could stop him, he had rummaged through the barrier and the earth shook as the barriers came crashing down.
They attacked.
I ripped out my claws, spinning around while tearing through a wolf, not enough to kill him, but to slow him down.
The others engaged as well, although our number has increased, we were still at a disadvantage from immortal monsters.
Time passed and a few dropped dead, we were losing, Finch ordered that they should fall back, but there was nowhere for us to go, we would be hunted down like prey.
I wondered if this was truly the end. Blood shed and chaos, this was Croft's plan to take over the world.
When I thought it was all over, I heard a loud howl that pierced through the air, filled with power and authority surpassing an alpha even.
I traced the source of the sound to the top of a cliff standing behind the brimstone coven, where the figure of a black coated wolf stood.
Its dark fur glistened in the moon light, yellow eyes that seemed to stare through my soul. A dry chuckle escaped my lips as I recognised this figure all too well.
Claudia!! A smile stretched across my face as our bit of saving grace had finally arrived. She had finally shifted again.
An aura of power surrounded her like blue green flames, a figure out of a children's book but yet, she was real, and she stood like a guardian that watched over us.
I heard the sounds of whimpering around me, which tore my attention away from her.
The battle had ceased as the wolves began to whisper, forcing themselves backwards in a retreat. They bolted like they were being burnt by black fire.
Not long after a cheer rose amongst the witches and the wolves as they rejoiced, but the one to be celebrated had yet to arrive.
