Chapter 128 Getting to know Chad

Chapter 128 Getting to know Chad

Gavriel’s POV

I raised my hand to pound on the door one more time.

“Sir,” one of Caldwell’s security guards approached, a wary look on his face. He had let my car in through the gate because he knew me and because I had threatened to run it down when he said he wanted to ask Camille if she could let me in.

“Is everything okay?”

“Yes, it is,” I tried to keep my voice even. What the hell was that bloke doing with my woman?

And it didn’t help that Caldwell wasn’t home dammit. I thought she hated his guts. Or at least disliked him enough. The door opened then and Camille opened the door with a timid smile on her face.

“Hi Gav,”

I arched my brow, “Where is he?”

“Oh come on,” she groaned, stepping aside so I could walk in before closing the door behind me. “Do you not trust me?”

I took her hand in mine and raised it to my lips. “I trust you. I do not trust any man who plants himself within a six-mile radius of you. Especially when he knows you’re home alone.”

The minx giggled, her pretty blue eyes twinkling in delight. “I doubt Chad knew my Dad wasn’t home though.”

“You’re enjoying this,” I growled.

“Maybe,” she teased, brushing her fingers against my lips.

I couldn’t help but lean into her touch, despite my annoyance. Camille had a way of disarming me with just a simple gesture.

“You’re trouble,” I murmured, pulling her closer to me.

“Guilty as charged.”

Leaning in, I captured her lips in a passionate kiss, pushing all thoughts of the bastard aside for a minute before pulling away.

“Where is he?”

“In the pantry,” she batted her lashes up at me. “Try not to hurt him, okay? I don’t want his parents hating me more than they already do.”

“No promises, kitten,” I said darkly, walking past her.

“Oh and Gav,” She whispered, hurrying to match my pace as I made my way to the living room. “He doesn’t know about us. Can we keep it that way?”

No, I wanted to retort. But it was probably better to keep it that way. Just in case the jackass decided to rat us out to Caldwell.

“Fine,” I bit out and marched through the living room, into the kitchen. A tall lean figure stood there searching the shirt in his hands. He looked up when I moved closer and his brown eyes widened in fright.

Good. Be afraid. Be fucking terrified.

“Uhm, hello sir,”

He looked a bit older than I had expected. He had to be older than Camille by a few years. The perfect age to marry her. I felt a twinge of jealousy and my brows furrowed together in a frown.

“Chad, this is my boss, Mr Gavriel Donovan,” Camille announced, walking in. “Gavriel this is Chad Martins, a family friend.”

“It’s n-nice to meet you, sir,” He mumbled, stretching out a shaky hand.

I intimated people. I didn’t even have to try, I spanned over six feet and had the build of a fucking mountain. I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t particularly enjoy it. I loved how much of a stuttering mess Chen was being and I wanted to see him reduce to tears.

Too much, Gavriel, I tried to caution myself.

“Why is your shirt off?” I growled.

“I’m sorry,” he squeaked, yanking the shirt on in a flash. He darted his eyes at Camille, asking for help. I cleared my throat and those terrified brown eyes slid back to me.

“Did you know Camille’s father wasn’t home?”

“Gav, can we just have dinner? This doesn’t have to be an interrogation session or something,” Camille groaned, tugging at my shirt.

I whipped out my wallet, handing it to her. “Order whatever you want,”

“Yes sir,” She said in that fucking sultry tone. I glared at her and she walked away giggling her head off. For someone who wanted me to keep our relationship a secret, she was tempting a whole damn lot. I’d punish her for that later.

“I didn’t know Mr Caldwell wasn’t home,” The kid confessed when I turned my gaze to him. “I just wanted to stop by and say hi or something. “

I stepped closer, until I was mere inches from him, glaring down at him. “That had better be the truth, kid.”

He was a grown-ass man, but hell yeah I’d call him kid if I wanted to.

“It is, I swear,”

“Good. I’m responsible for her when Caldwell isn’t home,” I told him, trying to give a plausible explanation for why I, Camille’s boss, was being all gungho on his ass.

“I understand sir,” Chad stammered, looking down at the floor as if the tiles could save him.

I studied him for a moment, contemplating my next move.

“Listen here, Chad. I’m sure you’re a nice guy,” I began, crossing my arms over my chest, “but Camille is… special. And anyone who wants to get close to her needs to understand that she’s important to me.”

Chad nodded fervently, his eyes wide with apprehension.

“I-I get it, sir. I wouldn’t—I mean, I don’t want to”

“As long as you get it,” I interrupted, holding a hand up to cut off his ramblings. I turned to walk out of the kitchen when he spoke again.

“I do, sir. I’m not interested in her like that. Not anymore.” He assured me.

I stared at him for a long while before nodding. “You know then,”

He gave a shy smile. “I just connected the dots. Trust me, she’s all yours. I have no interest in pursuing a woman who will never have feelings for me.”

“Then why did you come here tonight?” I demanded.

“I… I just wanted a friend. Some company. We grew up together you know, but somehow we always hated each other’s guts. I had my first real conversation with Camille in my parent’s library. I saw what it could have been like if we were friends and I wanted that.“

He sounded quite genuine so I simply warned him to stay in his lane, keep his hands to himself and he’d be safe. Chad nodded vigorously, relieved. I almost laughed at the look on his face. When I walked out of the kitchen, I followed Camille’s laughter to the dining room. Her friend Megan had arrived and they both laid out the dinner she had ordered.

“Hi, Mr Donovan,” Megan waved.

“Hello Megan,” I tipped my head at her in greeting and wrapped my arms around Camille.

“What are you doing?” She hissed and struggled to break free, her eyes wide as she glanced beside me at Chad who walked in behind me.

“He knows,” I said gruffly. “What’s the point in hiding?”

She gasped, smacking my chest in disbelief. “You told him?! I told you not to tell him!”

“He didn’t tell me,” Chad shrugged.

“Then how did you know?”

“I didn’t graduate with a 4.0 CGPA for nothing, Camille.” He said in a snarky tone and swallowed when I shot him a glare. “I was joking sir,”

“Problem solved?” Camille looked up at me expectantly and I nodded.

“Yes,” I murmured, leaning in to bury my face in her hair. “What did you order?”

“Steak,” She said gleefully. She loved the food so damned much it was adorable.

Megan and Chad introduced themselves to each other and Camille declared we might as well have a sleepover.

I watched them play silly games and diss each other until midnight. Camille snored quietly as I carried her up the stairs to her room.

I helped her out of her dress, tried not to get too enchanted by her tits, and found a night robe to cover her with. Exhausted, I yanked off my shirt and got into bed beside her wrapping her in my arms. She stirred slightly, unconsciously snuggling closer to me.

Placing a kiss on her forehead, I drifted off beside her.

Hours later, I woke to the sound of my phone ringing. I fished for it blindly, gripping Camille tighter.

“Hello?”

“Donovan? What the hell are you doing with Camille’s phone?”

My eyes widened and I glanced at the device in my hands. Shit. It wasn’t my phone that had been ringing. It was Camille’s phone.
