Chapter 120 Eavesdropper

Chapter 120 Eavesdropper

Camille’s POV

Well, that was hurtful. A little bit too painful especially when it came from a man whom I had seen as a father for about a year. I hadn’t meant for Mr Martins to hear. I’d just wanted to scare Chad so he could be against the marriage as well. Our parents couldn’t possibly force two unwilling parties to get married, could they?

“Mr. Martins, I’m so-“

“Save it, Camille,” he interrupted, his voice cold and cutting. “I may be bedridden, but my ears still work just fine. I never would have imagined you could be so callous and disrespectful. When I heard Caldwell’s daughter was a brat, I didn’t know how true that was. And you have shown me.”

Well, shit.

I hadn’t expected it all to bounce back on my father.

My cheeks burned with shame as I struggled to find the right words to apologize.

But before I could speak, Chad spoke up in a rather small voice, his eyes still on the rug.

“I… I’ll be in my room.”

He walked away quietly, avoiding meeting my eyes.

Well, that was fun. Until it wasn’t. Everyone stared at me and then at each other and I felt stupid. Perhaps I could have come up with something else, anything other than shaming my dad before his friend. His very sick friend.

I screwed up.

“Mr Martins-”

“I think you have done enough damage for the day Camille, shut it.” Dad hissed, throwing a severe look my way before walking up to Mr Martins.

“I know my daughter is a handful, Martins. I’m sorry. I apologize for her rude behavior. I’ll speak to her and make sure she changes.”

“I assume that’s what you have been doing in the past twenty years then?” Barbara scoffed behind me, giving me the stink eye while wheeling her husband to a nearby sofa.

Dad went ahead to help her lift Martins off the chair onto the sofa.

“My dad’s been a good father. I’m the one who gives him a hard time.” I defended myself.

“For goodness sake, Camille shut the hell up!” Dad bellowed and I gaped at him in shock.

“I was defending you!”

“You should have thought about that before you embarrassed me!” He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as if trying to calm himself down, before turning to Martins.

“She can be very difficult,”

“All the more reason why I do not want her for my son,” Martin grumbled.

“Well, that’s great. I didn’t want your son in the first place.”

My father looked like he wanted to find a cold river and dunk my head in it. I mimicked zipping up my lips and found a wall to lean on.

Sitting would only make me seem more like a brat and less like a girl who just wanted to get out of a silly engagement.

I missed Gavriel. If Dad hadn’t sprung up this dinner on me, then I could have had dinner with him. We’d talk about nothing and everything and maybe I could get him to read a book to me.

If he were here, I eyed the trio in the room; my dad, Barbara, and Martins; as they discussed among themselves. If Gavriel were here he would probably cart me off somewhere secluded to discipline me for causing a tantrum. Barbara shot me a disapproving glance as she whispered something to my father. I almost laughed at the memory of her calling me ‘sweetie’ like five minutes ago.

I saw my phone light up with a message notification, and I quickly excused myself from the tense atmosphere in the living room. Walking through the corridor, I checked my messages. It was Gavriel.

“Still at the dinner with Charles?”

A giggle slipped from my lips. He had mispronounced Chad’s name on purpose.

“We just got here like five minutes ago and I already turned the whole family against me. Currently searching for a hole to crawl up and hide.”

As I hit send, I looked up to see multiple hall paths. Without thinking I walked through one and found the library.

And boy it was huge.

It made me wonder though. Did Chad turn out to be a nerd because they had a huge library, or did they have a huge library because Chad turned out to be a nerd? My phone rang and a shitty grin found its way to my face.

“Hi,”

“Do you want me to come pick you up?” His deep silvery voice washed over my skin like a warm hug and I sighed.

Closing the door behind me, I made my way to one of the settees in the library and slumped on it.

“I wish I could say yes to that. But Dad would probably kill me if I left. He was pretty pissed.”

Gav chuckled. “What did you do, Camille?”

“I may or may not have called Chad a few offensive names and mocked him about Med school?”

“He’s in college?”

“He’s graduated actually,” I mumbled. “He’s a doctor. I knew that but I pretended I didn’t and shamed him for a few things.”

“Damn, Camille.”

“I know, I know. I’m a bitch,”

“No,” He replied grumpily. “You’re not. Your idea to break things off was way better than mine.”

That had me perking up. “What were you thinking, you oaf?” I teased, toying with a strand of my hair.

Good heavens I was giggling like I was some teenager again.

“I thought about buying out Martin’s industries. I’d influence their stock value, cause it to plummet then buy them out at a ridiculously low rate. Then I’d offer to repair all damages anonymously as long as Chase stays away from you.”

I gaped in shock at the stack of books before me. “Oh my god, that’s devilish,”

“Now, now, let’s not get carried away with the name-calling,” Gavriel chided. “If you need help getting out of there, I can do so in a snap, kitten. Just say the word.”

His voice had lowered to that low hypnotic rasp and my thighs involuntarily pressed together.

“You want me to come over?”

“Terribly. I had been worried you were going to get engaged tonight and I would have to bring out the big guns. Now that that is out of the way, I could get your mind off the whole fiasco, Love.”

Oh, he could. He would. I rarely had my wits with me whenever I was spread out for him. He was like the forbidden candy that I couldn’t stop wanting.

“Mhmm,” I drawled, cupping my tits through my dress. “And how would you get my mind off it?”

Gavriel’s chuckle sent shivers down my spine. “Oh, I have a few ideas in mind. How about I start by reminding you just how much you belong to me?”

His voice was like velvet, smooth, seductive, and commanding all at once. I could practically feel the heat pooling between my thighs as I let out a breathy sigh.

“That sound,” He murmured. “Are you touching yourself, Camille?”

“No,” I moaned, kneading my breasts harder.

“Don’t lie to me, baby girl.”

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled. “I was playing with my boobs.”

“Naughty girl,” He chastened. “I love it when you play with yourself, Camille, but only when you’re with me. It gets me all worked up knowing you’re thinking of me.” His voice was like a drug, intoxicating and addictive.

I bit my lower lip, feeling a rush of desire wash over me. “I can’t wait for you to be here,” I whispered breathlessly, my hand trailing down to the hem of my dress.

“You will wait, Camille. If you touch that pussy, you’ll get punished. Do you understand me?”

Gavriel ordered. “Just keep that pretty little body of yours ready for me.”

“Will you come and get me, Daddy?”

“Okay, uhm,” I froze at the familiar awkward voice and glanced up to see Chad shuffle out from behind one of the annoying tall bookshelves.

Oh shit, he had been in the library all along.

“What the hell?!” I screeched, lunging on my feet. He had heard me on the phone. Well, at least my side of the conversation.

And I was just about to get naughty. He must have seen me clutch my boobs like some hungry whore.

Oh my gosh!

“You were eavesdropping?!”
