Chapter 69: Sofia's Jealousy
Sofia looked between Hayden and Natalia wanting to bring up the fact that she was with him first. She wanted to break their happiness and have it for herself. However, the longer she waited, the more her nerve started to fade. Seeing how Hayden was with Natalia, she knew talking about their few minutes of sex that obviously meant nothing to him wouldn't matter to either of them.
"What did you want to say?" Questioned Natalia with a small smile.
"I just wanted to say that I am going to do everything I can to have Jon sentenced to death. He has killed too many people to skate by, with life in prison. I want his head on a platter." Sofia spoke with conviction as she pulled out a pad of paper from her briefcase. She was still going to get around reminding Hayden of who she was, but she decided it would be best done in private. Maybe he would see her out when she was leaving.
Natalia looked at Sofia, not believing she was being completely honest. It felt as though she had been about to say something else but had changed her mind at the last minute. She didn't miss the look in the prosecutor's eyes whenever Hayden kissed her or touched her tenderly. It was a look of jealousy.
"Thank you," Natalia said, watching the woman's face as Hayden kissed her cheek. She glanced at Kirsti and saw her also looking at Sofia suspiciously. They both were good at reading people.
"I would like to review a few things about how this will work. I promise to be quick." Sofia now wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Despite Natalia's smile, she could tell that she was studying her.
Hayden watched as Sofia seemed to have a sudden change in demeanor. She fumbled with getting out her pen and kept crossing and uncrossing her legs. He wrapped his good arm around Natalia, and she snuggled closer to him. That's when he saw the anger cross Sofia's face. He wondered what her problem was.
"Tell us what you need to because we have some celebrating to do. I asked Natalia to marry me." He stated before kissing Natalia's head. He saw Sofia's mouth get tight, and fury flashed in her eyes.
"Congratulations." She replied, yet everyone in the room could tell she wasn't sincere.
"Thank you," Natalia said before leaning back and kissing Hayden's cheek as he held her tighter. Both of them were watching Sofia's reaction.
"Eventually, I'm going to want to get statements from each of you regarding every interaction you had with Jon. Including how he terrorized you, threatened you, and how he made you feel. I want to know everything. The details are essential in a case like this. They can make or break a case." She looked around at the four of them and noticed Dorian was staring at her with narrowed eyes. For some reason, she suddenly felt a chill down her. Why was he staring at her like that? She had noticed that he had been on the computer since she'd been there. What was he doing?
"Do you want us to write them out, or are you going to interview us?" Krista asked.
"I'll interview you and record it. We can play some of the interviews during the proceedings for impact." Sofia stated, noticing Dorian was back typing on the computer.
Dorian was looking up Sofia online, trying to find everything he could about her. Hayden had given him a look when she walked in, and he understood that he wanted to know about her. She had an impressive winning record. However, he had looked deeper than the surface and found some of her dirty little secrets. Some of those wins she got by lying, cheating, and laying down for some judges. It's amazing what people share online in what they think is a secure environment. He wondered what her angle was with them now. Like everyone else, he saw how she kept looking at Hayden and Natalia.
"What else do you need from us?" Hayden asked sternly. He was getting tired of this woman and wanted to know what Dorian had found.
Sofia felt flustered hearing Hayden speak to her so harshly. She was sure he would never talk to Natalia like that. From the looks of it, he didn't do anything other than treat her lovingly. It wasn't fair for her to have all that money, a good career, and a man. Sofia was sure she never had to work hard for any of it.
"Nothing right now, but I want to speak to you separately when I interview you. It's the only way to get the whole story and ensure you don't only remember details because someone else says them." She smirked at the touchy-feely couple but saw them both shaking their heads.
"Not going to happen. Natalia and I go nowhere without each other. I refuse to let her out of my sight. When you interview us, you'll do it with us together and at a place of our choosing. If you don't like it, you can take it up with the DA, who is a good friend of mine." Hayden was speaking with ice in his voice. He didn't know what this woman's problem was, but he was close to getting her pulled from this case.
"You don't have the authority to take me off anything. I'm closer to the DA than you are. That's why I get all the good cases. If you don't do as I say, I can't guarantee a win in this case. I would hate for Jon to get out on a technicality." Sofia felt like she was getting backed into a corner, and she wasn't going to hold back. She had done too much to not keep this case.
"I've looked you up, Sofia, to see what kind of prosecutor you are." Dorian grabbed her attention, and she looked at him with a knowing grin.
"So you see, I'm the best one for the job. There's no one as good as me." She stated smugly, but Dorian looked at her in disgust.
"I guess it depends on what job you're talking about. Yes, you have a lot of wins. What did you have to do to get those wins?" He asked her.
"Wh...what do you mean? I won them with my skill." Sofia stuttered, wondering if he somehow found something out about how she really won cases. There was no way that information was online.
"From what I've seen, you've tampered with evidence. You've thrown victims under the bus by lying to them to get a deal. Then there are the judges that you've been with. Do they like it under the desk or on it?" Dorian asked her with a straight face. She was the worst prosecutor for this case because she was bound to screw it up.
"So you want to threaten us, yet you're willing to trample on your morals and ethics code to get a win. Do you think I want someone like you to try to put the man who tried to kill us behind bars? You've got to be out of your mind." Hayden spoke quietly and saw Sofia's face go white.
"I...how...I am the best person for this. You can't take this away from me. I promise I'll do whatever you want as long as you let me keep this case." Sofia was begging now. She knew their money was powerful. If he called the DA, he may not only take her off the case, he could fire her.
"Sorry, but any man who puts my fiance's life in danger isn't going to be put in the hands of someone who will drop on her knees for a win. You make me sick. Get out of our apartment." He waved his hand at her letting her know they were done talking. Sofia felt her pulse begin to race. This wasn't how this meeting was supposed to go. She was supposed to be making Hayden fall for her. When her back was against a wall, she fought, and that's what she was going to do now.
"Really? Well, I was good enough for you once before." Sofia said slyly. Hayden glared at her.
"What are you talking about?" He asked through clenched teeth.
"About two years ago, you and I slept together. I didn't hear any complaints then. In fact, you stayed with me all night doing it over and over until we were too exhausted to move."
