Chapter fifty six

Chapter fifty six

Drayton

I'd had my own fair share of mind blowing sex. Hell, I got my first blow job when I was in middle school at the age of fourteen. Granted, the girl was inexperienced and I didn't remember who she was after we were done. But it was great then.

I was fifteen when I first fucked a girl. She was older, probably seventeen, and more experienced so it was great too. But nothing, nothingggggg, came close to what Arielle made me feel last night. And we didn't even have sex.

I have never orgasmed from just fingering a girl before. But all it took for her to get me undone was one throaty sound. I would give anything to hear that sound again.

It didn't seem like I would be hearing it soon given how she ran out yesterday, and how she's pretending I didn't exist.

I figured she needed space and decided to give it to her. But I don't think I can keep it up for much longer. She'd barely said ten words to me today. Even when we were enemies, we still talked.

But there was nothing I could do except wait. Not when we were currently sitting in detention anyway.

Ms Brown had heard about the fight that happened at the gym yesterday and gave all us detention for the rest of the week. Coach gave Jack and I extra workout sessions. But since Jack is still in the hospital, I could escape Coach's punishment for today.

But Coach made it clear I had to go visit Jack today. I had no doubt that Jonathan put him up to it. It didn't matter when I intended to visit Jack anyway. I had to at least apologize for being the reason he was in the hospital.

Jonathan had sent me a single text this morning containing the address of the hospital Jack was in. No pleasantries, no mention of what happened yesterday, just an address.

Not like I'd expected anything, but it still stung. I blocked the number immediately but I knew it was pointless. He'd just text me from a different number another time.

“Alright, detention is over. Everyone go home. I don’t want to hear about anymore fights breaking out or we're keeping this up for another week.” Ms Brown said, directing the last sentence to me.

I fla implied I understood.

Laura walked out of the classroom first, leaving me with Arielle. She gave me a blank stare and hurried out.

Okay, fuck giving her time to process.

I hurried after her and caught up with her before she made it to the parking lot.

“So you're just going to avoid me forever. You do realize we live together, right?”

“I'm not avoiding you. I've just been really busy today.” She said without meeting my gaze.

“Last night…” I started but she cut in,

“Was a mistake. We got caught up in the moment and did something we won't normally do. It would never happen again.”

“Wait, what?”

She did not just call the best orgasm of my life a mistake. I was too stunned to say anything except stare at her, hoping it was a joke.

“Oh! You're serious.”

“Of course, I'm serious. We don't have to talk about it and make things awkward between us. We make really good friends.” She said.

I couldn't figure out what to respond with. I didn't want us to forget about last night, and I sure as hell didn't want to remain ‘friends’ with her. But how was I going to say that without coming off as too clingy.

Solution: I don't say it.

Besides, I didn't know what we would be if not friends. Her parents were going through a divorce, my father was bent on getting me to live with him, and we live together. And we'd been enemies for the most part of our lives. Any relationship between us was doomed for failure.

But the realization didn't stop the tightness in my chest as I said,

“Yeah, sure. If that's what you want. It's cool. We can be friends.” I plastered a grin on my face despite my churning insides.

“Okay, great.” she nodded.

We stood in the most awkward silence for a few seconds. Neither of us seem to know how to break it.

“I'm…”

“Are you…” we spoke at the same time.

“You first.” I said.

“I'm going to meet up with Suzie and Brett about the showcase. Suzie said there's an update. Do you wanna come?”

“No… I mean, yes I would, but I have to run an errand real quick. I'll see you there.”

Shit! That sounded like a terrible excuse. She didn't know about Jack's current condition. I couldn't tell her about it when I didn't even know the details.

I contemplated it though. Having her with me would surely make whatever I was about to face easier. But for some reasons, I didn't want her to know about Jack's condition.

“I'm not making an excuse, I really have to be somewhere.” I added quickly.

“Sure.” The smile she flashed me was clearly fake. “I guess, I'll see you later then.” She walked away before I could reply.

I walked towards my car and drove off.

I was waiting for the elevator to take up to Jack's ward when the doors opened and the person I came face to face with Jack's mother. And beside her was Laura and a woman I didn't recognize.

“Hi, Mrs Sinclair.” I smiled.

I'd considered the possiblity of running into her here and what I was going to say if she asked about the fight. Tell her the truth and hope she doesn't lose her temper.

But if she did lose her temper, I'd apologize as best as I could. Whether she forgave me or not was up to her.

But as she stepped out of the elevator, she didn't immediately start lashing out with me like I expected.

“Oh my God! Drayton! I haven't seen you in forever. You're so big now. Come here.” She opened her arm and wrapped me in an embrace.

Okay, definitely not what I expected.

I hugged her back awkwardly. I was a lot taller than her but she didn't seem to mind as she ruffled my hair.

“How have you been?” She asked when she finally pulled away. “I haven't seen you around. Just because Jack has been sleeping over at your place doesn't mean you shouldn't visit anymore.”

I didn't know how to respond to that. Jack and I haven't been friends for almost two years now, and he definitely hasn't slept at my place since then.

My gaze went to Laura standing behind Jack's mother. She seems to understand my plight as she stepped forward.

“Auntie, why don't I take him to Jack's room? I'll meet you in the car real quick.” She signed.

“That would be nice. Thank you, Laura.” Mrs Sinclair said. “Drayton, I'll be going now. Make sure to come for dinner sometime.”

“Bet.” She gave me a quick hug and walked away.

Laura and I stepped into the elevator.

“He didn't tell his family about the fight.” Laura signed after the elevator doors closed.

“He didn't tell anyone that you aren't friends anymore.”

“But why? We haven't been friends for a while it made no sense.”

“I don't know what he was thinking.” She shrugged. “But I want to ask you not to use this moment to fight. Work out whatever is between the two of you. I don't know what happened between you, but you've been friends for too long to let it drift you apart.”

“It's not that easy to fix.” I muttered.

“It will be if the both of you stop trying to hurt each other. I think this will be sorted if you two just talk like normal adults. Life is too short to spend fighting with each other.”

She didn't say anything more until the elevator stopped, but I didn't need to hear more. I knew what I had to do.
