Chapter 259

Vivian

The sound of music greeted us as we reentered. The delicious aroma of food made my stomach growl, reminding me I hadn't eaten since breakfast.

The party was in full swing, with people mingling throughout our home. The living room had been transformed with subtle decorations that reflected both Lucas's minimalist taste and my love for warm, inviting spaces.

Vortend stood with his arm around Selene, discussing something that caught my attention as we passed.

"The Werewolf-Human Alliance is investigating those rumors the hunters have been spreading about Moon Shadow Syndrome," Vortend was saying to Selene, his voice low.

I smiled to myself, certain that Lucas had played a key role in exposing this issue.

'That's my mate for you...' I thought with pride. Lucas had been working tirelessly behind the scenes, using his connections and resources to track down the source of these dangerous rumors. His dedication to protecting our kind, even those outside our pack, was one of the many reasons I loved him.

Speaking of Lucas, I spotted him across the room playing a boxing game with Max. Lucas patiently blocked the little boy's tiny punches, offering gentle guidance on proper form.

"Keep your thumb outside your fist," I heard him instruct softly, demonstrating the correct position. "That's it, good job."

The sight warmed my heart—this man who had once been feared by so many, now teaching a child with such tenderness.

"Harrison and Malcolm have arrived," Archer announced beside me, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Perfect!" I exclaimed, hurrying toward the kitchen to prepare for our newest guests.

---

In the kitchen, I was arranging platters when Selene entered.

The kitchen island was covered with an impressive array of dishes—from traditional werewolf cuisine to modern favorites.

"Who's responsible for the catering?" she asked, eyeing the impressive spread with appreciation.

"I ordered it all from outside," I admitted with a sheepish smile, making her chuckle.

"Smart choice," Selene approved with a knowing smile. "I did the same for Ethan's birthday last month. Some battles aren't worth fighting."

Selene helped me carry out the food on the plate. As I reached for ice in the freezer, strong arms suddenly wrapped around me from behind, making me jump in surprise.

"Oh my God, Lucas!" I gasped, my heart racing. "You scared me!"

"What did I say about letting your guard down?" he murmured against my ear, his warm breath sending shivers down my spine.

I turned slightly in his embrace, my voice dropping to a teasing whisper. "Hmm, I seem to have forgotten... what are you going to do, punish me?"

Lucas slid his hand beneath my top, his palm warm against my stomach as he caressed the skin there. The simple touch sent electricity through my body, and I had to resist the urge to lean back against him completely.

"I'll surprise you..." he threatened softly, his lips brushing against my earlobe. "Watch your back."

He grabbed the ice and walked away, looking back at me with a lip bite that made my heart race and my cheeks flush.

'Goddess, this man...' I thought, watching him go, admiring the confident swagger in his step.

---

I followed Lucas with a smile, ready to enjoy dinner with our friends and family.

"Oh, Dominic! Caleb! Come in," I welcomed warmly as they stepped through the door, both carrying bottles of wine.

Daisy Pierce and her family arrived shortly after, her children immediately running to join Max and Lily in the corner where they'd set up an impromptu play area.

I found myself scanning the doorway, wishing Grace were here too. 'I should check on her soon,' I made a mental note, wondering how she and her sister were doing.

The conversation flowed easily around the table as everyone settled in, the atmosphere relaxed and joyful. The clink of glasses and the warm laughter created a symphony of contentment that filled our home.

"Can someone pass the wings?" Dominic called from across the table.

"Here you go," Lucas replied, sliding the platter down.

"Thanks, these are delicious," Dominic mumbled through a mouthful, earning a playful eye-roll from his mate.

Lucas pulled me close as I supervised the serving, his hands resting on my hips before giving them a playful squeeze that made my cheeks flush.

"Behave," I warned quietly, conscious of our guests watching.

"But you don't really want me to, do you?" he whispered back, his voice low and seductive, sending a pleasant shiver down my spine. His eyes darkened slightly, that familiar hunger making my breath catch.

Dominic hooted at our exchange, raising his glass in a teasing toast. "To the Alphas who still can't keep their hands off each other!" he called out, making everyone laugh.

I couldn't deny Lucas was right—I never really wanted him to behave.

The dinner conversation continued cheerfully, the room filled with the comfortable chaos of family and pack sharing a meal.

"Thank you, that's the salad!" Selene called as a bowl was passed her way.

"Great, Lucas brought the ice, thanks," Vortend acknowledged with a nod.

"And he brought the heat too," I added without thinking, causing everyone to burst into laughter.

---

As night fell, Dominic lit a bonfire in the clearing, the flames casting a warm glow on everyone's faces.

Vortend took charge of the music, and a traditional werewolf celebration tune filled the air, its drumbeats harmonizing with the night breeze.

Selene was the first to approach the fire, pulling Sophia along with her. "Come on, I'll teach you the traditional Moon Dance," she offered.

Ethan looked hesitantly at Lucas. "Do you dance?" he asked, making Lucas shift uncomfortably.

I bit back a smile, knowing how my mate felt about dancing in public.

I gently nudged Lucas. "Go on, show him a few steps." My eyes conveyed what my words didn't—this mattered for building bonds with the children.

To my surprise, Lucas moved with unexpected grace, leading Ethan in fluid movements around the fire. His body flowed with natural rhythm I'd only witnessed in more private settings.

Max and Lily joined in, their small hands clasped together as they hopped around the fire, their laughter ringing like silver bells in the night air. Soon, nearly everyone had joined the circle.

Harrison and Malcolm sat nearby on log benches, raising glasses and reminiscing.

"This is how we used to celebrate back in the day..." Harrison was saying, a rare smile softening his features as he watched the dancers. "Your mother was always the first to start the dance," he added, his eyes finding mine briefly across the fire.

I watched it all with a full heart, taking in the scene of my growing pack—Dominic and Caleb teaching their signature moves to the younger wolves; Selene spinning Sophia in graceful circles; Lucas now showing Max how to leap like a true wolf. 'This is what pack means,' I thought. 'This is family, not about blood, but about belonging.'

As the bonfire gradually diminished, the singing grew louder, everyone linking arms to form a complete circle around the dying embers.

---

After everyone had left, Lucas and I stood alone by the glowing remains of the fire, our eyes locked in silent communication.

The night had cooled, but I felt nothing but warmth as he drew me close.

Lucas gently stroked my cheek, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw. "You were beautiful tonight."
