Chapter 112: They’re happy
POV Begay:
“Are you going now?” I ask, crossing my arms to fight off the cold creeping into my body.
Therak starts to nod, but the snap of a branch behind him makes all of us tense.
Therak and Asher growl in warning, thinking it’s a threat, but I recognize the scent of the approaching female, so I rush in front of them, stopping them from making a terrible mistake.
“Felícia?” I call, spotting the Luna’s tail swaying behind a fir tree.
She lifts her head at my voice, and I see she’s holding a small cloth bag in her mouth.
I hear her bones shift, and moments later, she returns in human form, wearing a loose dress that hides her naked body. In her hands, she holds a white ribbon.
A ribbon just like the one I was supposed to place on Una’s head when presenting her to Therak.
“Hello, Begy. It’s good to see you again.” The omega gives me a small smile before looking at my mates, who relax when they realize we’re not under threat. “Therak, Asher.” She nods to them, then turns to Una, visibly surprised.
“Why do you look like me?” the little fox asks, tilting her head as she studies Felícia.
“Because we’re related. We share the same father.” The Luna hesitates before saying the last part and places her hands over her belly, where I know she’s carrying three new pups.
I’m surprised I can’t scent Dalton and Orion nearby. They never leave her side when she’s pregnant!
“Begay said we’re sisters. But you’re not a fox... And I didn’t have a father.”
“Trust me, you were lucky not to grow up with him.” Felícia’s voice is filled with pain and anger. Despite everything Bethal did, I know she loved him deeply, and it hurt to see what he truly became. “Anyway, I didn’t come here to talk about that bastard. I came to complete my husband’s part of the blood agreement.”
“Orion’s part is already done. He gave me my mate,” Therak says, frowning as he wraps an arm around Una’s waist, pulling her closer.
“No. There’s one detail left, and I came to fix it now. The ribbon.” Felícia lifts the object, catching Una’s curious attention. “Promises sealed in blood must be fulfilled down to the smallest detail. The Goddess takes that very seriously—and so do I.”
She asks for permission to approach with her eyes, and Therak agrees with a small nod.
Her steps toward Una are steady, and I’m surprised when my mate doesn’t shy away. They face each other with the same proud stance.
“After all, we’re talking about my husband’s life,” she continues, raising her hand to bring the velvet ribbon to Una’s reddish curls—slightly lighter than her own. “I’ve already seen one of them die. I have no intention of repeating that experience.”
Guilt stirs in me at the memory of the pain I helped cause her and Orion, but I don’t have time to dwell on it. The moment the clasp fastens into Una’s hair, a faint tremor runs through the ground, and a supernatural silence falls over the forest.
Even the wind stills, as if waiting for what comes next.
“Therak, Alpha of Moonclaw Ridge, I deliver to you your destined mate, the omega you have tirelessly sought in recent years, in the name of Orion Donavan, Alpha of Juneau,” Felícia’s voice echoes through the trees, carrying something magical. “Here concludes his part of the blood bond formed in the Mendenhall Ice Caves, sanctuary of the Moon Goddess, mother of all Lykae.”
“Thank you.” Therak bows his head humbly, acknowledging that he wouldn’t have found Una without help.
“Take good care of her. Of them,” my friend corrects herself, glancing at me. “You have two members of my family as mates. If you hurt them, you’ll answer to me.”
Her protective tone makes me laugh—but it also warms my chest with love and joy.
Felícia turns to leave, but just as she’s about to disappear among the trees, she stops and looks back at Therak.
“One last thing, Alpha of Moonclaw Ridge.” Her golden eyes carry something that sends chills down my spine. “The next time you even think about leaving my children without one of their parents, I’ll make sure you can’t have pups. And it will be very painful.”
“Good thing the Goddess didn’t pair me with her...” my mate mutters only after the red lynx is gone, making me chuckle even more. “Poor Dalton and Orion.”
“They’re happy,” I say, stepping forward to take Una into my arms.
She doesn’t seem to fully understand what just happened, but she touches the white velvet ribbon in her hair with fascination.
In the end, the little fox doesn’t really care whether she has a sister or not. It won’t change anything in her life—or Felícia’s.
Maybe in the future, when Una is more accustomed to human ways, they can try to get closer. They are two strong, powerful women, with great potential to become friends.
Time will take care of that.
“So will we,” Asher says, speaking for the first time since the Luna arrived. “We just need to deal with this problem with Therak’s father.”
“I’ll deal with the problem,” Therak corrects with a growl. “The three of you will go somewhere safe. It can’t be the cabin anymore—my father has your scent there. Maybe it’s best if you leave the state.”
“Leave the state? Without you?” I gasp, unable to believe he actually thinks that’s a good idea. “Not happening!”
Therak’s face hardens in a way that would frighten anyone else—but I don’t back down.
I simply release Una, who begins squirming in my arms.
“I’ve been a coward for too long, Therak. I won’t abandon another mate!” Asher stomps his foot, making his stance clear. “You want to face your father? Fine. We’ll all go together. That’s what mates do. We fight as one.”
“You have no idea what my father is like.” Therak clenches his fists, looking on the verge of losing control again.
“Um… boys?” Una’s voice, so soft I almost don’t hear it, makes all of us stop and turn toward her.
Or rather—it’s not the voice that catches our attention.
It’s the scent.
Warm. Thick. Sweet.
“W-what’s happening to me? Why am I so hot?” the little fox trembles, her hands pressed to her belly.
Her cheeks are flushed darker with heat, and the pupil of her one seeing eye is fully dilated.
“Fuck, she’s in heat!” Therak exclaims, just as shocked as Asher and I are.
