Chapter 150: The Last Confession 2
The Last Bullet 2
ISABELLA
When I opened my eyes, the ceiling above me swam into view familiar, pale ivory, edged with the faint shimmer of gold paint. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. The faint scent of lavender drifted through the room, clinging to the sheets beneath my palms.
My heartbeat stumbled.
No. This can’t be real.
The silky blanket beneath my fingers, the soft hum of the chandelier all of it screamed Damian’s mansion.
I sat up too fast. The world tilted. My pulse pounded in my ears.
“This isn’t happening,” I whispered, pressing my hands to my face. My palms were cold. My breath came out shaky. I slapped my cheeks lightly. “I must be dreaming.”
“Don’t hurt that beautiful face.”
The voice soft, deep, achingly familiar rippled through the room like a forgotten melody. My blood froze. For a heartbeat, the air itself felt too heavy to breathe.
I turned toward the sound.
He stood at the doorway, framed by the pale morning light. Damian.
Alive.
My chest tightened until it hurt. I blinked once, twice, but he didn’t disappear. He was real—his broad shoulders, the faint scar by his lip, the exhaustion in his eyes that told a thousand stories.
“You’re alive,” I whispered. My voice barely left my throat. I tried to stand, but my legs trembled and gave out. The mattress dipped beneath me as I sank back down.
“My daughter…” The words tore out of me. “Valentina has her. Please please get my daughter back!”
He took a slow step forward. The floorboards creaked under his weight. His face softened, and something fragile flickered in his eyes.
“Our daughter is fine,” he said quietly. “She’s sleeping. You know I’d never let anyone hurt her.”
I stared at him, searching for the lie but there was none. Just the sound of his voice, warm and careful, wrapping around me like a fragile promise.
Tears blurred my vision.
He crouched beside me, close enough for me to see the faint tremor in his hands. “I like the name you gave her,” he murmured. “Julian.” His fingers brushed mine, hesitant at first, then firm. The warmth of his touch spread up my arm, thawing the cold that had lived there for years.
I wanted to pull away. I wanted to scream. But my heart betrayed me.
“Please,” he said, voice breaking. “Forgive me, Isabella. I was a fool. I hurt you, and I can’t take that back. But I swear I’ll spend the rest of my life making it right. I’ll be better. I’ll be the man you deserve. The father she deserves. Please… forgive me.”
His words trembled in the quiet room, more powerful than a shout.
I stared at him, my throat tight. A thousand memories crashed into me his laughter, his betrayal, the nights I cried until my heart felt hollow.
“You hurt me so much,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “You broke me.”
He closed his eyes, exhaling like a man carrying a lifetime of guilt. “I know,” he said. “And I’ll fix it. I’ll fix everything. I promise.”
Something inside me shattered pain, anger, longing, all twisting into something I couldn’t name.
I rose, swaying, and before I could think, my arms found him.
Damian’s arms wrapped around me, pulling me close, like he’d been holding that breath for years. His body was warm and solid, his heartbeat slamming against my ear. The scent of his cologne faint and familiar made my chest ache.
“I missed you,” I whispered, my fingers clutching the back of his shirt as if letting go would kill me.
His lips brushed my temple. “I missed you too, Isabella,” he breathed. “More than you’ll ever know.”
And for the first time in years, the world felt quiet.
