Chapter 33

Epilogue

Michael,

They think that they can take her away. They think that they can take her from me.

Do they think that I would sit still and allow it? Lola is mine, since the day she was born on this earth.

She belongs only to me, and not even god can claim her. Not even death can take her away from me.

I would follow her to the depth of hell and I would never care who will get hurt in the process.

I have watched her since the day she opened her beautiful eyes. I watched her grow into this amazingly beautiful young woman.

I was about to tell her that she is mine after her eighteenth birthday in a few weeks.

But then this shit happened. Those bastards had taken my Lola away, thinking that I would stay still and watch.

When people look at me and see my smiling, cheerful face, they think of me as weak and naïve.

Unlike my brother, who is evil and ruthless, but they don’t know the truth.

It was me who chose to forsake this life, not because I was afraid of it, or afraid to taint my hands.

No, it was because I would have been good to rule too good if I might add.

That’s why my father and my brother thought that it would be for the best if I chose another path.

They thought that being a doctor would make me more normal and live freely.

But they all have been wrong. I have been watching everything from a distance and waiting.

I have vowed that I will never interfere as long as my family was safe and sound.

But now I need to wake up and act quickly to get my woman back. They stole the only thing that has been keeping me sane.

Lola was my only light through that darkness that lived inside my head and soul.

I knew that I’m sick, and I have been trying to overcome this, but no I won’t stand on the side and watch.

Gabriel had seen it today. I saw it in his eyes too, the recognition of my state.

He had seen my resolve break, but he can’t do anything. He must remember the vow which I have given him a long time ago.

It was the day our parents were killed passed. He asked me to be the calm one. The sound of reason.

Because he will be the beast in my place. That day I promised him that I will respect his decision as long as he respects my request.

I have promised him never to snap or act on my instinct unless my family was in danger.

And I guess because he was so confident in himself, he gave me his word too that if that day comes he will never stop me or stand in my way.

He will let me act as I please. And I will unleash all of this pent-up anger and energy which I have been keeping on a tight leash.

They have taken my Lola away, thinking that I will stand in the corner and watch.

I chuckled loudly when the thought had passed through my head for the millionth time. Fools.

But with whom should I start? The Italians or the cops? Should I burn Queens all to the ground or should I be more subtle?

I don’t care really about it as long as she is out and between my hands.

Something to my right whimpered, making me sneer and walk to it. I loomed above the fucker, who was bleeding and bound.

He kept shaking and mumbling something I couldn’t hear because of the duct tape.

I crouched in front of him and pealed the thing off. The man spoke quickly, and I frowned at him.

When he didn’t stop babbling, I slapped his face harshly, making his head snap to the side.

“Would you please speak more clearly? I don’t understand a word you are saying.”

I said calmly through my soft smile, making the crying man flinch.

He tried to crawl back, but couldn’t move. Both of his knees were broken and his arms were twisted at odd angles.

But he didn’t feel any pain. Because before doing that I have pumped his body full of morphine.

“I did what they just told me. I swear I had no idea about anything. And I thought that they were thieves or something after hearing that noise and racket, so I called the cops.”

I sucked my teeth and sighed. He was still lying, even though I know the truth.

I have checked his connections and bank account. The fucker had one million transferred to his account this morning.

I paced the small house of his while looking around. It was bare and filthy, which wasn’t surprising.

The man was drowning in debt, and he needed help. Maybe that’s why he had accepted to do that phone call.

I hit an empty beer can, and I kicked it away, disgusted. This place was a shit hole.

I would be giving that miserable man a favor by killing him. He lives like a pig.

“I just want to know who came to talk to you. Was it Alessio or someone else?”

I asked the man without turning around. I already know the answer, even if he kept lying.

“I don’t really know. He was very tall and wore an expensive-looking suit. He told me about the theft in the neighborhood and left.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose and closed my eyes in annoyance. He still didn’t want to confess, but that’s ok.

I kneeled in front of the man and opened my bag, searching for the needle that was full of something that will bring his body to life again, my very own concussion.

The man flinched a little as I injected him, but I cut his jugular veins before the morphine wore off.

The man’s eyes bulged when I did it and I stood up, taking off my gloves and collecting my things.

I gave him a wide grin, then left his filthy house as my mood brightened a little.

I will get my Lola out of that mess, then I will come after you, Alessio.

It won’t be Gabriel that you will face this time, it will be me. I will show the world that I’m the real monster of the family.

I will turn the black cross, the family symbol into red because blood will flow in the streets of Queens as long as my woman is locked away.
