Chapter 353
Chapter 353
"However he got it, as long as it can help you now, that's what matters."
Caroline had already looked through it. The files contained hotel surveillance footage. According to the timestamps on the surveillance, that girl's accusations didn't hold up at all.
After Stanley drunkenly entered the room, it wasn't until early the next morning that the girl even came through the door.
And after she entered, Stanley came out in less than half an hour.
In such a short time, he couldn't have done anything to her.
Her claim that Stanley had taken advantage of her all night—none of it held water.
As long as Stanley got this evidence, he could turn public opinion around.
"Clearly he's a victim in this too. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to give him this. You can take it back and help the Powell family resolve their crisis." Caroline had been swamped with work lately. With year-end approaching, as the founder of a startup, she'd encountered many issues she'd never had to deal with before. She was overwhelmed.
Even if she wanted to help Becky, she couldn't spare much time.
"Thank you, Caroline." Becky pulled Caroline into a big hug.
She'd never been away from home this long before. Now that she knew it had all been a misunderstanding—that she'd misjudged her family without investigating properly and then ran away for so long—she felt terrible. She couldn't wait to rush back with this evidence and help her family.
"You don't need to thank me. Your problems are my problems."
Becky couldn't wait. She grabbed the folder and hurried off.
Caroline walked her to the door. Turning back, she saw Arthur standing in his doorway. She nodded at him. "Thanks for this."
Whatever Arthur's motives, he'd genuinely helped her. That much she couldn't deny.
Arthur's face broke into a smile. "She's your best friend. When something happened to her family, I figured you'd be worried. It just happened to be a Windsor Group hotel. As president, I have that kind of access. I'm glad I could help."
So that's how it was. No wonder Arthur had gotten the evidence so quickly. Anyone else probably would've been out of luck.
Caroline nodded. "Once she's resolved this, I'll talk to her. We can't let you help for nothing."
Arthur didn't refuse.
He didn't need Becky's gratitude—he just wanted her to stop interfering while he pursued Caroline.
Blake was also receiving Arthur's special attention.
There was still a month until New Year's, but any decent endorsements or appearances had been given to others by the company.
As a Best Actor, he had virtually zero resources lined up. That simply wasn't normal.
Plenty of fans felt Blake was being treated unfairly and raised hell under the company's official website and all their contact channels.
Unable to handle it anymore, the company came up with a solution.
They called Blake back to work.
But what they gave him weren't the quality projects he used to get—instead, they were gigs that were looked down on in the industry, the kind that any celebrity with even a little clout would refuse.
Blake naturally wasn't willing, but the company executives didn't care about his opinion. They shoved the contract at him.
"According to our agreement, you're required to accept all work the company arranges for you."
"Are you planning to breach the contract now that you're so unwilling?"
"Can you even afford the penalty?"
The company representative's face was full of mockery. His ugly smirk made Blake sick.
Blake slowly clenched his fists. "I only have one year left on my contract with the company. I've always cooperated before and made the company plenty of profit."
"I don't want to take this variety show. You can't force me."
"Even if there is a penalty, it shouldn't be calculated according to the amount in the contract."
He'd signed a five-year contract with the company. Four years had passed—only one remained. The company's behavior had thoroughly disgusted him. He absolutely wouldn't renew with them.
The company executives knew they'd already burned bridges with Blake. Now they were completely shameless, not caring about his feelings at all.
Hearing this, the man smiled. "Our contract is crystal clear in black and white. There's no clause about reducing the penalty proportionally over time."
"If you have a problem with the contract, feel free to sue. Our legal department is ready anytime."
"Mr. Hamilton, you're a respectable person. You wouldn't want to make this too ugly, would you?"
The man looked at Blake with a half-smile.
They'd used this method on countless minor celebrities before. They were well-practiced.
Blake might be a Best Actor, but he was still naive in these matters!
Blake gripped the contract and left the company without a word. Behind him, he could still hear the man's arrogant laughter. "Remember—this variety show starts filming in a week! If you don't show up, that's a breach. The company has the right to pursue the penalty."
Blake went to check his savings.
Actually, his personal expenses weren't high. Most of his earnings over the years had gone to donations for orphans and impoverished children.
What remained, while a fortune to ordinary people, still wasn't enough to cover the company's penalty fee.
He didn't want to put Caroline in a difficult position, so he didn't plan to ask her for money.
But if the company kept tormenting him like this, he didn't think he could hold out much longer.
Though someone had been fanning the flames behind the scenes regarding the Powell family situation, in the face of decisive evidence, that girl couldn't stir up any real trouble.
When Becky returned with the evidence while the Powell family was at their wits' end, not only did she reconcile with them, she became a hero to the family.
But unlike before, this time she proactively proposed joining the company for training.
She didn't want to coast through life anymore. She wanted to take control of her own destiny—just like Caroline.
She'd expected that when she made such an outrageous request, her family would definitely oppose it.
Becky had been ready to argue with them, negotiate, haggle.
But before the Powell parents could respond, Stanley spoke first.
"You were always the Powell family's only heir. These things should be yours."
"If you want to join the company, I'll support you fully."
Looking at Stanley's serious expression across from her, Becky felt guilty. "But I don't have any experience in this area... Can I really do it?"
More than lacking experience—she hadn't even studied finance.
In school, she'd insisted doctors saving lives was so cool, that she absolutely had to be a doctor. But studying medicine was way too hard. If the Powell family hadn't pulled strings, she probably wouldn't even have graduated.
Caroline had been her classmate and roommate in the same major, but Caroline was a top student in the department. All the professors praised her.
Now that Caroline had started her own business, she'd naturally chosen the pharmaceutical industry she was familiar with.
But Becky wanting to inherit the family business—she was completely in the dark.
She didn't understand any of it.
