Chapter 345

Arthur's name had already been called earlier, and he had long since returned to the VIP seating area below the stage.

Hearing the host's voice, he looked up and saw Caroline on stage, dazzling under the spotlight.

She wore a dark green gown that made her look even more radiant. When her eyes swept across the room, she was like a captivating enchantress who could steal one's soul.

But she didn't linger anywhere, just let her gaze drift casually across the audience as she walked, finally stopping at the center of the stage.

The big screen behind her listed Caroline's contributions one by one, even displaying her academic record from school. That long string of achievements was enough to silence any doubts.

She had never been just an ordinary housewife, but a top student with an impressive background.

She could throw herself into love without hesitation, but that didn't mean it was all she could do.

After leaving that household, her sky wouldn't fall—it would only give her wings to fly to greater heights.

Watching Caroline on stage confidently sharing her experiences, handling the host's questions with ease, and radiating brilliance all over.

Arthur had a strong feeling in his heart that she seemed born to stand under the spotlight, to be looked up to.

Those years she spent as a housewife in his home were perhaps the most insignificant and dimmest part of her life.

How ridiculous that he once thought she was a housewife who knew nothing, refusing even her desire to enter the workplace, coldly watching her struggle, waiting for her to give up.

All along, the one who needed to wake up wasn't Caroline, but himself. Her excellence never needed to be proven to anyone.

She just needed to stand there, and she would shine.

Whether as a mother, a wife, or a boss, she did everything well.

The Q&A session on stage had ended, and Caroline should have been returning to the VIP seats, but just then, someone in the audience suddenly stood up with a question. "If you're so excellent, why did you get divorced? Why did your ex-husband abandon you?"

This wasn't part of the agreed-upon Q&A. Even the host's face showed a hint of tension.

Caroline looked over.

The person asking was a reporter from a small media outlet, trying to grab a big story through this sensational approach.

At that moment, countless cameras were already pointed at Caroline, expecting her to show embarrassment and helplessness, ready to record it all, add some personal speculation, and release it for public entertainment, making it a tool to attract traffic.

But no, she didn't give them the reaction they expected. Caroline just smiled slightly, "It's a new century now. When a couple's feelings aren't compatible and they divorce, that should be allowed by law, right?"

"I just married him, I didn't sell my entire life to him. I think I have the right to choose my own life." She straightened her back, her words firm and clear.

"So are you love-brained? With such high qualifications, instead of thinking about giving back to society sooner, you got married and had children, wasting so many years. If you had developed those drugs earlier, couldn't you have saved more people? Doesn't this prove you're selfish, only thinking about yourself?" The reporter, not getting the answer he wanted, still wouldn't give up and threw out an even sharper question.

Camera flashes flickered, and Caroline frowned.

She wasn't stupid. When this reporter first asked a question, she had already sensed his hostility toward her. She just hadn't expected him to be so shameless as to ask again.

Before she could speak this time, Arthur had already stood up, "The selfish one is me."

As soon as he spoke, everyone's eyes turned to him.

Arthur was used to being watched by so many people.

He spoke in a deep voice, "I knew my wife was a top student with great talent, but I selfishly didn't want her to give too much attention and focus to others, so I kept her at home."

"Regrettably, I held her back for seven years, but during those seven years, it didn't seem to stop others from researching these drugs, did it?"

"If, as you say, these drugs are so simple to develop, why are you just an intern reporter now, and not a senior researcher?"

Arthur's cold gaze fixed on that reporter, and laughter erupted around them.

The reporter's face turned red, "I didn't study that!"

"I remember today is an awards dinner for outstanding entrepreneurs. Only reporters from major media outlets can enter, not intern reporters. With your qualifications, you'd at most be serving tea and water outside. So may I ask, through what channels did you get in?" Arthur stared at him, throwing out another question.

Now the reporter panicked. "I'm not, I..."

"Who let you in?" Arthur read out the media name on his badge, making it especially clear in front of everyone. "I don't care how you got in, but your behavior today has violated the agreement."

"And your slander against my wife—when you get back today, you can notify your company's boss. I'll have my legal team send the lawsuit documents to your company's email within two hours."

"You can pick a good day to fight this lawsuit with me."

When Arthur finished speaking, the reporter was almost in tears, his eyes uncontrollably glancing toward a certain direction.

Arthur naturally noticed this action too, but he didn't pursue it, just sat back down.

Arthur's words and actions had already intimidated others who were ready to make trouble. No one dared say anything more to Caroline, and they all scattered quickly.

Caroline was also able to leave the stage smoothly.

Her seat happened to be assigned next to Arthur. She hesitated, but still sat down beside him and nodded, "Thanks for just now."

The other person's behavior was disgusting. Although she had ways to handle it, none were as intimidating as Arthur's approach.

"Protecting you is what I should do." Arthur looked at her deeply. Caroline's heart felt like something had burned it. She turned her head away without speaking.

She had successfully left the stage, and the ceremony continued.

One person after another, familiar or unfamiliar, went on stage to receive this honor.

After all ten people had their turn, there would be a mystery guest to present the awards to everyone.

Caroline seemed a bit distracted because of this incident and sat next to Arthur waiting for the final award ceremony.

During this time, quite a few people came over trying to chat with her. Caroline wasn't in the mood and didn't really want to interact with them.

Arthur saw what she was thinking and directly blocked them for her.

"She's not available right now."
