Chapter 179 I have a wife
Chapter 179 I have a wife
The sudden sweet aroma that drifted into Maverick’s nose made a pang of nostalgia hit him.
Even though it had been years, he could still recall clearly—this was Valencia’s meal. Valencia prepared a meal for him?
At that realization, Maverick’s eyes flew wide open, and at that moment, he saw Valencia pointing at the cart of food next to her.
Valencia smiled and articulated just like he would have said, “Breakfast for a king. Freshen up and eat.”
Maverick had always been awake long before she was, so Valencia had made sure to wake up early before he beat her to it and prepared a meal for her and the children.
Not to mention that Maverick would definitely refuse to let her prepare the meal.
Since he knew about her pregnancy, Maverick prevented Valencia from stepping into the kitchen or doing anything that would stress her out.
And because last night was filled with fun, and all the men crashed into the countryside mansion where they were spending their vacation—drunk and tired—it made it possible for her.
“Hangover drink.” Valencia picked up a cup of hangover drink and handed it toward Maverick.
Maverick’s eyes softened, and his heart melted. Waking up like this was really sweet. Having a wife who loves you is truly a blessing.
Maverick straightened his back and collected the hangover drink. It was warm, and it spread warmth through his body. Even though it was medicine, it felt like the most delicious drink he had ever had.
“Thank you, wife.” Maverick placed a kiss on her lips and lovingly tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Maverick stood up and carefully picked her up before placing her on the chair to sit. “Are you tired?” He gently began to massage her shoulder and hand as if to release the tension and stress.
“Thank you, Valencia, but you should stay out of the kitchen once you put out this little darling,” Maverick implied, talking about Valencia’s pregnancy.
Valencia nodded her head and smiled sweetly, her eyes squinting in enjoyment at Maverick’s actions. “I will listen to you…”
The door was suddenly kicked open, interjecting Valencia’s words.
The quadruplets immediately stood at the door and stared at their parents with puppy eyes. “We want to eat with Mom and Dad.”
While Valencia had prepared the quadruplets’ meal also, she had simply arranged it in the dining room so they could eat. But she didn’t expect that what they wanted was to eat with their parents.
Valencia and Maverick exchanged glances and smiled.
Seeing their parents smile, the quadruplets understood that they had been given permission, so they stepped into the room with a maid helping them push the cart that contained their food.
As soon as the maid arranged the meal, she bowed to them and left the room, shutting the door behind her.
Maverick stood up to freshen himself up before joining the family.
The family ate a beautiful breakfast while putting food onto each other’s plates. It was such a sweet moment.
When they were done, a maid stepped forward and packed the plates while the family sat in front of the TV to watch a brilliant cartoon that interested the quadruplets.
Valencia suddenly turned to Maverick and articulated, “I want to arrange that Raquel headquarters be transferred to…”
Even without her completing her words, Maverick already understood what she meant. He played with a stray strand of her hair and chimed, “You shouldn’t stress yourself. Leave all the workload to me.”
“En.” Valencia smiled sweetly and placed her head on his shoulder while wrapping her hand around his waist. Having a husband that spoils you is truly good luck.
Knock. Knock.
The sudden knocking at the door attracted their attention, and Valencia told the person to come in.
Lessie gently twisted the doorknob and opened the door. Upon seeing the family scene, she took a step back and helplessly pronounced, “I hope I’m not intruding.”
Valencia shook her head, signifying no.
Lessie exhaled in relief and expressed, “Valencia, I need your help.”
Valencia placed a kiss on her hubby’s and the quadruplets’ cheeks before going over to Lessie so they could talk.
They both stepped out of the room and shut the door behind them. Valencia’s eyes roamed Lessie from head to toe in concern. “Is anything wrong?”
Lessie’s face reddened, and she stared at her feet while whispering in a tiny voice, “I think I have a crush on someone, and he’ll be in the country. I…”
Before Lessie could complete her words, Valencia’s jaw fell wide open. More importantly, she wanted to know every detail. “You are in love. Who? Who’s the person?”
Lessie’s face turned beetroot red, and she shyly whispered, “I’ll tell you later. We are going to meet at dinner. Can you come with me to shop? I’m afraid that I’ll be too nervous to pick the right dress.”
Valencia didn’t hesitate before nodding her head. “Yes.” She was happy that Lessie finally found someone to attract her attention.
Her only worry was Corbyn Cirillo. However, even the Cirillo family had already accepted the fate that Corbyn might end up dying single. After all, the only woman who had ever attracted his attention was Valencia.
Since Aviva had already gotten together with Warrick, their Cirillo family still had a chance. They would soon carry a grandchild. That was definite, and that was enough.
The car rolled to a stop at the city’s expensive brand store, famous for its variety and luxury styles.
Lessie held Valencia’s hand, and they stepped in.
The minute they entered, a beautiful and flowy red dress caught Lessie’s eyes. Lessie’s eyes lit up, and she pointed at the clothes. She eagerly exclaimed, “Valencia, this will look so good on you. You have to buy it.”
Valencia chortled in bewilderment and shook her head. “What are you saying? You should buy it instead.”
Lessie was the one they came for. Lessie was the one who wanted to impress her crush. Why did Lessie want to buy a dress for her instead?
“It will really look good on you.” Lessie turned to one of the waitresses and expressed, “Add this to my… wow.”
Before Lessie could complete her words, a beautiful black dress caught Lessie’s eyes, and she exclaimed in greed, “Valencia, don’t you think this will look good on you? You have to add this also.”
Valencia massaged her forehead and grabbed Lessie by the shoulder, snapping her awake from her excitement. “Be honest, you don’t have any date to go.”
A sheepish smile appeared on Lessie’s face, and she blushed when she realized that she had been caught. “How did you know?”
Valencia pinched Lessie’s cheeks. While she had successfully tricked her into the mall, her actions soon betrayed her.
Lessie hurriedly grabbed Valencia’s arms and pleaded while making a cute face, “Valencia, are you annoyed at me? It’s just that I missed you, and we haven’t spent time with each other, so I devised that trick to bring you out.”
Valencia chuckled and pulled Lessie’s cheeks in amusement. “Alright, then we shall play today.”
Lessie’s eyes lit up, and she beamed, “I have a lot of list compilations. Today we shall go to the spa, have a makeover, do our hair, and slay, okay?”
Valencia helplessly nodded and said in acquiescence, “Yes.”
“Great!”
By the time the duo returned home, it was past four in the afternoon.
Currently, Valencia was in a beautiful and flowy off-shoulder red dress that flaunted her pale skin and highlighted her curves, and her hair was curled wavy, highlighting her beautiful face shape.
This was all Lessie’s handiwork. After all this beautiful makeover, Lessie believed that if Valencia showed it to Maverick, he would definitely be impressed and fall in love with her all over again. So she couldn’t waste the day’s handiwork.
Valencia carefully walked toward the mansion in her high heels, her hand holding her purse tight, her heart thrumming slightly, and her whole being filled with nervousness. Once Maverick saw this, what would his reaction be?
Valencia pushed the door open, and her eyes widened when she saw Maverick in a suit kneeling in front of her while holding a box of rings.
“Valencia, from the moment our paths crossed, my life changed. Even when you left, it was evident how much space your absence left, yet I foolishly refused to admit it.
Although I was childish to kidnap you and claimed that it was all because I wanted revenge, the truth was I had long fallen for you.
And when you disappeared from the mansion, I realized how much you meant to me. I messed up badly to attract attention, but that made me learn what you mean to me and how to cherish you.
Valencia, you are my greatest blessing, my light, and my strength.
Valencia, you are so beautiful and perfect, more than I could ever deserve. Will you say yes and make me the happiest man alive? Will you marry me and let me spend the rest of my lifetime with you? Will you let me prove how much I love you for the rest of my life?” Maverick recited in a breath as if he was afraid the woman would leave if he even paused a bit.
Valencia froze, and at that moment she realized something. All Lessie was doing was preparing her for this moment. It wasn’t for a get-together.
Since when had they known? Since when had they been preparing this? Even the quadruplets hid it from her. She was the only clueless one. Her family had gotten together to create this beautiful moment for her. She was lucky.
Valencia’s eyes pooled with tears, and her lips parted. It was as if her breath had been cut short, making her breathless.
The more she stayed silent, the faster Maverick’s heart pounded, and the more nervous he became.
“Mommy, say yes.”
“Valencia, quickly say yes, or someone's gonna faint.”
Valencia snapped out of her reverie and let the tears slip past her eyes, her lips forming in a smile.
She whispered in a soft voice, so fragile it was as if everything would shatter and she’d realize this was all an illusion. “Yes. Yes. Yes. I’ll marry you, Rick.”
Maverick stood up and slipped the ring on Valencia's finger, and their lips clashed in an intense kiss. “Thank you.”
The quadruplets instantly joined them and hugged them tightly.
Suddenly, Lessie popped a champagne and announced, “Congratulations! When is the wedding?”
Immediately, questions were thrown at the couple amidst congratulations.
“Who will be the best man?
What about the bride of honor?
The MC…”
Maverick wrapped his hands around Valencia’s waist and cheerfully responded, “Today is Tuesday. The wedding will be held on Saturday. I can’t wait to marry my wife.”
Valencia nodded her head and chimed in, “Yes. We want a silent wedding. Just being among our friends and family is enough.”
A cruel and devilish smile appeared on Maverick’s face, and he continued, “Corbyn is the single man among all of us. He will be the best man.”
Corbyn’s face turned dark and grim, and he gave Maverick a middle finger. “Fuck you.”
“Eww. I am straight. I have a wife,” Maverick retorted happily.
Lessie chimed in, “Then, I’ll be the bridesmaid.”
“What are the things we will need?
I’ll be in charge of the event planning.
I’ll be in charge of the meal.
Valencia and the girls will select the perfect clothes.”
