Chapter 92

Zoey hit Dico hard, her eyes looking like she wanted to tear him apart. At a time like this, he wasn't even on her side! "Are you happy? Do you realize that Clair didn't marry Charlotte? He married a vain, trashy woman..."

Unable to bear anyone insulting me, Clair cut Zoey off.

"My wife's name is Susan, not some trashy woman. Respect is mutual. Please watch your language, or you'll just show how poorly raised you are."

Zoey's face went pale.

"Hey, this girl looks familiar." Dico leaned over to look at the marriage certificate. "I remember now - she's the girl who took your grandfather to the hospital before. She's a really kind, good person."

He nodded with a smile. "Not bad, Clair. Good taste."

Zoey was about to die of anger, especially with her husband constantly praising me.

"Anyway, I will never accept this marriage. Clair, you take her right now and get a divorce. No matter what, you must divorce!"

Dico couldn't help but remind her, "The Marriage License Bureau has a rule - if you get married today, you can't divorce the same day."

Zoey shot him a fierce look.

Clair said coldly, "Mom, you just said marriage isn't a game, so I absolutely won't divorce Susan easily."

Dico nodded along. "When you marry someone, you should marry someone you like."

Zoey was really about to cough up blood from anger.

"Clair, Susan said herself she's just playing around with you. She's after your money. If you had no money, watch how fast she'd run!"

Clair's lips curved slightly. "A wife spending her husband's money is perfectly natural. The more she spends, the more it proves my capability. I came back today to tell you I'm married and Susan is my wife. But from the looks of things, I won't be bringing her home for now. When you're ready to accept her, then I'll bring her back."

Zoey could barely stand. Dico had to support her.

Her eyes reddened, and her voice choked up. "Clair, what did I do wrong? The one I told you not to marry. You just had to marry her. Why!"

"Mom, from today on, Susan is my legal wife. What you should and shouldn't do. I hope you know what's right." After deliberately warning her, Clair turned and left.

Watching Clair's retreating figure, Zoey collapsed onto the sofa.

Dico poured some water. "Drink this and calm down. What's there to be angry about? Clair getting married is a good thing - we can have a grandchild sooner."

Zoey couldn't take it anymore. "Dico, are you deliberately going against me today? Do you know who he married? How am I supposed to explain this to Sandy?"

Dico patted Zoey's back soothingly. "I've met that girl. She's really nice."

He advised earnestly, "Zoey, your problem is that you always want to control everything, make everyone listen to you. But Clair isn't a child anymore - you can't control him. As for the family engagement, you don't need to explain anything."

"Back then, my dad and Sandy's dad arranged an engagement between our families. Originally, it was for me to marry Sandy, but I didn't marry her - I married you instead, didn't I?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the room fell terribly silent.

Dico groaned inwardly, 'I'm done for. Kept it secret for thirty years, and I still let it slip.'

Zoey's expression darkened.

She slowly turned to Dico. "What did you just say? You were supposed to marry Sandy?"

This was the first time she'd heard about this.

She never knew Dico and Sandy had a history.

So all her efforts to set up her son with Sandy's daughter - wasn't that a joke?

Since he'd already said it, Dico decided to tell everything. "Weren't the families engaged? Sandy was the eldest daughter, and I was the eldest son, so naturally, they tried to match us up. But Sandy had someone she liked."

"If she had liked you, would you two have gotten married back then?" Zoey stared hard at Dico. "Do you like Sandy?"

Women are especially sensitive about these things. She needed to know.

Dico's eyes shifted. He felt a bit guilty. "It was all arranged by the elders. Besides, we didn't get married in the end, did we? It's been decades. My point is, Clair doesn't have to marry Charlotte. There are so many younger family members - let one of them marry her and fulfill the promise."

"No way!" Zoey immediately objected. "If any of them marries Charlotte, won't they have leverage to compete with our son?"

"Then what do you want? They already have their marriage certificate. Are you really going to fight with Clair?" Dico couldn't help asking, "Actually, what exactly did you do to Winona back then? Why did she leave?"

At the mention of Winona, Zoey fell silent.

Her memory was pulled back to a few years ago.

Back then, to drive Winona away, she'd spent considerable effort, even hiring people to assault Winona.

She'd always thought she'd been secretive enough, but she never expected Clair to find out.

Because of this, their mother-son relationship had become so strained.

Zoey was also well aware that Clair had rushed to get the marriage certificate with me because he was afraid she'd use the same tactics on me that she'd used on Winona.

She didn't want to talk about Winona. "Anyway, I will never accept Susan. I'll find a way to make them divorce."

Dico didn't want to persuade her anymore. "When Clair really cuts ties with you, don't regret it."

Blue Sky Corporation.

I returned to the company and immediately followed Sandy to the conference room, where a group discussed the West River Project.

The project had been successfully secured. For the follow-up work, Sandy put me in full charge, even publicly praised me, and gave me a lot of real authority.

Being entrusted with such responsibility, I was extremely excited inside.

After the meeting ended, Sandy called me to her office. She smiled warmly. "Susan, you did very well just now. The proposal was also written with great care. I'm confident putting you in charge of this project."

I nodded firmly. "Ms. Sandy, I absolutely won't let you down."

"I believe you." Sandy sighed. "About yesterday - I want to apologize to you again. Charlotte really doesn't have a bad heart; she's just impulsive. I'm sure she regrets it now."

Charlotte regrets it? I didn't think so.

But since Sandy said so, I could only be gracious and smile. "Ms. Sandy, actually I didn't take it to heart, and I was partly at fault too."

Sandy breathed a sigh of relief.

Just then, the secretary rushed in. "Ms. Sandy, there's trouble. An employee is about to jump from the rooftop. She printed a bunch of flyers and scattered them from up there."

She paused. "The flyers say Ms. Sandy is protecting Miss Charlotte and enabling wrongdoing. A crowd has gathered downstairs, and the fire department and police have arrived."
