Chapter 154

“Yes! I love it.”

Ever since purchasing the birthing ball Lynn even used it to sit on when she was in the living room. Since she was on what Charlene referred to as the home stretch of her pregnancy, standing up from the sofa had grown increasingly difficult. Lynn was hoping to make it to forty weeks. Already at thirty-three weeks, she wasn’t sure if that plan would go as smoothly as she hoped. For a couple days, she’d experienced some severe Braxton Hicks. After a bit of bed rest, the pains had ceased, and she was continuing to take it easy. She wasn’t on full bed rest; however, she also did not venture too far out of the house.

At first, Lynn was cautious about maintaining adequate balance on the oversized rubber ball. Calista thought it was a toy. She and Morgan fought over the birthing ball, pushing each other off it for nearly an hour, much to Lynn’s amusement. It was only when Alexis caught what they were doing that the behavior was put to an end. When it came to being the disciplinary with the children, Lynn continued to leave that up to Alexis, most of the time.

“Alexis has been so amazing,” Lynn tilted her head, smiling lovingly at her wife. “Last night we used the birthing ball and she gave me an incredible back massage. I couldn’t believe how much it helped with the back pain.”

“See, I told you that you’d like that ball.” Charlene patted Lynn’s leg and smiled. “I assure you when you go into labor it will come in handy.” Charlene stood, glancing over to Alexis. “I want you to be sure she continues to receive enough protein.”

“Oh trust me; she’s consuming more than enough protein. I’ve been feeding her a protein shake with breakfast every single morning. She complains, but I make her drink it anyways.” Alexis looked at Lynn with a smug grin.

“She’s making me eat all kinds of nasty food.” Lynn’s attempt at keeping her voice serious faltered when Alexis tickled her side. She giggled as she leaned against Alexis. “Seriously though the protein shakes aren’t that horrible. I actually love the strawberry banana ones.”

“I’ve been making her peanut butter sandwiches every day too.”

“Good, good,” Charlene said with a satisfied nod. “I’ve already got the birthing kit ready to go. I want you to call my cell phone immediately if you even think you could be going into labor. I’m going to talk with Doctor Rollins this week so we can formulate the backup plan in case we need one.”

“Okay,” Lynn released a slow breath. “Thanks for everything, Charlene.” Lynn carefully leaned forward, grasping Charlene’s hand.

“I’ll be right back.” Alexis quickly kissed Lynn before hopping off the bed, following Charlene out the bedroom door.

Lynn closed her eyes as she rubbed both hands over her stomach. “Your mommy is the greatest, little ones. I can’t wait for you to meet her. Oh I can’t wait to meet you too!” She wiggled around on the bed, moaning when she desperately tried to get comfortable. “I love you, my little angels.” Lynn sighed when she felt one of the babies move. Lately their movements had considerably slowed. Charlene already assured her that it was due to the fact the babies were running out of room to move freely. “Just hang in there for a few more weeks.”

“Hey Daddy,” Lynn smiled when she looked up from the bed with heavy eyelids. For the most part, she’d spent the entire day sleeping while Alexis and the girls went out grocery shopping. Exhaustion claimed her the moment Alexis left, despite the fact her aching body was tired of lying around in bed so much. With a yawn, she tilted her head when William sat down on the corner of the bed

“I come bearing a gift.” He reached down into the bag he held. Lynn gasped when William pulled out a strawberry iced doughnut with an abundance of rainbow sprinkles covering the top. “I had to run out and buy another gallon of paint. I passed right by that new doughnut place on my way. Just don’t tell Alexis or she will skin me.”

“Oh my gosh,” Lynn squealed. “Thank you!” She grunted when she tried to raise her body, finally managing to sit up with William’s assistance. “We’ll keep it a secret from my wife,” she giggled as she snatched the delicacy. “So good,” she mumbled between bites. Lynn patted the edge of the bed with a grin. “How’s the room coming along?”

“I think you’re going to love it. I have most of the painting complete, with the exception of the door. Do you want to see?”

Lynn devoured the last crumb of doughnut and nodded. “I’d love to. I desperately need to get out of this bed for a while before I become a permanent fixture.” She winced when her body protested the second she tried to move. One of the babies shifted, pressing firmly against her bladder. With a bit of encouragement she was able to dangle her legs from the edge of the bed and place her feet on the floor.
