Chapter 14

I exited the car and walked up to the door, it was wide open, music blasting. I looked around and noticed some people were lingering around as they walked on the property, two ladies were asleep on the swing, one head on the other shoulder the other had her head hanging to the side. “I do not miss college anymore,” I mumbled under my breath before entering the house.

I looked around and saw a few people from high school, I saw an old teammate and walked over to him right after taking a cup filled with what I assumed would be alcohol.

“Is that the Roman Sterling?” Justin asked, a surprised look on his face as he came closer to me. The last I saw him was at our graduation.

“The one and only,” I smiled as we bumped fists. “How have you been?” I asked, taking a step back. The only thing that changed was his hair was now shorter and he’s finally able to grow a full beard.

“Better than ever man, you? Any chance you brought our future Luna?” He asked, raising his dark brow at me making me sigh.

“Haven’t even found her yet. What about you? QB sure must’ve found his mate right,” I answered and asked the same question. Besides me, he sure was one of the other golden boys.

“I sure did, it’s Erin and we’re expecting our first pup,” Justin answered with a proud, visible smile on his lips.

“Wait, really?” I was surprised. I hadn’t seen Erin in years, but I do remember her being the opposite of what he described his dream girl would be.

“Yeah man, we really should’ve kept in touch,” He sighed, making me realize I did kind of ditch, my old mates.

“Congrats man,” I was happy for him. “And I think we should yeah,” I added.

“Mm-hmm,” He hummed and looked around.

“Out of curiosity, what was your reaction when you found out she was your mate?” I wondered.

“Because she was your typical geek and not my type?” He asked, awkwardly scratching the back of his head.

“Your words, not mine,” I laughed.

“I was surprised and also I was an idiot back then,” He replied, laughing. “The goddess blessed me with her honestly, we just clicked you know,” He explained, and I just nodded.

“That’s great man, I’m happy for you,” I responded.

“Thanks, Roman.”

“How’s your twin sister doing?” I wondered; Justine was also fun to be around. Especially if you had struggles with Chemistry.

“Oh she’s good, man, her mate ended up being a beta from another pack, so she moved there,” He explained, putting down his cup.

“I got it babe, ready to—” Erin said as she walked over to us. “Oh, hey, Roman,” she greeted kindly.

“Erin, hey. I believe congratulations are in order?” I wished her; her bump sure was visible.

“Oh yeah, thank you,” She smiled, rubbing her stomach, looking down at it.

“Well, I shouldn’t hold you two any longer. Have a good night,” I took a step back so they could walk.

“We will and you too man,” He wished me, taking his mate’s hand in his and led the way out.

I smiled, watching those two walk away. Funny how we were the same age, and our lives were so different. The last time I met an old buddy I found out he was still doing school; another was training to take over the beta duty from his father. I let out a sigh and got myself another cup of whatever spiked punch it was.

“Hey Roman,” I heard a woman say, I turned around and saw it was Skylar.

“Skylar? How have you been?” I asked. It had been years since we’ve seen each other and the last time we met didn’t exactly go as planned.

“I’m good, you?” She asked. She too remained the same since I last saw her.

“I’m doing fine… Have you met your mate already?” I asked, raising a brow at her.

“I wish,” She pouted and handed me a drink, “Here.”

“Thanks,” I smiled, looking down at it. Third drink and it hasn’t even been an hour.

“So what do you do now?” I wondered. I was unsure what the last thing she did was.

“Just finished business school but I think I might take over my mother’s salon,” She explained, sipping her drink slowly as she looked at me.

“That’s nice, good luck with that,” I mumbled.

“I’ll return to you in a moment,” She patted my shoulder and walked away.

“I guess I’ll be waiting then,” I frowned.

Now that I’m alone again I couldn’t stop thinking of Tallulah. I never expected her to lose the bet, I thought I’d be the one who couldn’t handle it further but instead, she beat me to it first. I should be happy and rub it in her face that I won, yet I couldn’t. I couldn’t do that because I knew the feelings she had for me were mutual, it wasn’t just my wolf that was over the moon for her but also me. I loved her when we weren’t fighting. Even when we were fighting I still loved her, her smile, her passion, and her courage. I loved how strong she was and never backed down no matter what. We actually made a great team; I could see why the Moon Goddess paired the two of us together. We were destined to be together, and I was a fool to let my confusion drive me away from it. I couldn’t wait to get home and confess my feelings to her. I took the last sip of my drink and placed the cup on the counter. I couldn’t go today; I was too drunk. If I could, I would go wherever Tallulah was and tell her just how much I love her and wanted to be her mate. I couldn’t wait to see her again and make it up to her…

I felt the warmth of the sun spreading on my skin, I let out a soft groan and rolled onto my side. I could feel the warmth of someone else close by. I don’t even remember going to bed. I jumped awake, a headache emerging. I looked down at the blanket and saw I was naked with no memories from last night at all. I looked over to my right and saw another blonde laying down next to me, she was naked too. I flipped her hair out of her face, hoping it wasn’t who I thought it was.

“Skylar?”
