Chapter 37: Chapter 37.
Adrian's POV.
"Please, remove him from here immediately if you don't want me passing out right now," those words kept echoing in my head as I leaned against the wall in the hallway.
As much as I was furious, the words seemed to hook me, forcing me to think. What had I done?
The doctor stepped out, and walked to me. "Mr Blackwood," she began, and I brought my eyes to look at her.
"Shall we have a walk?" She offered but unfortunately I was in no mood for that.
"No, thank you," I turned down her offer. "If you have anything to say to me, you can say it here, and now," I offered instead.
She gave a calm smile. "I know this doesn't concern me but my patient's life is involved here," she began. "Give your wife some time and space... she'll come around soon," she said.
"And if you haven't apologized yet, you should do so. Sometimes an apology is what it takes to fix the impossible," she added with another smile. Just like that she walked away, leaving me in a puzzle.
Asides Jane, this doctor puzzles me too. Sometimes she acts like she's not from this world.
Congratulations to her if she has a perfect and happy life. Mine was happy and perfect until days ago when Jane suddenly changed.
"And why are you out here and not inside the room?" My Mom's voice jolted me out of my thoughts.
I exhaled heavily. "Your dear daughter-in-law kicked me out."
"You must have done something," she hissed at me and walked into the room with my Dad.
Right. Everyone believes I did something wrong, even when I'm innocent.
Ethan stepped out but hell, I wasn't in the mood for his thrash, so I ignored him but he refused to be ignored.
"Hey," he said crossing the hall, and walking towards me. "You and I aren't on a good terms, and I don't care..."
I scoffed. Did I look like I want to be friends with him? Who the hell is friends with a Judge who's hellbent on taking your place?
"...you should stay away from Jane," he said and my eyes flashed up.
"What did you say?" I asked, my voice laced with controlled annoyance.
"If you do not keep your distance from her, the child you desperately want, you might lose it," he said, and my anger flared.
I grabbed his neck, my eyes darkening. "If anything happens to my child..."
"Blame yourself for it," he cut me off. "Because you'll be the one who'll kill it eventually."
I pressed his neck harder, and he only let out an annoying chuckle.
"You are not worthy to be a father," he said and that was it. He pulled my last straw. My fist connected with his jaw, sending a cut to his lower lip.
He wiped the blood off his lip, smirking. "How sad, people hate to hear the truth."
My fists clenched tightly by my sides, my nails digging deep into my palms.
"If you do not want to go to hell today, then shut the fuck and get out of here," I said with such restraint to not blow up in anger.
He laughed, stepping away from me, returning to the opposite side of the hall he came from.
The door burst open, and my parents stepped out, their eyes mirroring the annoyance in mine.
Seeing my parents out of the room, he stepped back in.
I didn't move an inch from where I stood, my mind was in too much chaos to do anything.
My Mom walked up to me and a stinging sensation cut across my cheek, the sound reverberating in the hall.
"Mom!" I flashed.
"Call my name from that filthy mouth of yours and I will give you another slap!" She yelled.
"Mom, this is a public space!" I reminded her.
"Du hättest vor all dem, was du getan hast, an den öffentlichen Raum denken sollen! (You should have thought about public space before doing everything you have done!)" She yelled back.
She switched to German, good. But at the same time, it means things are about to get bad.
My Dad stepped forward, his face holding no emotions. "Mit sofortiger Wirkung sind Sie von Ihrer Position als CEO der Blackwood Holdings entbunden. (Effective immediately, you are disposed from your position as CEO of the Blackwood holdings.)"
My eyes widened. What?!
"Da ich keine anderen Kinder außer dir habe, wird deine Position an dein Kind weitergegeben, (Since I have no other children asides you, your position would be handed over to your child)" he continued. "Aber bis er das Alter erreicht, wird dein Cousin, Brandon, die Vakanz besetzen. (But until he comes of age, your cousin, Brandon, will be occupying the vacancy)"
I laughed, unable to believe my ears. "What?"
"Ich verstehe, dass das Unternehmen meinem Kind gegeben wird, damit habe ich kein Problem, es wird sowieso irgendwann sein sein. Aber warum soll es an Brandon gehen, wenn ich noch am Leben und gesund bin? (I get that the company would be given to my child, I have no issues with that, it'll eventually be his. But why is it going to Brandon first when I'm still alive and healthy?)" I questioned. I couldn't wrap my head around their crazy decision.
My dad stepped closer, his voice tighter now. "Ein schlechter Ehemann kann kein guter Vater sein und gleichzeitig kann er kein guter Führer sein. (A bad husband cannot be a good father, and at the same time, he cannot be a good leader.)"
The whole picture became clearer now. Everything was connected to Jane. My ears rang, a sharp pain connecting from the back of my head to my spine. I fought to keep my eyes open, and my feet from slipping. No... this cannot be happening.
"Why am I being punished without anyone listening to my side of the story?" I asked, my voice low. I didn't care to speak in German anymore. What was the point anyway?
"Go to hell with your side of the story," my Dad spat at me, and turned to leave with my Mom.
Two steps away from me, my Mom spoke. "And don't think of showing your face ever to me again." Then she walked away with my Dad.
I chuckled, but then it spiraled into laughter. I fell to my knees, my entire being trembling as the one thing I never thought I'd do, threatened to take advantage of my current state.
My eyes pooled with warm tears, the whole world crashing down on my shoulders, until finally they creeped their way down my cheeks, raw and hot.
Everyone I ever knew, everything I've built my whole life...now gone.
