Chapter 55: Web of deceit
Alex came back home to Sophie, his face unhappy, and Sophie was concerned about her husband, and she had to confront him.
"You look worried; what's the matter with you?” Sophie asked.
“I'm okay, just a little bit stressed out; you know I've been working on a project for the Stone Enterprise; I'm just tired,” Alex replied.
“Would you sit down there and just lie to me? Besides, you left here promising you would be back in no time, but you left me and your daughter here, keeping us in suspense, and you came back looking weird only for you to say there's nothing wrong with you,
"Sophie said her voice high.
“I'm sorry if I didn't keep to my promise, but you should try to understand what 's at hand.
I am working on something okay,” Alex said.
“I understand, so I'm not complaining about your stay at the company; I am just trying to understand why you would keep lying to me about what is wrong with you.” Sophie asked.
“Okay, fine, I will tell you what happened, but I don't think it's necessary,” Alex said.
“Unless I'm nothing to you, anything that concerns you, I would also have to take a play on it, so you shouldn't deny it to me,” Sophie said.
"Okay, before, but I would say anything to you. I want to see my daughter first.
I want to see her before anything. So where is she? Because I really have some apologies to make.”
“I think she's already asleep; just admit that you have no reason to keep this from me.
I know how it can be hard for you to make me understand, but still, you have to talk to me about it, okay?” Sophie said.
“Okay, well, I was called by David stating there was a business partner who wants to negotiate a deal with Stone Enterprise.
I had to accept it because David convinced me that he was just taking a part of his career.
Grandmother called, saying she needed my presence for a little chat, which I accepted immediately, and in it, grandfather came in, and I was forced to tell them about the business deal. Immediately, I called the name of the man who we were going to work with.
Grandfather suddenly changed mood and told me I should terminate the deal, and until then I should stop working as the director of the company,” Alex explained.
“That was too harsh of him. But why would he just want to terminate the deal just like that? Did he have any explanation of what happened between the businessman you called, because he should be specific with you?” Sophie said.
“That's the most confusing part of it all; he never talked to me about the reason he was going to terminate the contract with Mr. Tanaka.” Alex was saying something immediately.
Sophie interrupted, surprised.
“Come again, what is his name?” She asked.
“Mr. Tanaka is his name. Do you encounter any problems with that because you obviously sound like my grandfather right now?” Alex said.
“I know I have to be supportive when it comes to anything concerning you, but this time I don't think I have to because if it's the popular Mr. Tanaka, we all know you shouldn't be working with him because he is a fraud,” Sophie said.
“What do you mean?” Alex asked.
“I don't think it's a good idea for you to work with him; you have to terminate the deal like your grandfather said, okay.
Mr. Tanaka, we all know, is a fraud, and he would bring nothing but pain and destruction to the company.
I know you have worked all day to make this work, but you should still understand you can't risk it to get all the favors.
You have all your rivals waiting for your downfall, and you can't let them win,” Sophie said.
“Speaking of rivals, Marcus is into something strange, which I am even more interested in knowing than anything right now.
I saw him at the bar with some gangsters having a conversation together, and I think it's something business because they exchanged so many handshakes together,” Alex said.
“What are you suggesting? Does he have anything to do with this deal?” Sophie asked.
“I'm actually not sure of it, but I would have to look into it.
He is my brother, and I shouldn't let him do anything stupid, I really have to confront him about it,” Alex said.
Immediately his phone buzzed, and it was David.
“I think you have heard the news that I'm now a pending CEO; you called to make it right because you caused it,” Alex said.
“I'm sorry if I was the cause of everything, but I have a lead to what Marcus was doing with the gangsters at the bar,” David said as Alex immediately sat up.
“You never mentioned that David was at the bar with you,” Sophie whispered.
“What about him? What did you find?” Alex asked.
“Well, Mr. Tanaka being a fraud was all planned by Marcus; he used him as the fraud to come and discredit you for all your hard work.
I think he is still even out there doing the worst, which is why you should be fast in any positive action you take, and let's stop him together,” David said.
“Why would he do such a thing? I know he is mean to me, but I didn't expect it to reach this point. Why is he being this wicked?” Alex asked.
“I really don't want to think that is the best question for you to ask at this point.
All you have to do is take action immediately, fight against him, and stop whatever he is doing.
I will inform you when I get his location because I have his GSP on the network,” David said and hung up.
“David is right, whatever your cousin is planning is against you, and you should as well fight against him to make things right,” Sophie said.
The matter caused more conflict to the one Alex was facing; he was left to make both right.
