Chapter 8

Krish endured the pressure and did not divorce me.

But one night, he went to comfort Elsie when she was scared and ended up in a car accident, suffering serious injuries and being hospitalized.

The doctor said he might never stand up again.

Elsie was pale, weeping uncontrollably.

When Krish woke up, he was silent, as if he had lost the desire to live.

He only had someone call for me, saying he agreed to the divorce.

That was great; I was very happy.

He gave me sixty percent of his assets, and I truly appreciated him for that.

After signing the contract and receiving the divorce certificate, I felt like the future was bright.

But Elsie stopped me with tearful eyes and said, "Krish doesn't want to live anymore; please help him. I'll tell you everything. I beg you not to leave him. It's all my fault…"

Through Elsie's narrative, I saw another side of the story.

In college, Elsie was very fond of Krish, but he ignored everyone. She was just like I used to be, a moth to the flame, clinging to him and bothering him.

From the start, they weren't suited for each other, but they got together after Elsie saved Krish from an accidental car crash.

Because of her selflessness, Krish was unharmed.

However, Elsie herself might never be able to have children.

After that, they were together.

Krish was obedient to Elsie, treating her with the utmost tenderness.

However, Elsie liked challenging difficult men.

Even though she might not have children, she didn't want to be entangled with Krish for life.

When Krish lost his temper, she grew disinterested.

Using the excuse of studying abroad, she broke up with him.

But after the breakup, Elsie always felt unsatisfied.

Pursuing someone only brought her physical harm, and she regretted her past choices.

Whenever she felt down, she would have Krish buy her things.

No matter how expensive the item was, if she saw it, she would send Krish the link and have him purchase it.

Krish always complied.

Later on, Elsie began dating a bad boy-someone truly wicked, who eventually ended up in prison.

But unexpectedly, Elsie became pregnant.

On one hand, with her strict upbringing, Elsie didn't dare to reveal that she was having a criminal's child; on the other hand, she might never have children again.

So, she went back to Krish.

Krish agreed to adopt the child and raise him to adulthood.

But Elsie still wasn't satisfied.

Seeing Krish become successful, with a net worth over a hundred million, she wanted him back.

So she tried every means to disturb Krish and me, hoping I would back down.

Unexpectedly, Krish was driven to madness.

The car accident was largely his fault.

He completely lost the will to live and sought his own demise.

The situation was absurd.

I looked at Krish, who had woken up at some point but remained silent.

"Is it true?"

Krish was silent for a long time before nodding: "The doctor said your back injury is severe, and having a child would greatly affect your health. Since Elsie's child has no one to raise him, I thought we could adopt him; it would be a win-win situation."

I laughed.

A win-win situation.

This term was truly ridiculous in this context.

"Sophie, please forgive Krish. I won't ruin your relationship anymore. I never wanted to push him to his death; I just wanted a stable life…" Elsie cried, covering her face.

Krish looked at me with deep-set eyes, emotions swirling within like a vast ocean.

But I didn't want to delve deeper.

Looking at these two people who had disrupted my life, I took a deep breath and finally started to smile.

"I never liked to hesitate in my actions; once I make a decision, I won't change it. When I fell in love with Krish, I put in all my effort to pursue him. Supporting him in his startup, I invested my whole heart. No matter how tough or difficult it got, once I chose, I had no regrets. This time, I chose divorce because Krish cheated. Now you tell me that he didn't cheat, but the feelings are already gone. Between lovers, without honesty, he kept hiding things from me, and I can't love him unreservedly anymore."

"Krish, I gave you many opportunities. The trust that should exist between a couple has never been given to me. No one will wait forever. I want a life shared between two people. Elsie saved you; you should be grateful, but I can't keep her in my life forever as a third party."

"Whether you love me or not, I won't dwell on it anymore. I've decided to withdraw, and I won't look back."

This time, Krish didn't refute me.

He just looked at me with a pained expression.

Eventually, he smiled with me, but as he laughed, tears began to stream down his cheeks.

"I know I'll regret it for the rest of my life. I've missed out on too much. Just as you said, I've never been a qualified husband. You leaving is the right thing… Sophie, I respect all your decisions." His voice trembled.

After the divorce, he finally chose to respect me.

One spring, I decided to leave this place and fly to other countries.

I had once given up all my ideals and principles for a man, and during the times I thought he didn't love me, I finally found myself again.

If I couldn't live with dignity, how could I earn someone else's love?

Moreover, compared to a man's love, there are far more significant issues in my life.

Krish's body slowly recovered, and Elsie left.

And I, too, was set to embark on a brighter and more glorious future.
