Chapter 30: A Sudden Change in Expression

Josephine rolled her eyes. "Oh, you should go tell Stuart to give up on me."

Doris couldn't believe it. "No way, Stuart doesn't even like you. He can't wait for you to leave."

Josephine smirked. "You think you can be Stuart's wife without even grasping the rules of this circle? Sure, Stuart and I don't have feelings for each other, but our families have interests. He won't dump me for someone who doesn't help his career."

Doris's voice got louder, trying to hide her guilt. "No way."

Josephine sneered. "You know it deep down. Don't push my buttons. I don't have a good temper, and I won't let some newbie show off in front of me. Consider this a warning. Next time, it won't be so easy."

With that, Josephine turned and walked away gracefully, only to see Stuart standing nearby.

Who knew how much he heard?

Doris looked at Stuart with teary eyes. "Stuart, being with you, I don't care about your money. I even said I didn't want the things you gave me. But Josephine said..."

Before she could finish, Doris started to feel upset. Tears flowed, making her look pitiful.

Stuart frowned deeply, his face dark and gloomy.

He stood there tall and cold, staring at Josephine, exuding an oppressive aura.

Doris thought she had found a backer, and a barely noticeable victorious smile appeared on her lowered face.

Josephine met Stuart's piercing gaze and directly pointed out. "I was explaining to her that during the marriage, I can reclaim the things you gave to the mistress. What? Is that not allowed?"

Doris's action of wiping her tears paused for a few seconds. Was Josephine possessed?

Talking to Stuart like this, wasn't she afraid that Stuart would divorce her and her status as Mrs. Haustia would be at risk?

She thought, 'Go ahead and make a fuss! Josephine, you're digging your own grave. The more you make a fuss, the more Stuart will dislike you, and the better my chances will be. One day, I will replace you as Mrs. Haustia, and let's see how proud you will be then.'

Stuart's face remained expressionless. "Doris, you should leave first."

Doris, who was still hoping for a fight between Josephine and Stuart, was suddenly told by Stuart to leave, and she couldn't react.

But, under Stuart's sharp gaze, she had no choice but to leave. She walked away slowly, turning back every few steps like a crawling turtle.

Stuart had been sent to a military camp for special forces training since he was a child, and his hearing was far superior to ordinary people.

He hadn't spoken and stood in front of Josephine, not letting her leave.

Only after confirming that Doris had gone far enough not to hear their conversation did Stuart speak, "Josephine, have I not told you not to provoke Doris?"

Josephine maneuvered her wheelchair to Stuart, getting so close that they could smell each other's scent. "Stuart, did you bring your brain? You were the ones who came to provoke me first. It's a simple principle. The one who provokes first is cheap. How can you not understand? Not interfering with each other doesn't mean you can trample on my dignity. Being your Mrs. Haustia is so miserable, not trusted by you, laughed at by others for not being able to keep her man, and humiliated by the mistress."

Stuart was silent for 2 seconds and said, "You..."

Before he could finish, he suddenly felt a pain in his leg and instinctively took a step back.

Looking down, he saw that Josephine had kicked his calf with her good leg.

And she was wearing high heels, putting all her strength into that kick.

It really hurt!

Josephine scolded, turning her wheelchair, "Get lost, you unfaithful man."

Stuart pointed at himself, incredulous.

Had Josephine been taken over by some spirit lately? She wasn't her usual self, and now she had the audacity to lay a hand on him.

She had changed, and that familiar feeling of losing control suddenly resurfaced in his heart. Josephine stormed back into the venue, grabbed Claudia, and declared they were hitting a bar. It was the first time Josephine had ever suggested such a thing.

Claudia was puzzled. "Josephine, what got you so riled up?"

Josephine fumed, "I ran into Stuart and Doris. Can you believe my luck?"

Claudia's confusion turned to anger as she heard about Stuart's antics. "Let's go, I'll help you get even."

Josephine, in her wheelchair, was pushed out of the hotel by Claudia.

"Josephine? What a coincidence!" William, looking genuinely surprised, walked over to them.

His smile was bright and welcoming.

He was handsome, with sharp features, and looked even more refined in a suit.

Compared to Stuart's cold demeanor, William seemed much more approachable.

But Josephine sensed that William's smile was a bit forced, and his cheerful personality might be a facade.

People like that, who hid their true selves, were actually more dangerous, so Josephine kept her distance.

But then she thought, they were just acquaintances, no need to judge him.

Besides, he had saved her life once.

"Yeah, we meet again." William, still friendly, pointed to a Rolls-Royce nearby. "Where are you headed? Let me give you a ride."

"No need, we'll just grab a cab," Josephine instinctively refused.

"It's no trouble, really. I'd be honored to drive two lovely ladies." William insisted.

Josephine was on the verge of refusing once more, but Claudia had already accepted. Sitting in the back seat, Claudia, who had a soft spot for attractive men, kept nudging Josephine and commenting on how good-looking William was.

William had the driver take them to Nightshade Bar. Claudia was especially excited, still buzzing from the last male strip show. He arranged a luxurious private room with two-way glass, giving them a perfect view of the stage performance.

But people outside couldn't see in.

Through William's introduction, they learned that such a luxurious private room was hard to come by.

Although Claudia loved going to bars, she mostly went to quiet ones and had never seen anything like this.

She was excited, looking around, and whispered something in Josephine's ear that made her blush.

In the same private room, William, who had been observing them, curiously asked, "Josephine, what did she say?"

Josephine blushed even more at William's question, her earlobes turning red.

She hurriedly shook her head, denying. "Nothing... nothing."

But in her mind, she couldn't help but recall Claudia's words. "Doing it here would be thrilling. He looks good, pick him, pick him."

Claudia was getting more and more bold.

Since last time, Claudia had been constantly encouraging Josephine to cheat, tirelessly.

She even sent Josephine pictures of various handsome men.

William, hearing this, gave a charming smile. Smart as he was, he had already guessed from the girls' reactions that the topic was a bit risqué.

Josephine calmed down and said seriously, "Do you have any other business?"

William pretended not to hear the hint in Josephine's words and changed his approach.

Being shrewd, he could see that Claudia was the easiest to win over.

He was knowledgeable, well-read, humorous, and knew his boundaries, quickly hitting it off with Claudia.

Under the influence of William and Claudia, Josephine gradually relaxed.

The three of them sang together, getting more into it as Josephine drank more than she realized. Halfway through a duet, William's phone rang. He apologized and stepped outside to take the call, accidentally bumping into someone as he opened the door.

They both nodded and apologized, and that was it.

But the person who was bumped into inadvertently saw the scene inside the private room through the still-open door and their face changed dramatically.
