Chapter 110: Humiliation

"Yeah, Miss Garcia." Daphne replied and turned to leave.

Emily smiled, "Thanks for taking care of my fiancé, but where did this beef come from? Is it clean?"

"And you used way too much soy sauce. The flavor's too strong. Lewis likes lighter tastes. He won't enjoy this. Don't bother next time."

"I'll give you the addresses of the restaurants he usually eats at. Just get food from there."

Before she finished speaking, Daphne noticed the fancy lunchbox on the table.

Of course, she was being redundant. Lewis had just casually mentioned it, and here she was, eagerly trying to please. How shameless!

"Got it. Mr. Anderson, enjoy your meal. I'll be leaving now." Daphne turned and walked out, afraid that if she moved too slowly, they'd see through her vulnerability.

"Daphne!" Lewis called out from behind, but she didn't stop.

Was it really so hard for her to express her feelings?

Was it so difficult to admit her feelings for him in front of others?

Looking at the beef on the table, Lewis felt a mix of discomfort and a bit of joy. At least she cared about what he said.

Emily walked over and looked at Lewis gently. "You always have stomach issues. You can't just eat anything. Lewis, I'm doing this for you."

Lewis felt a wave of impatience upon hearing this. "Get out."

He didn't even want to pretend in front of her anymore, so he coldly dismissed her.

But Emily had grown used to his coldness and remained calm. "I'll watch you eat. Once you finish, I'll leave."

Lewis didn't want to continue arguing with her, so he picked up the utensils and ate the beef Daphne had brought, bite by bite.

His actions were clearly disrespectful to Emily.

Even though Emily had a strong mental fortitude, she was still hurt by his actions. "Lewis, we've grown up together. Do you have to humiliate me?"

"This isn't humiliation. If you don't know when to stop, you'll find out what real humiliation is." Lewis's patience was already thin. If it weren't for their past relationship, he wouldn't have tolerated her this long.

After finishing his meal, he stood up and threw away everything Emily had brought, then walked out.

Damn it!

Emily's eyebrows furrowed tightly, her fists clenched. Seeing Daphne's lunchbox on the table, she felt a surge of anger. She walked over, grabbed the lunchbox, and threw it into the trash can. After hesitating, she retrieved her own lunchbox, leaving only Daphne's in the trash.

After lunch, the cleaning staff came to tidy up Lewis's office. When they left, they were holding Daphne's lunchbox, muttering, "Why throw away a perfectly good lunchbox?"

Daphne immediately noticed the lunchbox in the cleaner's hand.

She had carefully chosen that lunchbox, so she recognized it instantly.

So, her feelings were worthless.

He said he wanted to eat her cooking, but then he threw it in the trash, along with her feelings.

Indeed, she felt like trash. Her feelings, her love, were all worthless in Lewis's eyes.

Last night's tenderness felt like an illusion, making it hard for Daphne to believe.

She quietly looked away, lowering her head, not wanting to admit the lunchbox was hers because it was a mark of her humiliation.

Soon, the board meeting was about to start, and everyone became particularly busy. Online, the criticism of Lewis had escalated to personal attacks. Some extreme netizens even gathered at the company entrance.

The security at the Anderson Group's entrance had increased significantly.

Even the other members of the Anderson family couldn't sit still, and Vernon had come to the company.

Daphne had worked at the company for a long time, but this was the first time she saw Vernon personally come to Lewis's office, indicating the severity of the situation.

Seeing this, Daphne couldn't help but worry.

She hated herself for being so weak, but she couldn't control her emotions. She used the excuse of serving tea to check if Lewis was okay.

"The company is in chaos because of you! Lewis, I entrusted the company to you, not to create trouble. Do you know the board's phones are ringing off the hook? You must give everyone an explanation!"

Vernon's face was red with anger, scolding Lewis without any courtesy.

Daphne glanced at Lewis, confirming he had no special reaction, then quietly placed the tea down and left.

She had been supported by the Anderson family since childhood, so she was familiar with Vernon. He was always gentle and rarely this angry, showing the extent of the damage this incident had caused.

After thinking for a moment, Daphne decided to go to the hospital.

The elderly patients currently hospitalized serve as the most credible witnesses. Should they choose to testify and confirm Lewis's non-involvement in the matter, even if the board of directors pursues accountability, they're unlikely to subject Lewis to severe repercussions.

She bought some fresh fruit and went to the hospital room, feeling a bit uneasy seeing the elderly patients.

She placed the fruit on the table and sat beside one of the elderly. "Are you feeling better today?"

These elderly people were from the nursing home, some were lonely, and others had unreliable children. They were often neglected and marginalized.

Now, someone genuinely cared about them and visited them, making them very happy and surprised.

The elderly man looked at Daphne and smiled. "Thank you for your concern. I'm feeling much better. Daphne, is there something you need?"

"Did the doctor say why you were poisoned? And can I see the previous contract with the nursing home again?" Daphne looked at the elderly man eagerly.

She needed to find out the truth. She needed to know what happened. She trusted Lewis but needed evidence.
