Chapter 109: Disgust
Nolan knew exactly who the key player in this battle was. He sighed and then said, "But what about the board?"
Lewis snorted. "They'll calm down eventually. Who cares what they think? Just a bunch of noisy old men."
He had been fed up with these old geezers for a long time, and now he had the chance to deal with them properly.
Seeing Lewis's determined expression, Nolan felt a sense of relief.
He immediately started organizing the documents and then asked, "By the way, Ms. Sullivan... she's working today, right?"
There had always been tension between the two, but today Lewis was clearly in a good mood, so Nolan quickly noticed something was different. He felt that the relationship between them seemed to have eased.
Lewis shot him a glare and snorted, "You talk too much."
"Got it, I'm out." Nolan nodded and turned to walk out.
As soon as he stepped out of the office, he saw Daphne in the secretary's office.
He knew that at such a critical moment, she would definitely come to work!
Indeed, Daphne and Lewis were a perfect match.
Lewis spent the entire morning distracted, his eyes constantly drifting to the door, hoping the person he was thinking about would walk in.
But throughout the morning, people from various departments came and went, yet the one person he was waiting for never showed up.
Even though they had held each other last night, it felt like she was avoiding him this morning.
At lunchtime, the office door opened again, but this time it wasn't the person he was expecting. Instead, it was the person he least wanted to see.
"What are you doing here?" Lewis was angry.
Emily hadn't expected to be questioned as soon as she walked in.
Her expression changed immediately, feeling a mix of unhappiness, but she still managed to smile as she walked over and placed the food container on the desk.
"Lewis, I came to see you. I know the company has been going through a lot lately, and I was worried about you, so I came to check on you."
Lewis felt no genuine concern from her, only probing.
He gave her a cold look. "Emily, I've told you, you shouldn't come and bother me."
"Lewis, what's wrong with you?"
"We grew up together, we're a perfect match, and you clearly care about me. Why are you torturing me like this?"
"Is it just because I left back then? I had no choice."
Emily's eyes reddened as she walked over and hugged Lewis from behind.
"Lewis, I know I was wrong. Isn't that why I came back?" Emily whispered apologies into his ear, her chest pressing against his back, clearly hinting at something more.
But Lewis had no interest in her now and pushed her away. "Emily, we're done. You're the one who can't let go. Now, the person who wants to marry me is Gloria. It has nothing to do with me."
Lewis's face was cold, and he looked at Emily with no warmth at all.
Emily felt like she was looking at a stranger.
She stepped back in disbelief. She had always thought Lewis was just angry with her, and she believed he still cared about her.
But now...
She could see clearly that he didn't love her anymore.
"Why? Lewis, how can you do this to me? How can you fall for a substitute while I wasn't around?" Emily was on the verge of losing it.
She couldn't understand why, even though she was right in front of him, he still looked at someone else.
And that someone was a substitute!
Compared to Emily's agitation, Lewis was exceptionally calm. "She's not."
He looked at Emily with annoyance, feeling nothing but disgust.
Emily quickly changed her approach, smiling as she said, "Fine, we'll do it your way. I brought you food from your favorite restaurant. Try it."
She opened the food container and laid out the contents on the desk.
As soon as the lunch break started, Daphne walked into the break room with a food container, ready to heat up the meal and bring it to Lewis.
After waiting for the microwave to finish, she carried the steaming food container to Lewis's office.
Nolan was sitting at the door. He had seen Emily go in earlier, and now he saw Daphne approaching. He quickly stood up to stop her. "Ms. Sullivan, what are you doing?"
"Mr. Anderson hasn't been feeling well, so I made him something to eat," Daphne said honestly.
Although she was just a secretary at the company, taking care of the general manager's health was part of her job.
Hearing this, Nolan's expression became more complicated. He looked at Daphne, hesitating several times before choosing to remain silent. He couldn't help Lewis any more!
Daphne felt something was off. Nolan's eyebrows were tightly knit, and she asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Does Mr. Anderson have a guest?"
"Oh, yes, he does have a guest. Maybe you should come back later?" Nolan quickly suggested, hoping Daphne wouldn't go in now and get hurt.
Daphne blinked and then said softly, "But it'll get cold. This is the beef he wanted."
With that, Daphne walked past Nolan and headed to the office. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Emily casually sitting on the desk.
Now she understood!
No wonder Nolan had looked so strange earlier. The guest was Emily.
She tightened her grip on the food container, unsure whether to go forward or leave.
"Come here." Lewis's eyes lit up when he saw her, and he waved her over.
Now, even if she wanted to leave, it was too late.
Daphne reluctantly stepped forward and opened her food container, the fragrant beef still steaming.
"Mr. Anderson, you said you wanted beef, so I made some at home." Daphne tried to keep her tone professional.
But as soon as she walked in, Emily's expression changed.
She stood up, crossed her arms, and glanced at the food container on the desk. "Did you make this yourself?"
