Chapter 137: Expecting Under Siege

Lira pov

I lasted four days on bed rest before the council attacked. Not the full seven days they'd promised not even close. They struck at dawn on the fourth day with overwhelming force. The alarm bells woke me. Kael was already gone, already fighting.

"Stay down!" Aria burst into the room. "The council sent at least three hundred warriors. They're hitting every entrance simultaneously."

"Three hundred?" I threw off the blankets. "We can't fight that many, we only have."

"Two hundred and seventy." She grabbed my arm. "Including the refugees. We're outnumbered but not by much so Kael's organizing defensive positions now."

"I need to help." I stood despite her protests. "I need to fight."

"You need to protect that baby!" She blocked the door. "Lira, you're pregnant. The baby is developing at accelerated speed. If you fight, you could miscarry."

"If I don't fight, everyone could die!" I pushed past her. "Including me and the baby anyway!"

I ran toward the main courtyard and found it was in chaos. Warriors fighting desperately. Blood everywhere. Kael fought in the center. His wolf form tearing through enemies. But even from here I could see he was struggling. Taking hits he shouldn't. Moving slower than usual.

Because he was worried about me, distracted by fear for our baby.

"Kael!" I channeled fire carefully and sent a controlled burst at the warriors surrounding him. "Focus! I'm safe!"

He shifted back to human form. "Get back inside! You're supposed to be resting!"

"I'm supposed to be leading!" I moved to his side. "We do this together. Remember?"

"You're pregnant!" He grabbed my arm. "You can't"

An enemy warrior lunged at us, i reacted on instinct and sent fire, the warrior disintegrated as all that was left was flames. Everyone froze staring at me.

"What was that?" Thomas breathed. "That power, intensity. I've never seen you do that before."

"Neither have I." I stared at my hands. They glowed with silver light. Power radiating beyond anything I'd felt before. "Something's different, something changed."

"The baby." Aria appeared beside us. "The baby's power is amplifying yours, Moonblood enhancing Moonblood. You're channeling for two now."

"Is that dangerous?" Kael demanded.

"Probably." She admitted. "But also useful. Lira, can you control it?"

I tested the power and felt it respond differently. "I think so." I channeled fire again. This time deliberately, it formed into a shield around our warriors. Protecting them from enemy attacks. "Yes. I can control it."

"Then use it." Kael decided. "Carefully we need every advantage."

The battle resumed with me actively fighting instead of resting. I sent waves of fire at enemy formations. "She's unstoppable!" Someone shouted. "The pregnant Luna is unstoppable!"

"Retreat!" An enemy commander called. "Fall back! Regroup! We can't fight this!"

They fled, leaving behind wounded but taking their dead.I collapsed the moment they were gone. The amplified power draining me completely. "Lira!" Kael caught me. "Aria! Something's wrong!"

She rushed over. Placed hands on my stomach, her expression shifted from concern to shock. "The baby." She breathed. "It's grown again. Significantly. You're showing development consistent with twelve weeks now at only five weeks actual time."

"What does that mean?" I asked weakly.

"It means the baby used your power output to accelerate its growth." She said. "Fed off the fire you channeled, the baby grew stronger from the battle energy."

"So our child is literally feeding on my magic?" I tried to process this. "Using it to develop faster?"

"Essentially." She helped me sit up. "Which means every time you use significant power, the baby grows. Accelerates development. Could be born in weeks instead of months."

The implications hit me"Weeks?" Kael's voice shook. "We could have a baby in weeks?"

"Possibly." Aria said carefully. "I won't know for certain until I can monitor more closely. But yes. Accelerated Moonblood pregnancy could mean birth in as little as four to six weeks total."

"I'm not ready." I said. "We're not ready, we are  in the middle of a war, how do we bring a baby into this?"

"The same way everyone does." Aria said gently. "One day at a time."

"Easy for you to say." I touched my stomach. “You're not carrying a magical accelerated baby during a revolution."

"No." She smiled slightly. "But I'm helping someone who is and I promise, we'll figure this out together."

A commotion at the gates drew our attention. "Luna Lira!" A female voice called out. "We heard about the attack! We've come to help!"

I recognized her, one of the Luna witnesses from the first battle. The grey - haired one who'd promised to spread word.

"You brought help?" I called back.

"I brought an army." She gestured behind her , behind her were at least fifty more warriors emerged from the forest. "Six packs pledged support, they sent their best fighters. We're here to protect you and the revolution."

"Why?" I asked. "Why risk your packs for us?"

"Because you're carrying hope." She moved closer as her eyes dropped to my stomach. "Carrying the first Moonblood child in over twenty years. If you survive, if your baby survives, it proves the council's genocide failed. Proves Moonbloods can rise again. That's worth protecting."

"How did you know?" I demanded. "About the baby? We kept it secret."

"Pregnant Luna has a scent." She said simply. "Every wolf here can smell it. Can sense the power growing inside you, you can't hide this. Especially not when the baby amplifies your abilities."

I looked around at the assembled wolves, at their expressions. They knew. "The council will find out." Kael said quietly. "If every wolf can sense it, they'll learn soon. Will send everything they have to eliminate you both."

"Then let them come." I stood despite my exhaustion.

"Lira." He grabbed my shoulders. "You just collapsed. You're exhausted, you can't fight again so soon."

"Watch me." I pulled free gently. "The baby is amplifying my power. Making me stronger than before. I'm not going to waste that advantage."

"You're going to burn out completely!" He protested. "Kill yourself trying to be invincible!"

"Or I'll win this war before the baby is born." I countered. "Win it while I have amplified power. While I'm strong enough to face anything. That's smarter than waiting until I'm vulnerable."

He wanted to argue. I felt it through the bond but the logic was irrefutable.

"Fine." He conceded. "But you rest between battles, you eat constantly and you let me protect you when possible. That's the compromise."

"Deal." I turned to the  Luna. "What's your name? I should know who I'm thanking for bringing reinforcements."

"Luna Morrigan." She bowed slightly. "Of Silverpine Pack and it's an honor to fight beside you."

"The honor is mine." I addressed all the newcomers. "You're risking everything to stand with us, i won't forget that. Won't waste your sacrifice. We're going to win this war together."

They howled together in approval. "Thomas, integrate the new warriors into our defenses. Train them on our tactics and make sure they understand the battle plan."

"On it." He moved to organize them.

"Aria." I turned to the healer. "I need you to monitor my pregnancy constantly. Tell me if the baby's growth becomes dangerous. If continuing to fight risks miscarriage."

"I will." She promised. "But Lira, you need to understand. Every battle accelerates development. Every major power use feeds the baby, you could be giving birth in three weeks at this rate."

"Three weeks." I processed that. "That's... terrifyingly fast."

"That's Moonblood." She said. "Ancient bloodlines don't follow normal rules. Your baby is growing according to its own timeline. We just have to adapt."

Nicolas appeared through the crowd. "The council will attack again. They know you're pregnant now. Know the baby is powerful. They'll strike before it's born, before you can establish a new Moonblood line."

"How soon?" Kael asked.

"Days." Nicolas said grimly. "Maybe hours, they are regrouping now but they'll come back with everything."

"Then we prepare for one massive defense." I decided.

"All of us." Morrigan echoed. "We stand together, we fight together and we win together."

The pack—our growing alliance—howled agreement. But I felt the truth beneath the bravado. We were outmatched, outnumbered and definitely exhausted.

And I was pregnant with a baby growing too fast. A baby that might be born in the middle of battle, a baby the council would kill the moment they learned it existed.

"Kael." I pulled him aside. "If the council breaks through. If they reach me, if they're going to kill the baby..."

"They won't." His voice was cold. "I'll die before I let them touch you."

"But if they do" I insisted.

"They won't." He grabbed my face. "Listen to me. You're the strongest Luna I've ever known. Our baby is already manifesting impossible power. Together, you're unbeatable. So stop planning for failure and start believing in victory."

"I'm trying." I admitted.

"Then we fight harder." He pulled me close.

I wanted to believe him. Wanted to trust that fear could become strength. But as I looked at our assembled defenders, at the wolves preparing to die for us, at my stomach where our baby grew impossibly fast… I wondered if bravery would be enough.

"Whatever happens." I said to Kael. "Whatever comes next. Know that I love you, that this was worth it. That fighting beside you has been the greatest honor of my life."

"Don't talk like that." His voice cracked. "Don't talk like we're going to lose."

"I'm talking like a realist." I touched his face. "The council is coming with everything. We might not survive this time around but I want you to know—I'd choose this again, choose you again. Choose this revolution again even knowing the cost."

He kissed me. When he pulled back, his eyes blazed with determination. "Then let's make sure the cost buys something permanent."
