Chapter 35: The Alliance

POV: Aria Blackwood

Dominic walks into Cade's war room like he owns it.

He's not here to fight. Not here to demand anything. He's here to offer everything. And Cade looks up from the battle maps with an expression that shifts instantly from expectation to respect.

"I'm standing with you," Dominic says. No preamble. No negotiation. Just the statement of fact. "Silver Crest will defend Aria against the Council. If they come for her, they come through my wolves first."

Cade sets down his pen slowly. "You understand what you're offering?"

"Yes," Dominic says. He moves to the table and puts his hands flat on it like he's making an oath. "I'm risking my pack. My position. My entire future. If this fails, if Aria is convicted, Silver Crest will be declared enemies of the Council. We'll be hunted."

"And you're willing to accept that," Cade says. It's not a question.

"I'm willing to accept it," Dominic confirms. "Because it's the right thing to do. And because I was wrong before. I won't be wrong again."

Something shifts in Cade's expression.

It's not forgiveness. It's not friendship. But it's respect. Real respect for a man willing to burn everything for what he believes in.

"Then we're allies," Cade says. He extends his hand across the table.

Dominic takes it.

The handshake is brief but absolute. Two Alphas deciding to stand together against an enemy that wants them both destroyed.

Aria watches this from the doorway where she's been standing unnoticed. She feels something twist inside her chest. The respect between these two men. The way they're willing to put aside everything for her.

Over the next hours, messengers arrive from across the territories.

A rogue pack from the eastern territories pledges support. They've been crushed under Council authority for years. A smaller pack from neutral ground arrives with warriors. They're tired of the Council's tyranny. A group of independent wolves who've been living outside pack structures sees an opportunity to fight for freedom.

The war room fills with representatives.

Cade and Dominic work together strategizing. Not as rivals. As equals. As two men who respect each other enough to combine their forces. They're planning defense positions. Planning how to protect the trial grounds so the Council can't execute Aria without due process.

They're building an army.

Not to attack the Council. To defend her right to exist.

Aria realizes what's happening.

Dominic sacrificed his position to come here. He rode away from Silver Crest knowing his pack might declare him unfit. Knowing his authority could be challenged while he's gone. Knowing he might return to find himself replaced.

Cade is risking everything he's built. Blood Moon is being drained of warriors to defend a girl. His territory is vulnerable. His power is compromised.

Both of them are burning their worlds for her.

She walks away from the war room unable to process it.

In her chamber, Aria sits alone and feels the weight of their choices.

The mate bond pulls toward Dominic. It's telling her that he loves her. That he's proven it. That she should forgive him and accept his bond. That this is what fated mates do.

But Cade's honesty echoes too. He didn't ask for her forgiveness. Didn't demand she recognize his sacrifice. He just stood beside her and did what needed to be done.

And she still doesn't know which one she wants.

By midnight, word has spread through the territories.

An alliance is forming. A coalition of wolves who are tired of Council authority. Smaller packs. Rogues. Independents. All gathering because two powerful Alphas decided to stand with a blood witch.

The Council's forces are being matched by defenders.

The trial is no longer just about Aria's survival. It's become about the future of werewolf society. It's become about whether the Council's authority can be challenged. Whether blood witches can exist. Whether power can be distributed instead of hoarded.

Everything has changed.

Aria stands on the watchtower at dawn and looks at the army assembling in the distance.

Warriors from a dozen territories. Blood Moon wolves. Silver Crest fighters. Rogues who've been waiting for this moment. All of them coming to defend her right to live.

It's overwhelming.

It's beautiful.

It's terrifying.

Cade appears beside her on the tower. He doesn't speak. Just stands there acknowledging that she exists. That she matters. That whatever happens at the trial, she has people willing to fight for her.

"How do you feel?" he asks finally.

"Terrified," Aria admits. "Powerful. Confused. All of it."

"That's honest," Cade says. "That's good."

Dominic appears from the other direction. He looks like he's been awake all night. Fighting. Planning. Preparing to die for her if necessary.

"The trial grounds are set," he says. His voice is hoarse from shouting orders. "We've positioned defenders around the perimeter. The Council can't harm you without going through multiple lines of warriors. You'll be safe."

"This isn't about safety," Aria says. She looks between both of them. "You know that, right? This isn't about me being protected. This is about whether the Council stays in power. This is about the future."

"It's both," Dominic says. "It's about keeping you alive and changing the system that would kill you for existing."

Aria feels the mate bond pull but she forces it down.

"I still haven't decided," she says. The words are hard but honest. "I still don't know which of you I want. Which of you I choose."

Cade nods like he expected this. "You have until after the trial. After you've survived this. After you've proven you're not a threat. Then you can choose."

"What if I can't choose?" Aria asks.

"Then you'll have to become someone who can," Dominic says. His voice is gentle. "Right now you're caught between what the bond wants and what you want. You're caught between two versions of yourself. The trial will force you to choose who you actually are. And maybe that's when you'll understand what you actually want."

Aria looks at the army in the distance.

She looks at these two men who are willing to burn their worlds for her.

She feels the power inside her. The darkness. The light. The endless capacity for both cruelty and mercy. The hunger. The control.

And she realizes something fundamental.

She doesn't have to choose between them right now.

She has to choose who she is first.

Everything else comes after that.

Messengers arrive from the Council at midday.

They're setting the trial to begin at sunset. In the sacred grounds. In the place where blood witches were executed centuries ago. In the place where ancient power lives in the blood-soaked earth.

Aria will have to stand in that place and defend herself against wolves who want her dead.

She'll have to prove she's not a tyrant.

She'll have to show that power and mercy can exist together.

And if she fails, the entire alliance standing behind her will burn trying to protect her.

Cade and Dominic exchange looks across the courtyard.

Both of them nod.

They're ready.

Aria stands between them and feels the moment arrive.

Everything has been building toward this.

Everything changes when the sun sets.
