Lucian and I remained crouched in our positions on a rooftop of one of the storage sheds at The Saint Marine port.
We watched as men were unloading wooden boxes from the only ship standing in the harbour. It was more of a battleship than a normal one with its several gun ports on both sides.
My eyes went to the very tip of the ship and I saw the name 'The Jolly Roger' carved onto it in bold, italic font.
The Jolly Roger is the name the marines would use to call a pirate flag with.
"Do you think that those are the weapons inside those boxes?" I heard Lucian ask in a low voice next to me.
"Surely," came my simple reply as I continued watching.
"Do you have the camera ready?" I asked Lucian after a couple of minutes.
"Yup." He replied, popping the 'p' as he patted the camera that he had handing from his neck.
"Rose." I heard Hugh call. He was careful not to use my real name since Freya was sitting right next to him and Lucian could hear him clearly from his earpiece.
"Yeah?" I replied, keeping my eyes on the moving men.
I heard, more than saw Lucian snapping a couple of pictures of the scene in front of us.
"I'm really sorry about this, but I want you to get me one of those weapons." Hugh said hesitantly and I could imagine him biting the inside of his cheek.
Lucian turned towards me, giving me a what the hell look.
I just shrugged my shoulders at him, my own face contorted to that of confusion.
"Why? That wasn't our original plan." Lucian asked before I got the chance to. He was more growling at Hugh than asking.
Our original plan was to just take a few new pictures and videos of the shipping and the weapons inside the boxes since the ones we had were seven years old, if not more.
We wanted solid proof that we saw and captured with our own eyes. We had to know who was buying them and for what and what does all this have to do with my parents.
"Well, Freya and I were looking through the videos again and we were suspecting something, so I wanted to make sure." Hugh explained.
"Suspect what?" I asked.
I heard Hugh sigh deeply. "I'll explain everything later Rose, just please get me one of those weapons, just one." He pleaded.
I sigh of my own left my mouth.
"Sorry." Hugh mumbled.
"What? Are we really going to do as he said?" Lucian asked me with wide eyes when I sighed again.
"Yeah, he said that they suspected something and it might help us later on." I replied with a shrug of my shoulders.
Lucian groaned before letting a series of words that would put any pirate to shame.
"I just wanted to spend a peaceful night with you. Talk and get to know each other or something." He whined.
"Sorry." I murmured as I watched him with amusement.
Lucian and I didn't linger in our places much before jumping to the ground and hiding behind one of the metal storage sheds.
Our eyes scanned the ship's exterior for the best way to enter but it seemed that there where men everywhere, making it hard to board.
My eyes landed on a rope and plank makeshift ladder that was hanging along the ship's hull.
I tugged at Lucian's sleeve before pointing towards the ladder.
He nodded curtly at me in agreement.
We moved behind the many sheds to the nearest point from the ladder.
The part where the ladder hung had the sea water under it and since we can't risk jumping into the water, there was no other choice but to jump to it, in hopes of not falling down.
Lucian and I both had our scents masked and the water will just remove the effect. It will also ruin the earpieces that we had so water was a big, fat no.
I took in a deep breath before running towards the ladder then jumping.
I successfully latched onto its middle part, making sure that I'm as quite as possible but I guess I wasn't quite enough.
"Did you hear that?" I heard someone ask.
I remained stuck in my position, the only thing hiding me was the dark blanket of the night.
I held my breath and shut my eyes tight as I heard the other man reply.
"Nah, maybe some rat or something. Stop being such a scaredy cat." The man snorted earning himself a growl from the other man.
They soon left to go help their friends load the rest of the boxes onto the ship's deck.
I climbed up a little higher to give Lucian the chance to latch onto the ladder and he didn't waste time to.
We both started climbing the rather short ladder until my head reached mere centimetre above the threshold of the spar deck.
I made sure that no one was looking before quickly jumping and hiding behind a rum barrel, Lucian following on suit. There were a couple of barrels lined next to each other, forming a wall between us and the working men.
"Let's make this quick okay, they're outnumbering us." I spoke softly and Lucian just nodded at me with a stern look on his face.
I turned my head towards the approaching men and watched as they placed a wooden box right next to us.
Just our luck.
"Be careful." I whispered as Lucian reached for the lid.
He slowly opened it before sliding it slightly to the side and just as he was about to reach in to grab one of the weapons, a loud voice made us poop our hearts.
"Hey! What the hell is this?!" Someone yelled as he marched towards us.
Lucian quickly retracted his hand and breathed heavily next to me.
"Don't get hurt, you hear me?" He ordered before jumping out to the guy and engaging in a fight.
I saw the rest of the crew approaching quickly towards the two men.
They were outnumbering Lucian.
I quickly drew my swords out and jumped from my place to stand between the approaching men and Lucian who was still fighting with the bulky guy.
They looked startled by my sudden appearance and involuntary took a step back.
"Going somewhere boys?" I smirked at them.
Their eyes turned to the swords that I held in each hand but then quickly snapped back to me.
A low growl escaped from the chest of the man standing right in the middle.
"Get her!" He barked out, his eyes changing colours.
Some of the men shifted into their wolves while other remained in their human forms as they lunged at me.
I dodged the first wolf the aim for my chest and successfully slashed him across his stomach.
Two others came from behind me. I elbowed one in the stomach while kicking the other across the face.
I kept aiming and dodging attacks, going right, twirling left and slashing up and down for what seemed like forever.
The whole time, I would constantly steal glances at Lucian to make sure that he was okay.
He was already done with the first guy he was fighting and moved on to his next victim.
Slowly, the number of the men started decreasing, and it wasn't too long before I kicked the last wolf, knocking him unconscious.
I turned around in search for Lucian only to gasp loudly at what I saw.
He was lying on his back with too much blood flowing on his right side.
He was motionless and his opened eyes were looking up at the sky.
No. No. No.
I shouldn't have let him get involved. This is all my fault!
The worst-case scenarios didn't leave my mind as I ran towards him at lighting speed, and just as I fell on both knees next to him to his left, I was suddenly pulled down so that I laid on the deck right next to him.
"L-Lucian?" I called, my voice coming out weak.
He had an arm under my head and his own head kept looking up.
"Yeah?" He replied nonchalantly.
"Yeah?" I repeated. "What do you mean by yeah? What happened to you? Are you okay?" I asked with wide eyes.
Lucian shrugged. "Never better."
I scrunched up my face at him. "And what about the blood next to you?" I asked as I craned my neck to be able to look at his face.
"Not mine." Came his simple reply.
I kept quiet for a second, appalled by what just happened.
Wait? What happened?
Suddenly I heard the sound of feet stomping on the wooden ship.
"Lucian? What are you doing? Get up!" I spoke with urgency as I heard the footsteps coming closer, but he wouldn't budge.
Ugh! Can't a guy enjoy star gazing with his mate in peace?" He groaned out, asking no one in particular.
I couldn't help the chuckle that threatened to escape my lips at what he just said.
I playfully slapped his shoulder as I stood up from my place. My eyes caught the sight of running men and all too soon, a man aimed a fist directly to my cheekbone.
Pain shot up through my whole face and sounded in my head as I stumbled back but was able to regain balance quickly.
A low, menacing growl echoed through the night sky. It sent pleasant shivers down my spine but made the hairs on the men's neck stand to an end.
I looked up to see Lucian grabbing the man's throat angrily.
"How dare you touch her?" Lucia growled, his voice icy and inhumane.
The man yelped audibly as he struggled for breath.
"You're dead!" Lucian seared before punching the man in the guts.
The man doubled over to as much as he could do in his position.
Lucian didn't waste time before punching the man directly in the face, making him lose consciousness instantly.
He then turned towards the sea and with no regrets or second thoughts, threw him to it.
My eyes widened at what he did, and I just stood there with my feet nailed to the ground.
Rose was howling inside my head at how strong and powerful our mate was, but I really didn't know what to think of the situation.
I was snapped out of my thoughts with the sounds of yelps, groans, and growls.
I looked up to see Lucian fighting off the new crew that arrived.
I quickly ran to help him.
I finished off three men and as I was about to punch the fourth in the face, he surprised me by skilfully blocking my attack with his arm.
"How about you get rid of those swords and show me what you're really worth?" The man sneered in my face with a smug smirk on his own.
I growled lowly at him. I was not one to back done and I can surely finish him off without my weapons.
I placed my swords back in place, my glaring eyes never leaving his smug ones.
I aimed another fist to his chest but again he blocked it with his wrist.
I was getting angry with every attack he blocked, and I was soon aiming a series of repeated and quick punches and kicks, which he dodged all too well.
I watched carefully how he blocked my attacks, every move he makes and every angle he positions his limbs at. I was learning from him more than fighting him.
I guess I lost concentration for only a second because the next thing I know, a fist connected with my gut making me double over and all of a sudden, a hand ran down my face, snatching my mask along with it.
I gasped loudly and kept my face down so that my hair and hood would cover it.
Oh God. This can't be. My face is exposed. They'll know who I am. They'll attack my pack, attack my friends, attack me. I panicked.
"Now, why don't you show us your face huh? Let's see who's that girl that everyone's aware of. Or are you afraid?" The man who I was fighting snorted and I could imagine the ugly smirk on his face.
I growled loudly at him, still keeping my face down, and just as I was about to make the worst decision of my life, a hand held my arm and quickly turned me toward a hard chest that covered my face.
Lucian held my waist tightly as he slowly started taking careful steps backwards.
I heard the man growl at him, and I soon felt the other men approach Lucian and me as we continued stepping back.
Lucian snarled at them, but they weren't taking any of it.
"You better get yourself out of it, Prince." The man sneered, spitting the word 'prince' like it was poison in his mouth.
I felt Lucian halt, probably from the rail that was now connected to his back. We were trapped.
I tried to free myself from Lucian's hold and fight alongside him, but he just tightened his hold on me.
"And you better start on the will that you'll be leaving behind." Lucian replied with a snarl of his own.
"You have a chance until I'm back but right now, I have no time for you." Lucian stated with a shrug making me furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"Hold your breath." He whispered into my ear and before I got the chance to reply, we jumped. More like he jumped and pulled me with him. Away from the men, away from the fighting and into the dark oblivion of the sea.
