Chapter 64: A Proposal
A week passed and no word from Madi. College started but no sign of her. Marty was a mess. MJ was worried about them both. It’s Friday night and MJ decided to text her again.
MJ texted Madi. “I found your test, call me. Just us girls.”
“Can we meet and talk?” Madi texted back.
“Name the time and place.” MJ replied.
“Tomorrow, park, 1pm?” Madi responded back.
“Okay.” MJ agreed.
“Babe, I’m meeting her tomorrow to talk. Do not tell Marty!” MJ said.
“Okay, but I don’t like keeping this from him.” Jared said.
“He screwed up. He needs to learn a lesson. Besides, I promised just us girls. I’ll do my best to try to get her to come here and talk.” MJ said.
“Okay.” Jared replied.
“If she agrees, I’ll text you. Then you can let him know we’re on our way.” MJ said.
The next day they meet at the park. Madi was already there sitting on the picnic table. MJ walked up and sat down. Both were hesitant at first.
“Hey.” MJ said.
“Hey.” Madi said back.
“So have you been to the doctor?” MJ asked.
“Yes, I’m 8 weeks. Everything with the baby is fine.” Madi responded.
“Marty is a complete mess. I’ve never seen him like this, I know he was really stupid getting so drunk. But he really does love you.” MJ said.
“I know, I know it was that tramp. But the fact is if he hadn’t gotten that drunk, it never would have happened.” Madi said.
“Right, if he wasn't dog drunk, it would never have happened.” MJ repeated.
“My emotions are all over the place.” Madi said.
“Pregnancy hormones.” MJ said.
“What should I do?” Madi asked.
“I can’t make that decision for you. What do you want?” MJ said.
“I want that night to have never happened.” Madi said.
“Well, that can't happen. All you can do is learn from it, talk it out and decide if you can forgive and move forward. You know the good thing about forgiveness and moving on is all the attention you get from their guilt! And the amazing make up sex!” MJ said.
“I guess you’d know about that.” Madi said.
“You just need to decide what you want moving forward. Can you forgive and move on? What do you want for you and your baby?” MJ asked.
“I want to be a family. I want my baby to have a mother and a father. My father left the day my mom told him she was pregnant. I’m terrified of history repeating itself.” Madi explained.
“Trust me, that’s not even an option for Marty. Family means everything to him.” MJ said.
“How did things get so complicated?” Madi asked.
“Life! Do you want to go home? Talk it over with the daddy to be?” MJ asked.
“Shit, is he gonna freak out? Did you tell him?” Madi asked.
“No. This is your news to tell. He’ll be happy to see you, he’ll be beside himself with relief.” MJ said.
“Okay, let’s go.” Madi said.
“Let me text Jared and let him know.” MJ said.
“Okay.” Madi agreed.
“We’re on the way.” MJ texted Jared.
“Okay.” Jared replied back.
The girls went back to the apartment. Jared let Marty know Madi was coming to talk. The guys were waiting on the couch for them. They walked into the apartment. MJ and Jared go to their bedroom. Marty stood up nervously. Madi walked over to the couch.
“I can’t tell you how sorry I am. I promise you I will never get drunk ever again and put us in that situation.” Marty explained.
“It really hurt to see her kissing you and you not doing anything about it. I think that hurt the most.” Madi said.
“I know and I’ve been kicking myself ever since. The look on your face ripped my heart apart.” Marty replied.
“But I decided that I need to forgive you and move forward.” Madi said.
“You just tell me whatever I need to do. I’ll do it. If it means you're back in my arms and life.” Marty said.
“Well, lots of groveling of course. Lots of treating me like a queen, and lots of makeup sex.” Madi explained.
“I’ll do it all. Done.” Marty said.
Marty grabbed her and hugged her tight. And as he pulled back to kiss her she put a finger over his lips. He was confused.
“We have one more thing to talk about.” Madi said.
“Okay.” Marty replied.
“We should sit.” Madi proceeded.
They sit down on the couch.
“So, I don’t know how this happened. I didn’t miss any pills, but it still happened.” Madi said.
Marty still looked confused.
“I’m pregnant, 8 weeks.” Madi explained.
“Wow, and how do you feel about it?” Marty asked.
“Scared, confused, nervous.” Madi responded.
“What about you?” Madi asked him.
“Shocked.” Marty said.
“So now what?” Madi asked.
“Well, I always saw us married with kids in the future. So that timeline just gets moved forward.” Marty said.
Marty got up and grabbed her hand. He led her into their bedroom. He went over to one of his drawers and got out a small box and receipt.
“I bought this 2 weeks ago. I was trying to pick the perfect time to ask. I think now is that time.” Marty explained.
Marty gets down on one knee. “Madi, you’re my heart, my life. I can only see you in my future. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to give you whatever your heart desires. Will you marry me?” Marty asked.
“It’s not just because of the baby?” Madi asked.
“Here’s the receipt and in case you don’t like the ring.” Marty said.
“YES! YES!” Madi screamed.
“Really” Yes?” Marty was shocked.
“YES!” Madi said again.
Marty put the ring on her finger then picked her up and spun her around in his arms. They kissed and had the best makeup sex all night long. The next morning Jared and MJ were making breakfast when Madi and Marty walked into the kitchen.
“So?” MJ asked.
Madi held out her hand, showing the pretty, gorgeous ring.
“OMG it’s gorgeous! I’m so jealous.” MJ said.
“I know!! I love it!!” Madi said.
“All good?” MJ asked.
“Yeah.” Madi replied.
“Congrats to you both!” MJ said.
“Thanks sis! Bro guess you’re gonna have to step up your game!!” Marty told Jared.
“Thanks “bro”!” Jared mocked.
Jared saw the wistful and then hurt look on MJ’s face.
“Babe, you know that’s our future.” Jared said.
MJ turned her back on him to the stove.
“Okay everyone, breakfast is ready.” MJ said.
Marty shoots Jared a “you fucked up” look. Jared shoots him back an irritated look. Madi sighs and they eat in silence. MJ just pushed her food around her plate.
“He just acted like someone was trying to force him into something. Days of shotgun weddings were over; guess he didn’t get the memo.” MJ thought.
