Chapter 84: Unexpected News

Jake’s POV

I got a surprise call from Mike. After I banished him and his family, I never thought that I would hear from him again. I only answered because of his previous loyalty to our pack. It wasn’t his fault that his mate had messed up his children. I am glad that I answered that call now, and my heart is in my throat. We have a mess, and I needed to get everyone together at the same time to tell them. We need for the patrols to be on alert tonight, and we need to get a plan together right now.

As Lane unlocked his office to let us in, we all knew at midnight this had to be a serious matter. It could not wait until the morning. I waited until we were all in the room as we needed to take care of this problem. “I just got a phone call. Tomorrow at 3 p.m. Lyell will be leading a group of people into Moss Point. I do not know all the information, but he is working with Karla, her brother, and her friends. I was also told that they have some rogues with them that are willing to help them. Karla is coming here with the intention of killing Evie. I was told that Lyell agree to sneak them in here with the promise of getting his precious car back,” I told them.

I was met with stunned silence in return. Lane had called Garrison to come to this meeting in anticipation of an issue having come up. Garrison was already increasing the patrols in both number, and frequency right now. Lane and Savannah were so angry at this announcement that I didn’t know what they were going to do. Lane looked ready to explode in anger right now.

“Mike is coming tomorrow at noon. He was furious when he overheard them making their plans. He is going to help us fight them. He had already warned Karla to leave Evie alone. He is angry enough now to kill them both. He is an excellent fighter, and I trust that he will help us. He is an honorable man, and he didn’t have to warn us. So, I trust him in this. Apparently it was Lyell’s idea to hit us during the day, so we wouldn’t expect it. He knows that the guard changes out then is what I was told, so there would be no patrol coming by to catch them until they were already inside the packlands. I don’t know how they think they will get the vehicle out of here though, the gate guards will not be openign the gate for him. It is not a smart plan at all, and I am surprised that he thinks that it is going to work. I can only believe that Lyell may be trying to lead a small revolt. That by killing you Lane, and Evie as well, that he will be able to take the pack back,” I told them.

That is the only thing that makes sense. I was stunned when I got the call. I still cannot believe that Karla is so angry that she is willing to enter an unknown pack just to kill Evie. I knew Lyell was not going to let this go. He was just furious about his little car being taken from him. Lane told me the night that he banished his father and Lyell, that he had upped the patrols, by adding another team. He figured that Lyell would show up within a month to try to take back the car.

“I agree with Jake. Lyell can’t beat me on his own, so he is teaming up with others. It would make sense as Karla had threatened to kill Evie before, that she was going to try to make good on her promise. If they killed me, the pack would go to Evie, or Savannah until Evie was trained. If they kill all three of us, I am sure the pack won’t like it, but they would probably not argue about Lyell taking it back over. Who else could? Lyell would just bring his grandfather back to help him run Moss Point. With us gone, and no proof of what happened here, the council would have to allow it. I will contact them first thing in the morning,” Lane said.

I have Beau, and Lee with me, and a few strong warriors. This pack is good, and has some pretty good fighters, but Karla and Steven are also good fighters too, as are Aria and Ashley. Mike didn’t know how many rogue wolves that they had suckered into this fools mission. I don’t know how tomorrow is going to go, but I wanted Evie out of here right now. I cannot allow Karla to hurt her. I would not want to go on without her. I need to get more men here. I hate doing it, but we need them here before daylight. I mindlinked Samuel to get a group of trusted men up. Ones that would not leak this information to Steven, or Karla. He knew where I was going with this. I told him they needed to pack for a stay of two days, and I needed them on the road in thirty minutes. There was no time to waste here.

I was glad to see Lane was also on the phone and calling the two closest packs for assistance. I didn’t think that in just a week’s time that Karla had amassed an army. But we do not know who she has with her, or how many. Rogues tend to fight hard, as they have nothign left to live for., they could be very strong fighters and we need to deal with them swiftly. The women and children here at Moss Point needed to be secured. Unless the woman was a trained warrior, they were not going to be allowed to fight. We don’t want to lose any pack members here, or from my pack. I was glad that Lee had his team here, and that he had brought their vehicle.

They already had the guns and ammunition needed to deal with this problem. I plan on making sure that none of the trespassing wolves, ever leave Moss Point. I knew it was pointless an hour later for us to all go back to our rooms. We had a tentative plan in the works, but the possibility of them giving a wrong time to lie to Mike keeps running through my head. He was serious when he called me. Clearly upset at what he had overheard, but it could all be part of Karla’s plan. I do not trust her at all, she is devious, and was willing to do anything to achieve her goal.

I laid next to Evie in bed, and she softly asked, “Jake, is everyone that comes onto our packland tomorrow going to be killed?”

“Yes, baby, they will. I cannot have Karla keep coming for you. I do not think that she will ever stop. She blames you for everything, when it was her own actions that got her and her family banned from Dark Marsh. Yet, she always manages to twist it around. Her friends should have been furious with her, not you. They were when they got banned from our pack. Yet they are willing to participate in this with her. Do not even think about feeling guilty, or bad for them. They have chosen to do this on their own. Whatever happens here tomorrow, it is on them, not you,” I told her.

I can feel how sad she is at the though of them being killed, but she knows that I am right. It is obvious to me now that Karla will have to be stopped. She will never leave us in peace, she will never leave us alone. I don’t know why she refuses to acknowledge her part in what happened, as she caused the whole issue. Evie never approached her, it was always Karla that instigated everything. Her plot against Evie has failed, and she is desperate now. She is not thinking clearly. That was the other part of what her father had told me. I do not want to scare Evie, so I will relay it to everyone else tomorrow.

I already told Beau and Lee in a mindlink that their job was to keep her safe. Lee’s men can keep an eye out for them when they arrive. I wanted them to be clear of the trees around the packland, and get a head count on all of them. I know Lane is the Alpha here, but it is my job to protect my mate, and I am going to do just that. I will speak with Lane in the morning to let him know my plan. We need to know how many we are dealing with before we let them know, that we are aware that they are here.

I already told Lee that I didn’t care as much about the rogues, as I did Karla, Steven, Aria, and Ashley. I wanted his men to deal with them specifically. The only way that they won’t be dealt with first, is if they sent the rouges in before them. Then we will have to deal with them first. I am going to ask Lane to have the Alphas that he reached out to send 15 warriors each. They will be told the area that they entered from, as it will also probably be the way they exit too. They will leave their vehicles there to run back to, so they can try to escape.

It is now 3 a.m. and I cannot shut my mind off. I keep making plans for today in my head. I will see what else Lane wanted to do when we meet up for breakfast in four hours. I can hear Evie’s soft breathing in my ear and I wrapped her tighter in my arms. I want this all taken care of up today. I do not want even one of them to be able to leave here. I will not allow Evie to have to live her life in fear of being attacked again. I listened to her breathing as I let her calm me back down. I am mad enough to kill them all right now. I just need to get some sleep to be at my best tomorrow. I kissed her forehead, and smiled as she sighed in her sleep. She snuggled closer, and I swore to the Goddess that no matter what, Karla and her group will be forever sorry that they refused to leave Evie alone. This was going to be the last mistake that any of them ever make.
