Chapter 545: She Will Make Her Pay

Joseph finally snapped out of it and quickly took the gauze from Olivia's hand. He layered it over the powdered wound and wrapped it up.

After finishing, Olivia went straight to the operating room door to wait.

The door to the operating room remained closed, but the door next to it opened.

Maggie walked out, her sleeve still rolled up, holding a cotton swab against her left arm.

Despite donating a significant amount of blood, Maggie's complexion remained unchanged, indicating her good physical condition.

Olivia had no desire to interact with this woman. She glanced at Maggie briefly before looking away, but Maggie walked straight toward her.

Maggie looked at Olivia with disdain. "So, you're his ex-wife?"

The tone was unfriendly, and Olivia couldn't help but frown. "I wasn't aware I needed to clear my relationship history with you."

Maggie sized Olivia up and down, then scoffed. "Please. You're like a walking skeleton. I can't imagine what he ever saw in someone like you."

It was clear Maggie looked down on Olivia.

Maggie despised women who depended on others. Olivia was undeniably beautiful, but everything about her irritated Maggie.

Most importantly, how could a woman like Olivia be worth Daniel risking his life for?

The two women stood together, and no one dared to intervene. Joseph quietly stepped back.

"I don't appreciate being scrutinized like this. If you have nothing better to do, don't bother me."

Olivia's tone was firmer than usual, having learned from past experiences that being too nice got her nowhere.

As soon as she finished speaking, Maggie let go of the cotton swab and slapped Olivia across the face.

"I've fought alongside Daniel for so long, and you think you can boss me around?"

Maggie's temper was fiery, and Olivia was sure that if it weren't for the doctors nearby, Maggie wouldn't hesitate to use force.

"Daniel has been on countless missions and always protected himself well. Who do you think you are to make him risk his life for you?"

In Maggie's eyes, no one was good enough for Daniel, especially not his ex-wife.

Olivia endured the pain in her cheek and retorted, "There aren't always reasons for everything. He loves me and is willing to risk his life for me. Are you jealous?"

Maggie, who had become a major at a young age and was never ignored in the military, was furious. "You think you deserve love? If he really loved you, why did he divorce you? Stop fooling yourself. You're just a pathetic nobody."

"People often disparage what they can't have. Ms. Jade, could it be that you have feelings for him?"

Olivia's cold gaze pierced Maggie. As a woman, she knew exactly what to say to hit Maggie's sore spot.

"Too bad, you probably won't get what you want."

Maggie's face twisted with anger, and she finally spat out, "Fine, just you wait."

With that, Maggie stomped off in her combat boots.

Olivia chose not to sit down, standing quietly in the hospital corridor, watching the doctors come and go, feeling a deep sadness.

The doctors acted like Olivia was invisible, deliberately avoiding her as if she carried a contagious virus.

Olivia bore their judgmental stares without flinching.

These people likely shared Maggie's sentiments. Daniel was an unattainable figure, yet Olivia, an ordinary person, had won his affection.

Doctors, nurses, even the lowest-ranking staff, all resented Olivia.

She silently endured it all.

Her coat was left in the car, and the hospital corridor was cold. The wind chilled her injured arm, making it tremble. She remained still and silent.

Joseph watched from a distance, feeling heartbroken. Isolation could crush a person's spirit. He approached her, trying to console her. "Olivia, you don't need to be here. Wesley is arranging for the kids and Lila to go to the island. You should go with them."

Olivia's voice was firm. "I'll leave, but not now."

Daniel was lying in the hospital, his fate uncertain. She couldn't just think of herself.

They had vowed to live and die together, to grow old together. Even though that promise no longer held, Olivia didn't want to break it.

"He got hurt because of me. Anyone else can leave, but I can't."

Joseph felt conflicted, sensing Olivia was trapped in a cycle of self-blame. "Daniel did this willingly. Don't feel guilty, Olivia."

"But it all started because of me."

Olivia clenched her fists, recalling the slap.

Maggie and Daniel were just colleagues. What right did she have to hit Olivia? It was clear Maggie couldn't stand Olivia's importance to Daniel. Beyond that, there was a deeper reason.

Maggie looked down on her.

Not just Maggie, but all the doctors in the military did.

Only now did Olivia realize how foolish her past choices were. If she hadn't lost herself in love and had continued her studies, she might have become an excellent doctor.

Doctors were always respected. If things had gone that way, these people wouldn't dare look down on her.

Sweat formed in Olivia's palms, her eyes filled with pain and resentment.

One day, she would reclaim everything she had lost and repay that slap.

As Olivia pondered, she heard footsteps behind her.

Maggie had changed into casual clothes and seemed unwilling to let Olivia off the hook. Her eyes burned with anger. "You wretch, if it weren't for saving you, Daniel wouldn't be so badly hurt."

Maggie's words were sharp, but Olivia acted as if she hadn't heard, remaining unaffected.

Everyone's attention was drawn to the two women. Olivia smirked at the furious Maggie, finding it somewhat amusing.

"He chose to get hurt for me. That has nothing to do with you."

Now that they stood face to face, the difference was clear.

Maggie was attractive, but compared to Olivia, she was nothing.

Olivia's delicate features were perfectly proportioned. Even if Maggie didn't want to admit it, standing before Olivia, she was struck by her beauty.
