Chapter 64: A switch
Aurora's POV
"You thought that I'll never get my pound of flesh after Matteo embarrassed and sent me out of the house because of you." She snarled, and snapped her fingers.
One of the guards who was with her left the room and came back with a chair for her to sit on, which got me wondering how she got those kinds of men to work for her after she was sent out from Matteo's house.
"It wasn't my fault that Matteo had eyes for me instead of you. You were old news and I loved him genuinely." I retorted sharply, not minding that I could be killed with just a snap or a nod.
"I wonder how he will feel if he discovers that you actually planned to kill him at first." She drawled, her annoying smirk coming to play.
Sofia gasped and I flashed her a pleading glance, but she shook her head in astonishment. "Who are you really, Aurora? First I found out that you are my cousin, next I'm discovering that you are a killer?" She yelled, then glared at Ginevra. "You won't leave here alive, Ginevra, Danilo will make sure of it." She threatened while I tried to shut her up.
Ginevra obviously wasn't sane, she hated me so much and also anyone related to me. I'd seen how she treated Giselle even though she didn't know about our relationship. She could decide to kill her first and I didn't want that to happen.
Giselle would lose a daughter, I would lose a cousin and Danilo a wife.
"Please keep quiet, Sofia, you are only endangering yourself. Allow me to handle this." I scolded her but she reacted by scoffing at them, pinning her most hateful stare at me.
"Sure! Go ahead and fix the mess you created, you liar."
Ginevra chuckled loudly, her thighs crossed as she relaxed on the chair, listening to our banters. "That's enough!" She raised her hand in the air sharply. "Why don't you take her away from here so that she wouldn't interrupt my discussion with Miss Mancini."
Sofia's eyes darted from her to me in fear. "No, please, don't let her take me away." She shrieked.
I had to step in to avoid them from taking her to another place that I wouldn't be able to watch over her. The men here were morally depraved, who knew what they would do to her if we weren't together.
"Ginevra, I promise that she will not say another word."
Ginevra snapped her fingers again and the huge man who was coming to take her retreated to his former position.
"Matteo would find me, Ginevra and he won't spare you." I reminded her firmly.
Surprisingly I wasn't scared that she was going to hurt me, I was only frightened because Matteo would find out the whole truth today and it wouldn't be in the manner I envisaged.
She laughed briefly then a scowl appeared on her face. "Matteo and I have a bond that you can't break no matter how hard you try. I've been the housekeeper of the Moretti's for over fifteen years and Matteo's lover for almost five years till his mother died in front of him after seeing the both of us having an intense lovemaking session. If I'd known that his mother's death would push him away from me then I wouldn't have poisoned her tea." She divulged nonchalantly, no flicker of remorse in her tone.
"You killed his mother?" My voice was shaky from the discovery.
"Yes I did. She was trying to show him love after rejecting him and I didn't want anyone to love him like I did so I had to kill her. I'd have also done the same to his father but his enemies were faster to do the deed."
The words left her lips without remorse and the only regret she had was not killing his father. What kind of insane love was that?
I admit that I had planned to kill Matteo, but that was when I didn't know him or love him with every fibre of my being. Presently I couldn't even watch him get hurt by anyone or do anything to hurt him.
"You are crazy, Ginevra. Matteo would never come back to you once he finds out that you killed his mother, he'll kill you too." I grimaced and the amusement left her face.
She jerked up her seat in order to hit me but the sound of gunshots stopped her in her tracks. I sucked in air and willed myself not to tremble in fear. Whoever shot that gun might either save me or be the end of me.
The door fell to the ground with a loud thud, two dead bodies falling alongside it. Ginevra stood behind two of her men who held out their guns in anticipation of the attacker. Then I moved closer to Sofia, shielding her with my body while I closed my eyes and waited for the inevitable to happen.
"Matteo?" I heard Ginevra mention and immediately my eyes flickered open and hope surged through me.
He found me to save me.
"Matteo.." I called, my eyes on him with a smile but he fixed his deadliest glare at me, causing my heart to sink in fear.
"Why… Why didn't you tell me?" He growled, advancing towards me with the most fluid but deadly steps.
"What are you talking about?" I whispered softly and he shot into the air twice and I flinched in surprise.
"Don't…" He inhaled deeply and looked away, when our eyes met again I saw distrust, sadness and disappointment. I'd failed him for sure. "Don't lie to me, Aurora." He demanded with a gruff voice.
"This isn't the reason for the kidnap, but since you are here let's just spill the whole truth, right, Aurora?" Ginevra chimed, walking happily as she returned to her seat.
The men didn't bother attacking Matteo since they knew who he was, instead they exchanged fearful glances.
"Matteo, allow me to explain please. Your father killed my parents and I was blinded by anger so I made wrong choices, but everything changed as soon as I fell in love with you." I explained, my voice shaky and shrill.
He scoffed, smiling sardonically. The Matteo I knew had disappeared and he was replaced with someone scary and unapproachable. With the stoic expression on his face and his cold eyes, he looked like the devil himself.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? Why did I have to find out by myself?" He asked quietly.
"I didn't know how to tell you because I didn't want to lose you, but I should have known better." I apologised, my eyes searching for any hint that he understood my plight but his expression remained the same.
He scooted to the ground, pinning me with his ferocious gaze that was hot enough to melt any rock.
"The only reason I won't kill you is because you've given your life for me before. From now on, you are no longer my girlfriend but my sex slave. You'll find out first hand what it means to be at the other side of my life." He concluded calmly while my mouth opened in disbelief, then he got up to his feet and shot the other men who guarded Ginevra.
