Chapter 270 End of the semester and goodbyes

Kael's pov

Nerezza looks back and grins at me and Aria before turning her attention back to her……mates……boyfriend and girlfriend.

Whatever the fuck they are.

Dean Gary enters. The man looks like he lost weight over night.

“Ladies and gentleman,” he starts. “I never thought I will be making a speech like this through out my life, but we lost thirty three people of Evermoor academy. I might have only been with you guys for a short while, but everyone had come to become close to my heart. These were our friends and colleagues and they died fighting to save everyone of us. I give you my word that they will be given the respect they deserve for fighting so bravely, whether they’re an omega or alpha or witch or vampire or other supernaturals present today.”

The dean looks at the councillors as if hesitant on how much he can say.

Everything is still uncertain but Thalric, Nerezza, Thallia and Vibe are still very much a part of the system that had tried to kill us in the first place.

“Tonight, I will write a statement to explain what happened and send it out to all parents and guardians, but I have decided we should end the semester here. I have already arranged transports to leave in the morning. Please go home, grieve, process and perhaps when we return next semester we can adapt to a new way of doing things.”

He says the last part while looking directly at Aria.

“I’m truly sorry that this happened to us, but I’m also proud of all of you, how you came together and worked together no matter our differences. There will be people available for you to talk to in the administration building, people that can help you come in terms with what happened. If you have someone to talk to at home, please do so. I wish each and everyone of us a very good holiday,” he nods and walk off the stage but the students remains quiet in their seats.

I know a little about the coucil but I can tell none of the students had ever witnessed their brutal side before.

“Let’s go home. I hadn’t slept well in days,” Alpha Rodericks says standing and offering Aria his hand.

And then the whole entourage stands.

I sigh and follow them and we all head back to my house.

Just as I drive into my driveway, fantasing about throwing every single guest out within the next hour, Professor Claude appears in front of us.

"For fuck's sake! What now? Please don't tell me you're joining the sleepover too."

God please. I can’t take more of this. I need to touch my mate badly.

Professor Claude laughs. “I've come to say goodbye. I've tied up everything I can here, and I'm more than ready to leave this place."

"Will you come back next semester?" Aria asks.

Claude snorts. "Absolutely not. I'm staying as far away from Evermoor as possible, for a very long time."

Aria slips from my side to hug him, and I let her go because the man earned it. He held lightning with his own body, helped save us, and nearly died doing it.

“Thank you,” Claude says over her head. “Both of you.”

When she steps back, he shakes Alpha Roderick's hand before facing the council members.

"You lot need a ride? I'm guessing you're all eager to check whether your families woke up too, now Benson is gone."

"Hell yes," Thalric answers.

I watch another round of hugs they have with Aria as if they are now all friends. Then Nerezza holds on to Aria’s hand, giving her that smile of hers.

"We'll never be able to thank you enough, my beautiful enigma," she says warmly. "You should come visit us soon."

"No," I growl.

Nerezza rolls her eyes. "Boys," she mutters before gently tapping Aria beneath the chin.

"We'll surely meet again, Blackthorn," Thalric says, as he wraps his arms around Nerezza’s waist. "You and Aria are the first fated mates since my parents. Infact you might be the ones looking for me first.”

I will rather die.

Just as Professor Claude is about to do his disappearing thing, he stops and snaps his fingers.

"Ah, right, Aria. I almost forgot."

He reached into his jacket and pulls out a small circular object, no bigger than the palm of his hand. It looked like an amulet of some sort carved from shiny gold metal. Before Aria can take it, I reach out first and collect it from him.

"Draven asked me to give this to you, Aria," Claude said.

I turned the thing over in my hand, studying the symbols etched into it.

"What is it?" Aria ask, leaning closer to inspect it. "And where is he? I haven’t seen him since the fire."

Claude shrugs. "He didn't say. The only thing he told me was…...He was finally going home."

None of us had the chance to ask another question as the six of them disappears.

I looked down at the strange amulet thing again, rolling it between my fingers.

It’s official.

I hate the bastard.

First, Draven had hinted that my mate needed to be kept away from the coucil by any means possible, knew things nobody else knew, climbed onto Lux’s back like he belonged there, broke his own damn curse after Aria's blood touched him, helped save the academy, refused to explain a damn thing, and now vanishes after leaving us with some mysterious piece of jewelry.

Something about the entire situation feels wrong.

I can’t explain it.

But atleast he and my unwelcome guests are gone and I can finally breathe.

Alpha Roderick walks past me and let himself into my house like he owns the damn place.

I sigh and follow.

I might still kill someone after all.
