Chapter 55
Darkous trudged through the trees, growing increasingly inpatient, where was the girl hiding? She couldn’t have made it this far out on foot, not without help.
But who would help Elika? Everyone here knew who she belongs to, and they wouldn’t dare go against the Dark lord. Not for anything she could offer them.
The demon within him surfaced, growls of fury filling his mind, “We can’t let her get away, she is ours.” It stammers, not used to allowing its voice out.
“I know.” Darkous snarls back, stopping in his tracks so that he could light up a cigarette.
He just needed to figure out which way she went, once he picked up on her tracks, he would find her easily. She wasn’t smart enough to cover her steps. She didn’t know how easily she was to find the first time back in her father dimension.
He would find her again, there would be no escape for her.
It was just a matter of time.
Darkous turned at the sound of snapping branches, Michael stepping out from between a cluster of several trees. He stops when he sees his commander, his entire body tending in fear.
He knew that he had failed, and no one fails the Dark lord and lives to tell the tale. He just hoped that their past would give him a free chance. He had never failed before, but the girl was slippery.
Darkous crushes the lit cigarette in his hand, “Where is she Michael?”
“She got away, there is no trace of where she could have gone. Nothing except the remains of a portal.” Michael steps forward, “Someone helped her, that is the only way she could have disappeared.”
Slow deep breaths, that is what the dark lord did, there was no need to lose his shit yet, not when he had a girl to find. She thinks that she has won this round, but what she doesn’t realise is that she has just made their reunion more painful for herself.
She should have surrendered. He might have gone easier on her if she got on her knees and begged for forgiveness.
And yet, she had fled the dimension, somehow managing to make it past the countless creatures he had sent to apprehend her.
She was a slippery little thing.
“Gather back at the house.” He orders, turning away from his old friend, “There is no need for concern, we will get her back. She won’t make it far on her own. No matter which realm she has gone to.”
Darkous knew that Hades would have something to say about her disappearance, he would call him out on his failure to catch her, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that he got her back, he couldn’t allow her to evade him.
Her soul, Body and mind belonged to him, and no matter how far she tries to run, she will always belong to him.
Darkous made it back to the house before everyone else, lighting a cigarette and taking a long draw before he leant against the front door, waiting.
He would come up with a new plan, send out teams to different realms, it may take days or weeks, maybe months, but he would find her.
Michael and Darren are the first to arrive, both of them look deflated, they know that they have failed, but it wasn’t entirely their fault.
Hades was right, Darkous underestimated the girls desperation to get away. That would not happen again.
He never makes the same mistake twice.
He hopes that she is enjoying her small victory, it was the only one she was ever going to get.
Once he got her back she would be locked away from the world, she would forget what freedom every felt like, he would make sure of it.
She would struggle to remember what happiness is, all she will know would be pain and suffering, her screams will haunt her for the rest of her days.
He would make sure of it.
“Michael,” Darkous calls, “Before the others arrive I want you find out who helped her, she cannot have escaped on her own.”
Michael nods slowly, “consider it done.”
Darkous looks up at the dark sky, smiling wickedly, “I am coming for you, little princess. Don’t forget me.”
