Chapter 62: Questions

Blake’s room was at the end of the second floor with a sceptical view of the forest. It was a bit of a walk to his room, given this place was huge and had enough bedrooms to house a small village. Blake explained that the mansion was once a packhouse and catered for over 150 people. However, once they bought the town and the pack grew, everyone scattered around, leaving the mansion for just the Alpha and his family. Since Blake was the King of the East, he had his own place, but Sue insisted we stay with them while I was learning the ropes, so we didn’t have to go back and forth.

As I got closer to the bedroom, the anticipation of what was going to happen next had me shaking a little. I rubbed my arm, trying to get rid of the goosebumps forming. I took the last few steps and stood in front of the semi-open door, peeking in through the crack to see where Blake was.

I couldn’t see any movement. Rocky did say he was here. Pushing the door open more, I poked my head in. As far as I could see, the room was empty. Where was Blake?

Mustering up as much courage as I could, I walked into the room and looked around in the spots I missed. The shower wasn’t going, the balcony was empty, and so was the closet. He wasn’t anywhere.

I let out a sigh of relief. The trouble hadn’t passed, but it had been postponed.

*Should I call him?*

That thought had me looking around for my phone. I had put it in my purse when we left for the church this morning.

Shït! I left my purse in Blake’s car. Now what?!

“You okay?” Blake’s voice made me jump.

I turned around to find him leaning against the bedroom door with his arms crossed.

“You promised you wouldn’t do that. I have a human heart that isn’t as strong as yours” I put my hand over my chest, trying to calm my racing heart.

“You’re half-werewolf, Angel. Your heart is stronger than you think.” He strolled towards me.

Blake was wearing a pair of black sweatpants and a black vest, not his usual attire. Something about Blake was very off.

“You okay?” He stood two steps away from me.

Another unusual action.

“Yeah, I’m okay. How did things go with Alpha Morris?” I cleared my throat, trying to get rid of the lump forming.

“He wants blood, but I’m sure there’s a misunderstanding. Once he calms down, I’ll go see him again,” Blake replied casually, stuffing his hands into his pocket.

“Did you know about all this? About the bloodline, Richard came from? About the curse?”

“Morris mentioned it when I went to see him,” Blake replied casually again.

“And you didn’t bother to tell me?”

“You were already so upset. I didn’t want to add to your pain. Besides, if the curse had been triggered like Morris says it has, why is he still alive? Why didn’t things start going wrong the moment you were born? Curses don’t wait for a certain time to start working. As soon as a catalyst is added, it should start the reaction. There’s no way Richard’s death is connected to you.”

“So maybe Max is right.” I blurted.

“Is he now?” Blake raised his eyebrow and tilted his head to the side.

“I mean, he mentioned that Morris could be lying because there wasn’t any chatter about this curse” I chose my words wisely.

“Hmm, interesting. I’ll get dad to talk to the coven. See if they’ve heard something” Blake looked into the distance.

“You don’t want to talk to Max? I mean, he is a powerful warlock. Maybe he can help?” I chewed the inside of my cheek, hoping I wasn’t overstepping.

I knew Blake didn’t want Max involved, but I had to get them to work together. What I didn’t want to do was get on Blake’s bad side in my attempts to make that happen.

“One car ride with the guy, and your already singing his praises, huh? Aren’t you a good friend” Blake snickered.

He did hear the conversation between Max and me.

“Blake, it’s no-...” Blake raised his hand and cut me off.

“I’ll talk to him. I’m not going to fight with you over this. That’s what he wants. To create friction between us so he can sweep in and be the better man.”

Was Blake right? Is that what Max was trying to do? He knew I was taking a risk by being his friend, and he knew it would cause an argument between Blake and me.

“He's using me to get to you,” I exclaimed.

“That’s what he does, Angel. He manipulates people for his use. As much as he wants to be your mate, he knows he has to destroy our relationship first.” Blake walked over and grabbed my hand, gently rubbing it.

“He made me believe he wanted to be my friend, and like the idiot I am, I believed him,” I whispered.

“Angel, that’s just who he is. I know he's nice to you and shows as he cares, but deep down, he only does things to benefit himself. He doesn’t care who gets hurt or how it ruins things. He just needs to come out on top” Blake wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close.

I put my head on his chest and hugged him tightly.

Why did I believe him?!

“I’m sorry, baby,” I croaked, holding back tears.

“Shhh, Angel. It’s okay. You do not have to apologize for that asshöle.” Blake cooed abs rubbed my back.

“You’re mine, Angel. Only mine. My world starts with you and ends with you. Nothing can separate us.”

A wave of nausea hit me. I shivered a little. A chill went down my spine, making me close my eyes and take deep breathes. It was going to pass.

Blake noticed my reaction and tightened his arm around my waist.

“You okay?”

“No,” I replied, holding on to Blake.

I was feeling nauseated now. It wasn’t going away.

My body suddenly became hot, and I was having trouble breathing. My stomach churned, and I felt dizzy.

“Angel, what’s wrong?!” Blake held me at arm's length, moving my hair out of my face.

“I-... I don’t know..” I stuttered as I felt my knees give way.

Blake grabbed me tightly and, in one swift motion, picked me up and carried me to the bed.

“Angel, talk to me. What’s going on?” He sounded panic as he put me on the edge of the bed to sit.

I felt my chest tighten more, and before I could reply, the darkness consumed me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*“I’ve sent her blood for testing. Everything looks normal.”

“Then what’s wrong with her?!”*

The voices were loud and close. I was so consumed in the darkness; it was impossible to find a way out. I tried to shake my head so that I could find a way out.

“Doc, she’s waking up,” Blake’s voice interrupted the chattering.

A warmth engulfed my hand, erupting a series of sparks across my body.

I fought the darkness, and finally, after multiple attempts, I managed to open my eyes, letting the brightness from the surroundings blind me momentarily.

I blinked a few times before my vision cleared, revealing all the worried faces looking down at me. Blake was in the closet, sitting right next to me, holding my hand.

I propped up on my elbows and tried to sit up. Blake quickly put his arm behind me and helped me sit up.

“What’s going on?” I asked. My voice was scratchy. I swallowed, trying to hydrate my dry throat.

“You passed out, Angel. How are you feeling?” Blake replied. He looked worried and distorted.

“A little weak, but I’m okay. Can I have something to drink, please?”

In a flash, Theresa was standing next to me with a glass of water. I gave her a tight smile and took the glass from her hand. I didn’t realize how thirsty I was until the cold liquid touched my tongue. I quickly drowned the fluid and gave the empty glass back to Theresa.

“How long was I out?” I looked around at all worried faces.

Everyone was here, huddled around the bed I was on. Only one person was missing, and I figured it was probably because he wasn’t welcome.

“Maybe an hour. Doc says it couldn’t just be exhaustion. They’ve taken some bloods just to make sure you're okay,” Blake explained, gently rubbing the back of my hand.

I nodded and looked down at my free hand, picking on the loose strand of string.

I still felt a little nauseous, but it wasn’t as bad as before. My head was pounding, and my body ached. Maybe the dramas from today had taken a toll on my fragile body. I hadn’t really eaten much today either. I held on to Blake’s hand tightly, trying to find comfort.

Blake got off his seat and picked me up bridal style before sitting on the bed with me on his lap. I knew he could smell my anxiety. I wrapped my arms around him and snuggled into his arms, letting his heartbeat and warm touch calm my nerves.

Right at that moment, the door opened, and to my surprise, the person missing in the room walked in.

“Nice of you all to tell me Rosy was unwell,” Max growled as he walked towards the bed.

“It was intentional,” Blake snapped, tightening his arms around me.

“Of course it was. I have a right to know Blake! You can’t jus-...”

“Max...” I croaked. All eyes turned to me.

“Please. Not now.” I pleaded.

Max clenched his jaws and stared at me. His eyes were searching for something on my face.

“I’m okay. Just shut up and stand over there somewhere” I rolled my eyes and snuggled back into Blake.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling Blake’s scent. It wasn’t his usual cologne that was tantalizing. For some reason, today, there was another scent that I was finding very soothing and attractive about Blake.

I was lost in that scent, clinging on to the warmth and safety Blake was offering. He was the light, and I was the moth attracted to his shine.

The door opened again, and the doctor walked in with a clipboard in his hands.

He walked up to the bed and stood next to us with a smile on his face.

“King Cooper, Luna Rosalie,” the doctor bowed before turning to Nate.

“Alpha Cooper, Luna Sue. Good to see you too” he bowed for them and then turned back towards me.

“How are you feeling now, Luna?” The doctor tucked the clipboard under his arm.

I straightened up a little but stayed in Blake’s arms.

“I’m okay. I do have a headache and still, feel nauseous. Will that pass?”

The doctor chuckled before giving me a knowing smile.

“It will pass in about 12-13 weeks.”

“What? Why that long? Is something wrong?” I looked up at Blake, who was just as confused.

“Luna, you’re pregnant,” he gushed.

“Wha-... what?!” Both Blake and I exclaimed together.

“You’re three weeks pregnant. Congrats!” The doctor cheered.

Gasps and whispers filled the room.

The doctor looked around, confused as to why everyone was so stunned.

I couldn’t breathe. It felt like the air had been knocked out of my lungs.

*Pregnant?! Me?!*

How was that possible?! We hadn’t finished the mating yet. Besides, Blake was sterile.

Blake’s hands tightened around my arms, bringing me back to reality.

I looked up at his pale face. He was equally as shocked.

“Yo-... you’re pregnant?!” Blake stuttered.

I tried to swallow the lump forming in my throat.

“How?!” His eyes searched mine for answers. Answers I didn’t have.

Blake’s wet, shocked eyes held a hint of another emotion that made my stomach churning more then it already was.

*Betrayal*...

God, did he think I had cheated?!

Blake was asking a crucial question. A question everyone in the room was silently asking.

*How was I pregnant?!*...
