Chapter 55: The feeling of rejection 2
Kayla's pov
I opened the closet door, the warm scent of my clothes wafting out to greet me. I pulled out my favorite pajamas, the soft fabric comforting in my hands. I slipped them on, the familiarity of the clothing bringing me a sense of ease. I looked back in the mirror, feeling more like myself than I had in a while. I took a deep breath, ready to face the day, ready to tackle whatever it threw at me. I was ready to live my life, to make the most of every moment.
I lay down on the bed, sinking into the soft sheets. I closed my eyes, but sleep evaded me. My mind was racing, the events of the past few weeks playing on repeat in my head. I tossed and turned, trying to find a comfortable position. Finally, after what felt like hours, I drifted off to sleep, my body finally giving in to exhaustion. I slept fitfully, my dreams filled with images of the past and the future.
Louis's pov
I stood there, rooted to the spot as Kayla walked away from me. I felt the pain of rejection course through my body, a pain that was so deep it took my breath away. I wanted to call out to her, to beg her to stay, but I couldn't find the words. All I could do was watch as she disappeared from view, my heart breaking into a million pieces. I felt numb, like my world had been turned upside down.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned to see my beta standing there, his eyes full of compassion and understanding. I could see the pain in his eyes, the same pain that I was feeling. He knew what it was like to be rejected by a mate, and he knew that there was nothing that could be said or done to make the pain go away. But he was there for me, and that was all that mattered.
I turned and headed to my study, trying to distract myself from the pain with work. I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop, but I couldn't focus on the documents in front of me. All I could think about was Kayla, and the fact that she was gone. I felt like a part of me had been ripped out, and I didn't know how to go on. But I had to, for the sake of my pack.
I pushed myself to start working, determined to focus on the tasks at hand. I read through the reports, making notes and highlighting important points. But no matter how hard I tried, my mind kept wandering back to Kayla. I could see her face, hear her laugh, and feel her touch. It was like she was still with me, and I felt like marking her as my mate. I tried to push her from my mind, but she was like a ghost that wouldn't leave me.
I looked up from my computer screen, blinking in surprise. I couldn't believe that it was already midnight, and I had been working for hours. I felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me, and I realized that I was too tired to keep going. I closed my laptop and made my way to my bedroom, desperate for some sleep. But as I lay in bed, I knew that sleep would be elusive. All I could think about was Kayla, and the hole she had left in my heart.
I could see it in her eyes. She was indeed here because of our children, not because of anything else. She had made it clear that there was no lovers relationship between us, and that there was no going back. I knew that she was right, I don't expect her to like me overnight after I left her in the past, but it didn't make the pain any easier to bear. I knew that I had to accept it, but it was one of the hardest things I had ever done. My heart was broken, and I didn't know how to put the pieces back together.
I pushed myself up from the chair in the study, my muscles stiff and sore from sitting for so long. I made my way to the door, my footsteps heavy on the wooden floor. I reached for the door handle, my hand trembling slightly. I opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, the sounds of the palace growing louder as I left the room. I took a deep breath and started walking, my mind racing as I thought about what I had to do next but for some reason, I didn't want to bother myself about anything
As I walked down the hall, I passed by the portraits of my ancestors that hung on the walls. They seemed to stare at me, their eyes following me as I walked by. It was like they were judging me, like they knew what I had done, it felt like they were telling me that I don't deserve her love, But I ignored them and kept walking, my footsteps echoing on the marble floor. The servants I passed bowed their heads and murmured greetings, but I barely noticed them. My mind was focused on one thing and one thing only
I finally reached my room, and I shut the door behind me.
I pushed open the door and made my way to the bathroom, my clothes feeling hot and sticky from the day's activities. I turned on the water, letting the cool liquid cascade down my body. I let myself sink into the tub, the water soothing my aching muscles. I closed my eyes and let my mind wander, trying to forget about the events of the day. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake the thoughts that plagued me, i should focus on other things and not only think about her, I had to also be an Alpha to my pack
