Chapter 261: Sebastian's lies

Anastasia

“W-what is happening in here?” their mom stuttered, horrified at the sight before her. “How come all three of you like this girl? When did she bewitch your hearts while pretending to be a maid? Was that her plan all along?”

I wanted to speak up but was interrupted by their dad.

“I’m disappointed in you all,” he comments looking in their direction. “How can you come to like her? I don’t understand at all! She’s not suitable to be the future Luna of this pack! Why don’t you understand?”

“On what grounds are you saying she’s not suited?” Leon retorted, looking in his direction. “She’s more than eligible to be the Luna. You don’t see it because you hate her.”

“Obviously we would hate her!” his mom yelled. “She’s a murderer! Her pack doesn’t want to accept her anymore. They have cut ties with her. Where will our reputation go if other packs find out she’ll become the Luna of our pack? Can you imagine how big of a scandal that will be?”

“And yet, we are prepared to face anything for her!” Nikolai stated, holding onto my other hand. “Am I right boys?”

“Yeah, that’s true,” Leon replied with a smirk.

Sebastian stood in front of me facing his parents.

“Mom, Dad, I think it’s finally the time when you let go of the past and learn to accept her for who she is truly. Don’t let her past decide her future. She has saved all of us, and we are grateful for that. I hope you’ll accept our feelings for her. That’s all, I can ask of you.”

“Even if your mom accepts her, I will never accept her! You are asking for the impossible,” his dad stated, before rushing past from their mom’s side to go towards his room.

“Who said I was going to accept her?” his mom grunted, glaring at me. “She might’ve been a princess before, but now she’s a maid in our house. There’s a lot of difference in our social status for us to accept her. I hope you all realize this as soon as possible, it’s for your good.”

“Mom–“ Sebastian tried to speak up but his mom left in a hurry after their dad.

“Why are the two of them so unreasonable? I really hate that!” Sebastian scoffed, fisting his hands.

“You can’t help it, they have been always stubborn,” Nikolai replied, glancing in my direction. “Sorry, you had to see all that. I wish they would stop being so aggressive towards you.”

“Well, that’s their true nature. You can’t do anything about it,” I replied. “You don’t need to apologize for it. I’m sorry, you all had to argue with their parents because of me. I didn’t want this at all.”

“What are you apologizing for? It’s their fault they don’t like you,” Sebastian added, turning to me.

“But, what are we going to do now after this?” Leon asked, “How can we change their mind to accept her into our pack? I don’t want her to face criticism every day from the two of them. It’ll be unbearable for me to see.”

“I can’t see that as well,” Nikolai added, dropping his shoulders. “I’ll not accept my mate to be insulted by my parents. She’s as important to me as them.”

I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by Nikolai’s feelings. The mate bond made me realize how honest he was about his words.

“But, how did you turn out to be her mate when I confessed to her first?” Sebastian asked, looking at Nikolai all confused.

“It’s nothing but fate,” Nikolai answered proudly, “We were meant to be together.”

Sebastian lowered his gaze, looking a bit disappointed. “It’s not fair I couldn’t be your mate. It’s really not fair.”

I knew Sebastian wouldn’t like this matter.

“I know why that happened,” Leon replied.

Everyone looked at him when he said that.

He looked in my direction. “It’s because our confessions weren’t honest. There is still something that we are hiding from her. And unless we come clean, we can’t feel the mate bond.”

“What? What are you–“

“Sebastian and I are hiding something from you that we haven’t told you yet. And until we do that I don’t think our mate will recognize you as our mate.”

Hiding something from me? Is this even true?

I looked at Sebastian’s face. He seemed a bit guilty as well.

What are they hiding from me that I’m not aware of?

“Do you want to tell her about it? Or will I go alone?” Leon asked, looking at Sebastian.

Does Nikolai know about it?

I glanced at him, and he looked quite calm about all this.

Then, he knows about it as well.

“No, I’ll say it,” Sebastian fretted. “I’ll say it. There’s no need to hide it anymore.”

Leon came forward and stood in front of me next to Sebastian.

“This is about the time when we brought you here,” Sebastian spoke. “I noticed that Nikolai was starting to get attached to you. I became angry to see that because we brought you here to teach you a lesson because you insulted us. I warned him not to have feelings towards you or fall for you because you are our enemy. But,” he looked in Nikolai’s direction.

“When he tried to avoid you, you were the one who approached him this time. Seeing him hug you in the garden that night, I thought you were getting too full of yourself so I wanted to teach you a lesson.”

That time when Nikolai was avoiding me, it was because of Sebastian? I totally thought he hated me being around him.

“That’s why,” he lowered his gaze, fisting his hands. His eyes filled with guilt and anger. “I conspired with the head maid and told her to give a day off to all the maids calling it a sick leave. So, you’ll know they are sick, and all the work will fall onto your shoulders. I thought, if you were too busy with work, you would stop interacting with Nikolai. And that would create distance between you while teaching you a lesson as well. Hitting two birds with one stone. I’m such a genius, I thought.”

They weren’t sick for real? Did he conspire all that with Julie?

“The first two days went smoothly, but when the workload took a toll on you, you were the one who became sick for real. You had a fever and couldn’t get out of bed. The head maid complained about my plan and said she’d never do anything I’d say in the future. And seeing you sick, I was regretting my decision as well. When you were sick, I went to your room that night to check on you. And you fell into my arms unconscious. Seeing you, I promised myself I would never try to hurt you again out of selfishness. And would watch over you from a distance. I thought you might hate me for it. That's why, I didn't tell you about it when I confessed to you. I'm sorry for deceiving you and hiding the truth. You can hate me for it, I don't mind. I deserve it anyway."
