Chapter 83 How Much Did She Hide

Emily frowned. She'd just found out about James's background yesterday, and now someone had already spilled the beans.

Was this just a coincidence or something planned?

Emily kept scrolling and saw another post from QuickIntel.

QuickIntel: [Curious about James's love life? I'll spill the tea at 8 PM tonight.]

Emily had just walked into Johnson Group when the chief secretary, Elizabeth, called her over.

Elizabeth gave her a warm smile. "Here are the collaboration materials with Smith Group. Take a good look at them."

Emily skimmed through the documents and noticed the elegant handwriting, which matched Elizabeth's graceful vibe.

It seemed like Elizabeth was trying to be friendly. Emily gave her a knowing look. "You know who I am, don't you?"

Elizabeth smiled elegantly, "Of course. I've worked for Mr. Johnson for years and know him well. He loves Mrs. Johnson deeply and would never cheat. Recently, Mr. Johnson found his long-lost daughter, which caused quite a stir online, even though her appearance wasn't revealed. But with a bit of analysis, it's clear that you are Mr. Johnson's daughter."

"Thanks for the info," Emily said, closing the documents and sincerely thanking her.

She knew Johnson Group well and had secretly helped them a lot over the years.

"It seems Mr. Johnson is keen on grooming you," Elizabeth subtly touched her lower abdomen.

Emily noticed and blinked.

"Emily, Mr. Johnson has some matters to attend to, so I'll get back to work," Elizabeth said, walking away in her high heels.

Emily headed back to the CEO's office to grab the prepared collaboration contract.

The scene of Emily and Elizabeth chatting happily was witnessed by the staff in the CEO's office, and their gazes towards Emily changed.

Especially Ella, who looked at Emily with eyes full of hatred.

Just thinking about yesterday's incident made her feel humiliated. Today, her colleagues looked at her mockingly.

She realized that Emily had reached this position because of her strong background. Since that was the case, she decided to find a man with a strong background herself, and she had already chosen Robert.

Although David was good-looking, he was elderly and married. But Robert was different; he was young, handsome, elegant, and wealthy.

She aimed for marriage, unlike those short-sighted women who were satisfied with being mistresses.

Thinking of this, Ella looked at Emily with disdain.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up. If Mia found out that David had a mistress, wouldn't Emily be kicked out?

Emily, after picking up the contract, noticed Ella's strange gaze.

Just as she was about to leave, she heard Ella's sarcastic remark, "Emily, you're really something. First, you pleased Mr. Scott, and now you're trying to please James. Can you teach us how to please them?"

Emily walked up to Ella, her gaze deliberately lingering on Ella's tightly buttoned shirt for a few seconds, seeing her face change, and then smiled, "Do you need me to teach you? Didn't you use your tricks quite well yesterday?"

Mentioning yesterday's incident, Ella snapped, her face darkening with anger. "Emily, you're just a newbie who got this position through connections. Without them, you wouldn't be here."

Emily snorted, staring her down. "I don't want to hear that again. If I hear it from you or anyone else, I'll make your life miserable."

"You!" Ella pointed at Emily, too furious to form a sentence.

"Don't point at me. If you know I have connections, you should know better than to mess with me," Emily said, pushing her hand away. "You've been here for years and still don't get it. No wonder you're just an ordinary secretary."

Ella trembled with rage but couldn't come up with a comeback.

By the time she thought of something to say, Emily had already left and headed to the CEO's office.

Knocking and entering, she saw Robert deep in his work.

Seeing Emily, Robert immediately paused and looked up. "What brings you here? Is there a problem at work?"

Emily shook her head. "No, I just need your help to investigate someone."

Robert asked, "Who?"

Emily replied, "Sophia."

Robert, recalling the Twitter message his assistant showed him today, narrowed his eyes. "Are you worried about James?"

Emily shook her head. "No."

Robert inquired, "Then what?"

Emily hesitated, biting her lip, unsure how to tell Robert about the letter Ava left behind.

There had to be a secret behind Owen insisting on marrying Sophia and then jumping off a building on their wedding day.

And the only person to investigate was Sophia, who wasn't from the Brown Family.

Robert sighed inwardly and said, "Alright, if you don't want to say, I won't ask."

Emily snapped out of her thoughts and thanked Robert.

At 10 AM, James arrived at the meeting room with his assistant, Aaron Hill, and was momentarily stunned upon seeing Emily.

Emily looked exceptionally beautiful today, different from before.

James had seen her many times, but this new, confident Emily still shocked him.

It was Aaron's first time seeing Emily like this, and he was a bit taken aback.

The previously meek and submissive Emily, who had always tried to please James, was now radiant and confident.

If Emily hadn't spoken, he wouldn't have recognized her.

Emily hadn't been to Smith Group recently, and James had been very moody, which Aaron suspected was related to Emily. Now it seemed he was right.

After they sat down, Emily and James shook hands politely and began discussing today's agenda.

Emily's eloquence left Aaron wide-eyed. If he hadn't seen it himself, he wouldn't believe that Emily could transform so drastically in such a short time.

As Emily delved deeper into the discussion, James's expression grew serious. He stared at her, scrutinizing her intently.

After they got married, Emily had mentioned wanting to work at Smith Group, but he had dismissed her, thinking she had ulterior motives.

Although her presentation had some minor errors, they were insignificant.

He had truly underestimated her.

James reached into his pocket, touching the small box inside, wondering how many secrets of hers he didn't know.
