Chapter 69: Sanatorium
Olivia hit the call button, taking her sweet time.
The medical staff rushed in. Seeing Nicholas losing it, they quickly gave him a sedative.
The sedative kicked in, and Nicholas started to calm down, eventually drifting off to sleep.
Just then, Abigail came back with some food. Before she could even set it down, Olivia hugged her tight. "Mom, I was so scared. I couldn't get Nicholas to calm down at all."
She looked up, her face streaked with tears, a red, swollen handprint standing out on her cheek.
That slap must've been brutal.
Abigail glanced at Nicholas on the bed and the mess on the floor, gasping, "Did Nicholas do this?"
Olivia nodded. "Yeah, Mom. I think Dad passing the family business to Nicholas is a bad idea. The doctor just said Nicholas might have bipolar disorder. When it flares up, he can get violent and crazy."
Abigail was stunned, murmuring, "How could this happen?"
Olivia pointed to her face, sobbing, "Isn't this proof enough? If the medical staff hadn't stopped him, Nicholas might've hit me even harder. Both my baby and I could've been in danger. It's one thing if I'm hurt, but if I lose the baby, the Smith Family won't let it slide."
Abigail felt a wave of anxiety. She remembered a few days ago when James brought Sophia over to break off the engagement and handed her a lot of money. Before leaving, he told her to take good care of Olivia and the baby.
Even though James didn't want to marry Olivia, he still cared about her.
Plus, after leaving Jackson Manor, James awarded the Jackson Group a major business deal, clearly for Olivia's sake.
If something happened to Olivia's baby, James would never forgive whoever was responsible.
Thinking about this, Abigail looked at Olivia, unsure. "What should we do then?"
Olivia had already thought it through and shared her plan. "Let's send Nicholas to a sanatorium. They'll take good care of him, and it'll help with his condition."
Abigail shook her head, "No way!"
Olivia asked, "Mom, what are you worried about?"
Abigail said, "If Nicholas goes to a sanatorium, what happens to the Jackson Family?"
Even now, Abigail was still worried about the family assets. Olivia sneered inside.
"We can tell Dad that Nicholas is going abroad for leg treatment. Once he's stable at the sanatorium, we can bring him back," Olivia coaxed.
After thinking it over, Abigail finally nodded. "Okay."
"I'll handle the transfer now," she said as she left the room, completely unaware of the tears streaming down Nicholas's face.
Olivia watched for a moment before stepping forward to gently wipe away his tears, speaking softly, "Nicholas, be good at the sanatorium. Don't worry, I'll visit you regularly."
The nurse who had just come in had been bribed by Olivia. The injection given to Nicholas wasn't a sedative but a paralyzing drug.
Nicholas had heard every word of her conversation with Abigail.
Olivia was a pro at these kinds of schemes.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed.
Seeing the caller ID, Olivia's face changed a bit. She stepped aside to take the call. "Hello, what's up?"
The voice on the other end said, "Olivia, Harper's been rescued."
Hearing that, Olivia's nails dug into her palm. She'd planned this for ages, and it still fell apart.
Harper was someone Emily cared about. If something happened to Harper, Emily would be devastated, and Olivia would be thrilled.
After all, that person had gone nuts after Harper went abroad. Olivia had gone through a lot to track them down, and now it was all for nothing!
Olivia was fuming.
Maybe because she was so worked up, the baby kicked her belly, snapping her back to reality.
"Got it. Clean up everything and make sure no one finds out," Olivia ordered.
If Nicholas was a lost cause, she'd find someone else to help her.
What Olivia didn't know was that Eric had already tapped this call.
The psycho who kidnapped Harper hadn't left any clues, but Eric found a suspicious call in the recovered records.
He immediately told Emily, who asked him to keep an eye on the number.
The call was encrypted and super short. While Eric couldn't pinpoint the exact person, he narrowed down the area.
He quickly called Emily. "Emily, the location is at the hospital."
Emily asked, "Which hospital?"
Eric replied, "Evergreen Hospital."
"Got it," Emily hung up, already having a hunch.
She thought, 'Why would Olivia go after Harper instead of me?'
Thinking it over, Emily couldn't figure it out.
After a moment, Emily went to the study to find David, who was still working. "Dad."
"Emily, what brings you here?" David put down his work and looked at her warmly.
"I wanted to ask if there's any solid evidence from the previous investigation into the sex trade?" Emily got straight to the point. If someone hurt her friend, she wouldn't hesitate to fight back!
David looked at Emily seriously, not answering directly but instead patting the chair next to him, changing the subject. "Sit down, I have something to discuss with you."
Emily sat next to David, looking puzzled. "What is it?"
"I want you to take charge of the collaboration with the Smith Group," David had been mulling over this decision for days but wasn't sure how to bring it up with Emily.
He trusted Emily's skills, which was why he had this idea. But considering Emily and James's history, he wasn't sure if she should handle it.
He asked, "Are you up for it?"
Emily's face remained expressionless. She smiled faintly at David, "Of course, I am."
David sighed inwardly at Emily's smile. He lovingly patted her head. "If you don't want to, I can assign someone else. You don't have to force yourself."
"No need, Dad. James and I are over. Don't worry about me," Emily said calmly.
In truth, Emily was hesitant. She didn't want too much contact with James, but David's suggestion showed there was no one more suitable than her.
