Chapter 144: 144
"Stop with this useless stuff, idealism won't get you your job back!"
Raymond, who had called back at some point, handed the phone to Vivienne. "She is young and impulsive, throwing a tantrum. I'll have her talk to you again."
"No need!"
Three different voices spoke simultaneously, and Ava on the other end immediately recognized Amelia's voice. "Amelia?! You know Vivienne? No wonder..."
Clearly, she thought that Vivienne's refusal to accept her bribe was instigated by Amelia.
Vivienne glanced at Amelia in surprise; she hadn't expected the two of them to know each other.
Amelia ignored everyone and just gestured for Vivienne to check her phone.
Vivienne, puzzled, opened her phone and found a new email from an international address.
She looked at Amelia in confusion, then opened the email. The more she read, the more surprised she became, until she saw the signature and couldn't help but exclaim.
Vivienne, holding her phone, alternated between covering his mouth in excitement and pointing at the phone, excitedly saying to Amelia, "It's...it's Rowen!"
Amelia smiled and nodded, "Yes, congratulations."
Raymond, seeing the usually stubborn student so excited he could barely speak, grew anxious. "What's on the phone? Just say it! You're killing me!"
Vivienne, unable to speak, simply handed the phone to him.
Raymond looked down curiously, and soon his eyes widened, and he was silent for a long time.
The young nurse who had been relaying messages to Vivienne bravely asked, "Dr. Carter, what is it?"
Raymond snapped out of it, looking at Vivienne in amazement. "I can't believe it, you have such luck!"
His reaction made everyone around curious, even the usually stern deputy director showed interest. "Raymond, what is it?"
"She has been accepted as a student by Professor Rowen!"
When Amelia learned that Vivienne was facing expulsion from Serenity University, she sent the girl's information to her research team abroad and used the fast-track application process to get her into Celestial University.
As for the application materials, Amelia had noticed the densely packed study abroad applications on Vivienne's desk as soon as she entered the office, and coincidentally, her target was Celestial University.
Raymond's slightly jealous remark caused an uproar in the office.
"Who did you say? Rowen?! Did I hear that right?!"
"Dr. Carter, you must have received a scam message. Be careful not to click on anything, or you'll lose your money."
"What a joke!" Raymond scoffed at the idea, "This was sent from Celestial University's official account. How could I not recognize it?"
"Dr. Carter, it's not that we don't believe you," Freya, standing at the back of the crowd, spoke softly, "It's just that everyone knows Professor Rowen only leads teams, he doesn't take on students. Otherwise, we wouldn't have heard nothing about him for so many years."
Everyone then remembered that Freya had once been determined to become Professor Rowen's student. When she found out he wasn't accepting students, she applied to join his team, but never even received a rejection letter.
Hearing this, Raymond hesitated.
Could it really be a prank?
"Why not call and ask?"
The young nurse, not understanding the complexities between the doctors, suggested.
Vivienne, now calm, felt cornered by everyone's stares and had no choice but to call Celestial University's official number in front of them.
As the phone rang, Vivienne felt an unprecedented calm. All her preparations for studying abroad were finally paying off, and she quickly explained her situation.
"Ms. Mae, this is true. Professor Rowen personally sent an email to the admissions office."
"And, the professor is not currently at the university. Your classes will be temporarily handled by members of his research team. The professor apologizes for this and hopes you don't mind."
"I don't mind at all!"
Vivienne felt a bit disappointed not to meet Professor Rowen in person, but she didn't mind at all! Members of Professor Rowen's team were all highly esteemed individuals! How could she be so lucky to interact with the entire team?
Hearing Vivienne's excitement, the staff member laughed, "Then I wish you a pleasant learning experience."
"By the way, the professor mentioned you were in some trouble, so the process was expedited. Good luck."
The call ended, and it was as if the mute button had been pressed in the room.
After a minute, a sharp, static-filled scream broke the silence. "How can an intern become Professor Rowen's student?!"
Raymond, startled by the scream, realized he hadn't hung up the phone after the call and had put it in his pocket. The voice belonged to a young pregnant patient.
He hurriedly fumbled to end the call.
The commotion brought everyone back to reality, and various complex looks were directed at Vivienne, with some glancing subtly at Freya.
After all, Freya had been vocal about wanting to join Professor Rowen's team since graduate school, but after all these years, there had been no news, and now Vivienne had beaten her to it.
It must have been hard for her.
Freya, feeling the stares, clenched her hands in her uniform pockets but maintained a calm facade.
Vivienne, now realizing that Amelia had stopped her from apologizing and had reminded her to check her phone, seemed to have known she would receive the email from Celestial University.
And how did Professor Rowen know she was in trouble?
Could it be...
"Amelia, you..." Vivienne hesitated.
Amelia, knowing what Vivienne wanted to ask, smiled slightly. "I know him. I told him about your situation."
No problem, she knew the president of Celestial University and introduced Vivienne, an excellent student, to him. How others interpreted it was their business.
As for her new student, she would find out the truth when Amelia taught her as Professor Rowen.
Vivienne, misled by Amelia's vague explanation, sighed in relief. "So that's how it is."
She felt a bit silly for overreacting. Knowing Professor Rowen or someone close to him was impressive enough. How could she suspect Amelia was Professor Rowen?
Aurora College students always said Professor Rowen was a gentle man.
Vivienne felt relieved by her guess, but someone else was fuming with their own suspicions.
