Chapter 143: 143
"Vivienne!"
A young nurse burst in recklessly and stopped in her tracks, frightened by the sight of a room full of doctors of various ranks.
Freya had already guessed the nurse's intention and asked with a smile, "Is there something important you need to tell Vivienne?"
The young nurse looked at Dr. Freya, who was known as a goddess in the psychiatry department, and felt inexplicably scared.
But the matter was urgent, so she handed her phone to Vivienne. "Vivienne, that patient just went to your school!"
On the phone screen was a newly registered live stream. Stella and Ava, who were supposed to be in the obstetrics department, were now at the entrance of Serenity University.
They were accompanied by a group of security personnel, holding a banner that read: [Serenity University student caused a miscarriage, we demand justice from Serenity University.]
Ava wasn't throwing a fit; instead, she was elegantly dressed and remained silent. If it weren't for the fact that she refused to budge despite the security's attempts to persuade her, she wouldn't have seemed like someone there to cause trouble at all.
Stella, on the other hand, was being supported by hired personnel, crying in the wind.
This contrast attracted a lot of attention. The entrance of Serenity University was already a busy place with teachers, students, and visitors coming and going, and soon a crowd gathered.
Ava finally spoke with a sorrowful expression amidst the crowd's inquiries, "My daughter and I trusted the authority of Serenity University and came for a psychological check-up. Who knew that a graduate student, who wasn't qualified to see patients independently, would take it upon themselves to do so!"
"My daughter is perfectly normal, but she falsely diagnosed her with a severe mental illness. When we refused to believe it, she hinted that we should give them money or see another doctor!"
"My daughter didn't want to pay, and when she argued with her, she was so upset that she almost had a miscarriage!"
Stella cooperated by sobbing a few times.
The onlookers whispered among themselves, and some students, deceived by the two's appearance, angrily demanded that the school expel the student.
Seeing the situation getting worse, a few people finally rushed over. "It's all a misunderstanding!"
"We just spoke with the hospital, and your daughter..."
"What misunderstanding?"
Ava interrupted a young man standing at the back with a loud shout, "Is my daughter's pregnancy report fake?"
"I thought Serenity University was fair, but it turns out you're protecting your own students!"
Ava dared to lie publicly because Stella's pregnancy report indeed had issues.
At worst, she believed that Freya, who had hinted they should come to the school, would cover for them.
As soon as the "pregnancy report" was mentioned, the person on the other side stopped the young man from speaking and said to Ava, "Ma'am, we understand the situation. How about we go inside to talk? It's windy out here, and your daughter can't handle the cold."
Ava adjusted Stella's shawl. "It's fine to talk here."
"Otherwise, once we go inside, you'll have the final say."
The leader saw that Ava was determined to resolve the matter on the spot and glanced at the growing crowd, feeling a headache coming on.
Initially, the psychology department said the student was excellent and should not be punished if possible, but now it seemed impossible.
He made a quick decision, "How about this, ma'am? We'll consider expelling Vivienne. Will that satisfy you?"
Ava raised her chin. "Her poor character and limited ability mean expelling her is the right thing to do. It has nothing to do with us."
"Then what do you want?"
Ava's eyes shifted. "How about this, my daughter's future was affected by her false accusations. It's not too much to ask for a graduate school spot."
"What?"
"She's too much!"
At Serenity University Hospital, Vivienne saw Ava lying and trying to extort the school on the screen, while she was unfairly given an expulsion notice. She shouted angrily, "Lies! Stella clearly..."
Vivienne wanted to say that Stella had severe mental issues and that the pregnancy complications were due to that.
But seeing the increasing number of doctors and patients in the room and at the door, her professional ethics as a psychiatrist made her choose to stay silent.
"I told you this intern is stubborn."
Raymond, standing nearby, sneered quietly.
He could tell what this single-minded intern was thinking.
She would rather sacrifice her future than compromise her professional ethics.
What an idiot!
Raymond's phone vibrated in his doctor's uniform. It was a call from a familiar teacher at Serenity University's academic office.
"Raymond, Vivienne is your intern, right? Is she with you?"
"We're communicating with the patient's family. Can you have her come over and apologize? We want to avoid expulsion if possible."
"Wait... hand the phone to Vivienne. I'll let the patient's family talk to her."
Raymond covered the phone's microphone and handed it to Vivienne, glaring at her disapprovingly. "The family wants to talk to you. Be smart and soften your attitude!"
"Don't ruin your future!"
Vivienne bit her lip and took the phone.
"Dr. Mae, do you realize your mistake now?"
"I have to say, your school is really protecting you, even offering a spot in the finance graduate program to avoid expulsion."
"You should be grateful for such a good school."
"As long as you admit your mistake, this matter will be over. It's a good deal."
Vivienne listened to the voice on the phone and remembered Ava's initial threat.
"...Guess how long you'll last here if I take action?"
This sentence suddenly became clear in her mind.
She hadn't taken it seriously at the time, but now it felt like a stab in her heart, bleeding.
However, Vivienne still said seriously, "I, won't."
Yielding to Ava meant compromising her professional ethics, and she was unwilling to do that.
Raymond, standing nearby, widened his eyes and watched as Vivienne hung up the phone. He couldn't help but tap her on the head. "You're really stubborn! That's expulsion! Expulsion!"
"Thank you, Dr. Carter. I know you're trying to help, but I'm young, and I'm not afraid of expulsion."
Raymond didn't say anything, but his expression was complicated.
Amelia, standing nearby, laughed.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
Vivienne nodded seriously. "Others may not know what Ms. Davis did, but you do, Amelia. So don't try to persuade me. I don't think I'm wrong."
Freya watched the interaction between the two and felt a sense of irony.
These two looked noble, willing to sacrifice everything for their ideals, but in reality, they had no degrees and no jobs.
Especially Amelia, a psychologist from an unknown school, dared to take her place and become Sawyer's exclusive counselor. Now that she was on her turf, she had to behave!
Finally gaining an upper hand over Amelia, Freya felt very pleased.
