Chapter 138: What the Hell Are You Doing
She shoved him hard, her blood-stained lips brushing against his. "George, what the hell are you doing?"
"Do you love me?" he asked, eyes intense.
Isabella frowned. "Of course I love you."
"Then will you fall for someone else?"
Isabella was confused but answered confidently, "Of course not."
"Then say it. Say you love me."
"George, are you okay?" She didn't blame him for hurting her but gently cupped his face. "Are you feeling sick? Do you need a doctor?"
"Say it," George yelled, veins popping on his neck. "Say you love me."
Isabella had never seen George so out of control. She was scared but still said, "I love you."
"Love who? Me, him, or some random guy?"
"George."
"Say it!" George glared at her.
"Do you even know what you're saying? What random guy? What do you mean?"
"The guy who chats and laughs with you, dances with you, ties your shoelaces. Isn't he the random guy? I don't think you're really committed to me."
Isabella got it. George was jealous of Adrian. But she had clearly asked George for help earlier, and he didn't step in. "George, Adrian is your cousin. I talk and dance with him out of respect for you and the Spencer family."
"So what?" George grabbed her chin. "You just enjoy his compliments, his care, his invitations?"
"I don't." Isabella felt drained. George wasn't usually this jealous, but today he was relentless.
"Isabella, you don't love me at all. You just love a great guy, it could be anyone."
Such a heavy accusation weighed on Isabella, making it hard to breathe. "I do love you, how could you doubt that?"
George's face was flushed, either from alcohol or anger. She didn't want to confront him head-on; he was in a bad state.
"If you think I'd fall for a guy I barely know, then you're so wrong. If I didn't love you, would I have your kids? If I didn't love you, would I be happy being your wife? George, you're not thinking straight."
"Yeah, I'm just an idiot." George's face was red down to his neck, and his voice was muffled.
Isabella didn't want to argue. "I think you need to calm down."
"Then go, leave me alone." George draped his arm over his forehead, his chest heaving.
George wasn't usually like this. Isabella asked, "George, what's wrong with you?"
Isabella picked up her phone, ready to call Daniel to come to the Spencer Manor and check on George.
Before she could dial, George hugged her. She was taken aback by the hug. "If you're sick, you need to see a doctor. I can't handle you going crazy like this."
"I'm not sick, just let me hold you for a while." At this moment, George was as fragile as a child. Clearly, he was the one throwing a tantrum, but it seemed like Isabella owed him something.
Her hand slowly stroked his thick hair. "Is the pressure too much lately? Trouble at the company? It's okay, if you need money, I have some here, you can take it."
Isabella's understanding made George feel like a total jerk for his outburst. He knew she loved him. His fingers gently brushed her lips. "Does it still hurt?"
Isabella shook her head. "You didn't mean to."
"It was my fault. I lost it for a moment." George had calmed down a lot.
"Everyone has bad days, but please don't doubt my love for you, okay?" She looked him straight in the eyes.
"Okay."
For the first time ever, George had lost control and taken it out on the person he loved most. It was all on him.
Maybe he loved her too much. Seeing her so happy and close with other men made him crazy with jealousy.
"Want some water?" She poured a glass and handed it to him.
George took it. "Thanks."
"Let's go downstairs. Leaving Patricia to entertain the guests alone will get people talking." Isabella gently took George's hand, acting like nothing had happened. "Let's go."
Downstairs, the party was still in full swing.
Patricia spotted them. "Isabella, come say a few words."
The party, thrown especially for Isabella, was winding down.
Patricia handed her the microphone. Isabella took a deep breath. The crowd was full of relatives and well-known socialites from Stellar City.
She had to choose her words carefully. "Thank you all for coming to this party Patricia so thoughtfully prepared for me. She knows I've been through a lot lately and feels for me. I'm very grateful and touched. So, thank you, Patricia."
Patricia nodded, pleased.
Isabella then looked at George. "I also want to thank my husband. In life, he's my mentor, my role model, and my rock. He always helps and cares for me when I'm at my lowest. I hope that in the years to come, I'll always hold his hand and never let go. Finally, thank you all for coming. I've prepared a small gift for everyone, and I hope you like it."
The crowd erupted in applause.
Thalia pouted, "What a talker! If she doesn't cheat on George in the future, I'll walk backward."
"I know what you're thinking, but let me tell you, even if you like George, Patricia won't let you act out. You're the daughter of the Baker family." Adrian's comment made Thalia bristle.
She shot Adrian a disdainful look. "A Baker? I'm just adopted. It has nothing to do with the family reputation. I like George, and no one can stop me."
Adrian frowned. "Just a friendly reminder."
"Thanks, but I don't need your advice. I've always been free-spirited. I didn't change because of my background when I was a kid, and now that I'm in my twenties, I'm not going to lose myself because of the Baker family name." Thalia rolled her eyes.
