Chapter 179

I wasn't sure if Gabriel would go around telling everyone about our divorce like I did. But at least those close friends of his, and that replacement true love, should know, right?

Either way, none of it had anything to do with me anymore.

When Ceria heard about my divorce, she seemed even happier than I was.

"Ember, this is seriously worth celebrating."

"Why do I feel like you're happier about my divorce than you were about my wedding?" I teased Ceria with a laugh.

"I was against you marrying that ice block from the start!" Ceria shouted on the other end.

"So how should we celebrate?"

The conversation quickly shifted to how we'd celebrate my divorce.

"How can we celebrate? We're on opposite sides of the world." I sighed quietly.

If there was one downside to being abroad, it was not being able to hang out with my best friend whenever I wanted to share my joy.

"So what?" Ceria looked down at her backup phone, scrolling through something, then held it up to show me.

"Done. I booked a restaurant and a place to stay. Wait for me." Ceria said excitedly.

I was both surprised and thrilled. I immediately reserved a restaurant table and waited eagerly for Ceria to arrive.

I figured bars weren't that safe, so I decided to hit the supermarket and cook at home instead. Ceria and I could have a few drinks there.

As I pushed my completely full shopping cart toward checkout, a familiar voice came from behind me. "Ember."

I turned around to see a girl with her hair in a bun, wearing a white dress, looking at me sweetly.

It was Azure!

I was surprised. I'd escaped all the way abroad and I still ran into her?

What rotten luck.

I looked up at Azure. "Aren't you in Seashire City? Why are you here?"

Seeing Azure stay silent, I smiled. "Of course, that's your private business. If you don't want to say, you don't have to."

I hated seeing this two-faced girl looking all pitiful. It just annoyed me more.

"I don't mind telling you." Azure awkwardly explained.

"I'm here to study abroad."

Azure's emotions seemed complicated as she stared at me. "Ember, why are you abroad too?"

"I'm working here."

After brushing her off with a few casual words, I turned to leave.

Azure really did have some skills. Even though Gabriel treated her as a replacement for his true love, she hadn't lost out—she'd gotten what she wanted.

I didn't even need to think to know Gabriel must have pulled strings for Azure to study abroad.

Just my luck—when I lined up to check out, Azure was standing in the queue right next to mine.

I glanced instinctively at her cart. The toothbrushes and towels were all for two people.

So they were already living together?

I felt somewhat wistful. Maybe this was for the best—the two of them could finally live like a normal couple.

Now that Gabriel and I were divorced, Azure didn't have to be called a mistress anymore. I was sure Gabriel had plenty of ways to help Azure convince her family.

I didn't want to think about it anymore. After putting my groceries away at home, I drove to the airport to pick up Ceria.

When Ceria came out and saw me, she pounced on me like a cat in heat.

"Ember, I missed you so much!"

I pretended to push Ceria away in disgust. "Alright, get in the car."

Ceria stared at my face and couldn't help praising me. "See? Now that you're divorced and away from that toxic man, you look so much better."

I wondered what Gabriel would think if he heard Ceria say that.

"Guess who I ran into at the supermarket?" I said to Ceria with a smile.

"Some cute foreign guy with a thing for you."

Of course, I'd just gotten divorced and Ceria was already plotting my next romance.

"I ran into Azure."

If I didn't reveal the answer, who knew what story Ceria would make up.

"What?" Ceria almost couldn't believe her ears.

"You heard right. Azure."

"I bumped into her while grocery shopping. She must be living with Gabriel—I saw her buying double sets of towels and toothbrushes."

I smiled slightly, like I was gossiping about someone irrelevant.

"Wait, so you're saying Gabriel's here too?" Ceria looked at me, clearly annoyed.

"Always saying he was too busy with work to stay home with you, but he can fly abroad with that two-faced bitch?"

Ceria gritted her teeth and spat on the ground.

"What's more disgusting is he's haunting you like a ghost! Did he come here on purpose to rub his relationship in your face?"

I shook my head with a laugh. "Let's just wish them a long and happy life together."

The car slowly pulled up to my apartment building. I pulled Ceria upstairs. "Let's not talk about unhappy things. Come see what goodies I bought for you."

"I'm telling you, Ember, you've got some nerve. They're being gross right in your face and you don't even care?"

Ceria was about ready to explode.

"It's probably just a coincidence."

From what I remembered, Gabriel shouldn't be bored enough to deliberately mess with me after we'd already split up.

Honestly, my cooking skills were pretty terrible. After working in the kitchen all evening, barely anything I made was edible.

"Forget it, I'll just go grab takeout." I got up to head downstairs. Ceria stayed home to clean up the kitchen disaster.

There was a pretty decent restaurant near my place. The moment I walked in, I noticed people whispering.

Following everyone's gaze, I saw that familiar face.

It was Gabriel!

Since when was this foreign country so small? Running into people I didn't want to see twice in one day.

Gabriel slowly looked up and obviously saw me too.

He walked over with those long strides of his.

I could feel those burning stares following Gabriel's steps and landing on me.

My face felt hot.

"What a coincidence!"

Gabriel spoke slowly, looking at me.

"I guess."

I brushed him off and quickly grabbed my takeout containers, ready to leave.

But Gabriel followed me.

I stared at him, annoyed. "Why are you following me?"

My gaze fell on Gabriel's takeout boxes. "Food from this place doesn't taste good when it's cold. You should hurry and take it back to your roommate."

Hearing my words, Gabriel froze. "What roommate?"

"What? Playing dumb?"

I looked at Gabriel with a smile. "It's fine. We're already divorced, so whoever you're with has nothing to do with me anymore."
