Chapter 309: The FitzRoy Family’s Young Lady
Watching the screen, Sophia couldn't help exclaiming.
"Confronting her directly?"
She paused, then looked at Lancelot. "Everard already found evidence about Gabriel and Magnolia's murders? Is this the confrontation?"
"So smart." Lancelot tapped Sophia's nose, smiling indulgently. "After so many years, it's time the truth came out. Can't wait any longer."
"Revenge truly takes forever." Sophia seemed to relate, then kept her eyes glued to the screen, completely missing the indulgent gaze beside her.
Vivian stared at Everard without speaking.
Everard chuckled softly. "You didn't think there'd be zero flaws, did you?"
"Unfortunately, I found someone. Someone who should be dead but is still alive."
"Sawyer."
In the adjacent room, hearing that name, Sophia's whole body shook. She stared at the screen, unable to react.
Especially seeing the man she'd called 'father' for over twenty years walk into the next room—she froze completely.
Watching her, Lancelot sighed softly, pulled her into his arms, and explained in a low voice.
"Mr. Percy was Mr. Gabriel FitzRoy's bodyguard, responsible for his safety."
"After discovering something wrong, Mr. FitzRoy arranged for Mr. Percy to protect his wife and daughter."
"The wife died, the daughter vanished, and Mr. Percy disappeared then too."
"All these years, Vivian's had people hunting him, but never succeeded."
Sophia's expression was somewhat dazed, yet her mind was exceptionally clear.
Everything she couldn't understand before connected in this moment.
It wasn't about difficult childbirth making her mother dislike her. Her mother had died protecting Sophia long ago.
And Sawyer protected her, loved her, sometimes showing guilt and respect in his eyes—because Sophia wasn't his daughter, but the daughter of Mr. Gabriel FitzRoy, whom he served!
Actually, long ago, Sophia had considered they might not be her parents.
But when the truth revealed itself so forcefully, strong as she was, cracks appeared in her heart.
Nearly a minute later, Sophia found her voice. "When did you know?"
"The first time I met you."
Sophia froze, looking at him in confusion.
Lancelot gently traced her features. "You look very much like your mother."
One sentence explained everything.
The world might have unrelated people who looked similar, but for something this significant, how could they do nothing?
With Lancelot's status, privately investigating and confirming Sophia's identity was too simple.
She looked at Everard on the screen, her voice hoarse. "He knows too?"
Lancelot replied, "Everard only found out at your last meeting."
Lancelot sighed softly, pulling her into his arms. "Everard's been searching for you but didn't dare make it public, afraid Vivian would find out."
"These years, he's seemed like the glamorous Mr. FitzRoy, but life's been hard."
"Even with Mr. Dane FitzRoy protecting him, Everard's faced danger several times."
"I didn't dare let Everard know you existed, afraid he'd act rashly."
"But after Everard saw you last time, he accelerated his plans. He couldn't watch his sister be bullied while powerless."
Sophia wanted to cry but couldn't shed tears.
Had she suffered these years?
Yes—unloved by 'mother,' struggling alone.
But at least she had Sawyer who adored her. Before the marriage with William fell apart, she'd never faced truly life-threatening situations.
Even afterward, constantly schemed against, Lancelot had protected her.
What about Everard?
He'd truly grown up surrounded by schemes, carved his way out through sheer will, while still thinking of her.
In this moment, Sophia suddenly felt all those grievances she'd suffered didn't matter.
She stood abruptly, startling Lancelot.
"What's wrong?"
"I need to help him. Help my brother."
Sophia strode out quickly. Lancelot didn't stop her, following behind.
Lancelot would always be behind her, protecting her while letting Sophia do what she wanted.
When Sophia pushed open the room door again, everyone's gaze landed on her.
Especially Vivian's.
Her expression was no longer breezy, that hint of kindness completely gone.
"You... Magnolia FitzRoy? How are you still alive!"
Vivian's face twisted, her eyes venomous, as if wanting to kill Sophia with her gaze. "No, you died long ago! You're already dead! You can't be alive!"
Sophia walked toward her step by step, a smile on her face. "Why should I die? You destroyed my family, hurt my child. Even if I went to hell, I'd crawl back out to take your life!"
That last sentence made Vivian scream.
"Impossible! Magnolia, you should die, die!"
Vivian's chaotic voice showed she'd been greatly shocked facing Sophia.
Everard chuckled, standing and walking toward Sophia. "Ms. FitzRoy is different indeed. Just appearing resolved everything. My years of planning seem meaningless."
He'd just exchanged a glance with Lancelot—clearly knowing everything about Sophia and Lancelot next door.
Sophia, whose eyes had been dry moments ago, suddenly moistened seeing Everard approach.
She suddenly understood why the FitzRoy family tragedy had made her so sad.
And why it hurt when he defended Elowen without regard for facts.
"Brother."
Sophia's soft voice, tinged with tears, made Everard's eyes redden too.
Everard pulled her into his arms. "Good girl. Brother failed you, let you suffer so much. Never again. From now on, brother will protect you. No one will hurt you again."
The room's occupants wore complex expressions.
Neither Finnian nor William had imagined Sophia was the FitzRoy family's missing heiress from twenty years ago.
After all, in everyone's eyes, the FitzRoy family's little girl had been so young then—probably long dead.
Elowen hadn't processed it either.
She'd thought she was competing with a woman of no background. Turned out it was the FitzRoy family.
The FitzRoy family heiress who had a marriage agreement with the Clifford family. What could she do now?
Most devastated was naturally Vivian.
Only now did she realize—Magnolia's daughter hadn't died!
"You're that bitch's daughter? What happened back then didn't kill you? Your life is truly charmed!"
Everard looked over coldly. "Vivian, you really think your scheme was flawless? Sawyer didn't die. I've uncovered everything from back then. What do you think awaits you? Nothing but endless imprisonment."
He paused, then suddenly smiled. "Actually, probably not even that. After all, there's the death penalty. And with how much blood is on your hands—do you even remember clearly?"
"Why!"
Vivian suddenly screamed, staring at Everard. "Gabriel—I knew you first, treated you best. Why did you fall for her? Magnolia was a bitch! Pretending to be my best friend while stealing my man!"
