Chapter 389
Chapter 389
When Adeline arrived, the hospital room was already empty.
After calling Henry, she learned they were in the surveillance room.
The surveillance room.
The room was dim, with only the glow from the monitor screens.
Sterling and Henry stood before the surveillance footage, their expressions grave.
"Have you found Ms. Spencer's whereabouts?" Adeline broke the silence.
As her voice fell, the stagnant air began to flow again.
Henry glared furiously at Sterling. "Where is that Matthew's law firm? I'm going to find him right now!"
The surveillance footage clearly showed Matthew carrying the unconscious Willow, along with Maria, leaving the hospital room before dawn.
Adeline also saw the footage, her expression becoming somewhat subtle.
"He won't tell you," Sterling said.
Henry roared, "This is kidnapping! My sister is unconscious! Taking her away without her knowledge is a criminal act, and he's a lawyer!"
Seeing Sterling say nothing, Henry turned to leave. "If you won't say anything, I'll investigate myself! I'm going to get his law license revoked!"
Sterling's face was cold and grim as he stared at the surveillance footage without speaking.
Henry strode toward the door.
Adeline kindly reminded him, "You just said he's knowingly breaking the law. Even if you get him arrested, he still won't tell you."
Henry's steps faltered. He turned back and vented his anger on her. "And you! After all this treatment, why hasn't my sister woken up? If we can't find her, not only is our agreement void, but the Wilson family won't be able to wash their hands of today's events either!"
He pointed at Adeline from a distance, seething with rage.
Adeline's gaze turned cold. "Ms. Spencer is unconscious, yes, but Mrs. Spencer is awake and cooperating with Matthew. Do you think that Matthew would randomly take Ms. Spencer away without Mrs. Spencer's permission?"
Henry had naturally noticed this point but was unwilling to accept it, which was why he was taking it out on Adeline.
Now that Adeline had exposed it, Henry's feigned anger gradually dissipated, and he finally ground his teeth in frustration.
"At the very least, you should tell me where he's hiding my sister?" He said.
Henry looked at Sterling, who had been silent the whole time, and his anger flared up again. "Your wife has been hidden away, and you're not worried at all?"
Sterling glanced at him without responding and left the surveillance room on his own.
"Where are you going?" Henry tried to chase after him but was a step too slow, watching as the elevator doors closed in front of him.
Adeline walked out from behind. "Ms. Spencer should have woken up."
Henry turned around, looking at her skeptically. "How do you know?"
Adeline said, "When I treated her last time, I said she would wake up in the next couple of days. Besides, if she hadn't woken up, Mrs. Spencer and that lawyer probably wouldn't dare to take her from the hospital so casually."
Henry's mood calmed down. Thinking that Willow had already woken up, he felt both relieved and even more worried.
So, did Matthew take her away at Maria's request, or did Willow also agree to it?
Had the Brown family still disappointed Willow?
Thinking of this possibility, Henry felt uneasy.
Adeline's voice sounded in his ear.
"If Ms. Spencer has woken up, it means her body is mostly fine. She just needs time to recuperate."
She looked at Henry. "I've completed what the agreement required of me. I hope Mr. Brown won't go back on his word either."
Henry was agitated. "I always keep my word."
Then he added, "Since our marriage is now settled, shouldn't we make some preparations in advance?"
Adeline frowned in confusion.
Henry directly grabbed her wrist. "Let's go. Today we'll start by ordering the wedding rings."
He really didn't know how to explain this to his parents when he got back.
Adeline had no chance to refuse and was pulled out of the hospital by him.
Meanwhile.
Willow slowly opened her eyes.
Her first sensation upon waking was the slight jolting of a moving vehicle.
She was currently in a car with only a few scattered passengers.
Willow furrowed her brow warily. "Grandma..."
She wanted to ask Maria what was going on. She had clearly been in the hospital, so how was she now in a car? Had they been kidnapped?
Maria turned to look at her and reassuringly held her hand.
"I'm here. Don't be afraid." Maria said. "I'm taking you home."
Home?
Willow was confused again.
The prolonged unconsciousness had left her extremely weak, and her mind wasn't working quite right.
Maria supported her head, letting her lean against her. "Your body is still very weak. Don't talk. Just sleep, and when you wake up, we'll be there."
Willow was full of questions, not knowing what had happened, and lacking the energy to think about it.
As the vehicle moved, drowsiness swept over her again, causing her to drift back to sleep.
In her dreams, she vaguely saw Sterling saying something to her, but Willow couldn't hear clearly, no matter what.
She woke up several times along the way. Each time she woke, they were still on the road, though they seemed to have switched vehicles a few times. Willow couldn't quite remember.
During the last stretch, she was awake, watching the car enter a small county town and stop outside an old residential complex.
"We're here." Maria's voice sounded. "Please help me with the child. She's sick and not feeling well, so she can't walk on her own."
The driver readily agreed and came over to help Maria support Willow as they entered the complex.
At the entrance to the apartment building, an elderly woman who looked very much like Maria was waiting at the door.
"Willow, this is your Great-Aunt Brooke Reed." Maria introduced her. "From now on, we'll be living at her place. This is also my home."
Willow endured the pain and politely greeted the elderly woman. "Great-Aunt Brooke."
Brooke said with concern, "You must have had a hard journey. Don't be shy now. Come, I'll help you upstairs to rest."
With that, Brooke took over from the driver and, together with Maria, helped Willow up the stairs.
The two elderly women hadn't seen each other in years and talked all the way up about their lives over the years.
Upstairs, Brooke opened the door and helped Willow inside.
The apartment wasn't large, but it was decorated warmly with a real sense of home.
For a moment, Willow had the illusion of being back at the Spencer Villa.
"Since you've come back, feel free to settle in," Brooke said kindly. "I've been living alone all these years. Your grandma is right—just treat it like your own home."
Willow smiled obediently at her. The wound hurt terribly, and her complexion was even paler than before.
"What's going on? Did you eat something bad on the way back?" Brooke didn't know what had happened and, seeing Willow's complexion, was somewhat worried. "Should we go to the hospital?"
She turned to seek Maria's opinion.
Maria shook her head. "No need. We just came from the hospital."
Hearing this, Brooke's frown deepened.
