Chapter 167: Just leave my brother
Rachel's POV
"I'm back," I yelled throwing my purse by the closet chair I could see.
A maid came up to me and curtly bowed before picking up my purse. " Good evening ma'am". She greeted me respectfully before leaving.
I watched as she left skeptically, "Ok, what was that?"
It was the same maid which I saw a few days ago with Victoria, yes, the same one who hated me a few months ago.
Why did she just carry my bag inside?
Although all the maid's attitudes changed after I came back to the house, none of them had ever done a thing like that.
"You're just being paranoid, Rachel. It's nothing." I said to myself, snapping away from my thoughts before walking up the stairs.
"Where are you coming from?"
Those were the first words that greeted me as I climbed up the stairs. I halted before turning around to put a face to the familiar voice.
"Hannah?"
"I asked where you're coming from," Hannah said again, anger emanating from her cold voice.
Was she perhaps angry at me? I wondered, raising a brow at her. " Why are you asking that?"
"Because you left with my son." she seethed from her tightly joined teeth.
"Yeah? He's back, isn't he? Then why are you asking?"
A thought suddenly came to my head.
'Could it be that she was asking because she wanted to inform Olivia?'
Olivia was her best friend, so it wasn't so impossible that she was helping her commit her crimes.
Hannah's eyes went round, and she scoffed before crossing her hands on her chest. "You left him alone! A seven-year-old. What if he had gotten lost?"
"Your kid is smart, there was no way he would have gotten lost. Also, he ran around the mall like it was his playground, so I can bet that he knew his way around already, even if he didn't... Like I just said, he's smart, he'll figure it out, which he did."
Why was I even giving this woman this much of an explanation?
And why was she acting so innocent like she had no idea what was going on?
' I can see through that mask of your Hannah, you are definitely aware of everything '
" So you think that justifies you leaving him alone?" She asked with a snort.
I pursed my lips tightly before letting out a sigh. " I don't have to answer to you ". I said before resuming my walk.
" You... " I heard her yell but turned a deaf ear and continued walking.
What happened next completely took me by surprise. Hannah grabbed my hands and dragged me into an empty room, immediately locking it as soon as we got in.
" What the fuck? Let go of me! " I yelled, shoving her away and taking a step back.
Now I was sure Hannah knew everything; if not, why was she doing exactly what Olivia did?
"You planned this with her, didn't you?" Is asked in disbelief, taking a few more steps back.
"Planned what? " Hannah looked confused for a second, then she brushed it off, and her confused expression disappeared. " I have to talk to you "
I blinked twice before releasing a scoff.
"That was exactly what she said after I woke in an empty stall, which, by the way, forced me in after stuffing a handkerchief filled with chloroform in my nose!!!"
" She? "Hannah's eyes widened again, and I saw a hint of fear in her eyes. "Do you mean Olivia? "
Maybe she was just afraid that I found out about it. How funny.
" Do I mean Olivia? " I laughed sarcastically shaking my head before looking back at Hannah, my expression morphing into a serious one. " Of course, I mean Olivia, your best friend, the person you are working for. "
" Do you know she killed Lana? "
What was I saying? She probably did.
"You know that? She told you that?... No, that's not the right question, " Hannah looked back at the door checking it to make sure it was really locked before she looked back at me.
" She met you?" She asked.
"Isn't that pretty obvious? " I stared at her incredulously fighting the urge to just scratch her pretty face.
" Why are you acting so darn clueless? Like you had no idea of everything when you planned this out with her! "
My frustration that Marina had managed to curl almost an hour ago began to slowly come back.
" I don't even understand your motive. Is it that you don't want to see your brother around other women, or that you just prefer Olivia for him. "
Hannah glared at me almost immediately" What are you even saying? Can't you see I'm as shocked as you are? I thought we had an agreement. "
" She was supposed to not do anything stupid until everything clears out. Telling you about Lana's death and everything else, is the definition of stupid ". She said more to herself than me, but I heard it anyway.
So what was she trying to imply? That she knew about everything and was trying to cover up for Olivia? Did she think that me thinking that was helping her case?
"Look here, Hannah..."
"No, you listen " . Hannah raised her head to look at me and said interrupting me. " If I said you're the cause of all our problems, I'd be lying..."
"Of course, you'll be lying. " I hushed her with my sarcastic laughter. " You... " I pointed at her. " Are the cause of my... " I pointed back at myself. " Problems ".
" You killed Lana! "
For the first time in my life, I started to feel claustrophobic.
I already had severe aerophobia, adding another phobia wouldn't seem like the best thing.
I had to get out of here before Hannah just snapped and decided to kill me here and now. I thought to myself, moving past Hannah and towards the door.
"No, I didn't." Hannah refuted, rushing towards me and holding down my hands on the door. " I didn't".
I yanked my hands away from hers and stepped back. "Oh, but you aided her in doing it, and now you both want to kill me too ".
"Kill you? Rachel don't be delusional." Hannah rolled her eyes. " Because I knew that Olivia killed Lana that doesn't mean I aided her or want to kill you "
Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. "Yeah, like I would believe that shit."
What did she think I was? A seven-year-old child? Even Jake wouldn't believe it if he heard the same full story, let alone me. That's the center of this entire thing.
"I don't care what you believe, but I'm telling the truth," Hannah said firmly. "Yes, I know about Olivia's crimes, I only found out a few days ago, and I confronted her."
"She said she was going to stop, she said she was going to not do anything stupid, but I guess she went back on her word".
' So she wouldn't do anything stupid because you asked her? Someone so obsessed with Ethan to the point of killing people wouldn't do anything because Hannah asked her? How the hell was I to believe that? '
Even if I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt since most of what I thought this day had been wrong... It was too hard.
" Why?" I asked in a much calmer voice, taking in slow breaths. " Why would she just agree to sit tight and relax? She committed murder just because she wanted Ethan you know "
Hannah let out a deep sigh as she unhanded the door knob.
My eyes darted towards the knob... All I had to do was to get there, turn the knob, and sprint towards Ethan so I'll expose all these people. I thought.
"Because..." Hannah began to speak and I returned my gaze back to her. " Because I promised her that you would leave my brother".
That I would what now?
I felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water was poured on my entire body.
"Why would you promise that? Don't you care for your brother?" I asked as I gaped at her in disbelief." Ethan is in love with me, and I am with him; how can you promise that?"
"Because his life is in danger with you!"
