Seventy-One

Laura

For eight days Liam was in a coma, the doctor said he hit his head very hard, thankfully he was using the seat belt so the injury was not bad, and there was no internal bleeding, he was in the ICU for those eight days and when the doctor was certain he was stable, he told the nurses to transfer him to a private ward.

They were doing that when Liam finally opened his eyes.

"He's awake," one of the nurses said and I moved closer to see that Liam's eyes were really opened, I made a move to touch him but he moved his hand away from me, that action cut deep into my heart hurting me but I knew I deserved it.

"What are you doing here?" he asked frowning.

"Um, I... I was..."

"How are you feeling Mr. Miller, do you know who she is?" One of the nurses asked to save me.

"I do, I can never forget who she is," he said looking directly at me, I could hear hate in his voice and I could see the anger burning in his cold blue eyes.

"That's great, we are moving you there," the nurse said and with that, they moved him to a private ward.

I called Ethan who left only that morning and I informed him that Liam was awake, he arrived with everyone in less than an hour.

"How is he doing?" Ethan asked.

"He's doing fine, the doctor said he doesn't have amnesia and he doesn't have any complications, they said he can get discharged in two weeks" I explained and he nodded.

"Why are you not inside child?" Mrs. Miller asked and I held my breath for a second.

"I... I..."

"She was probably waiting for us," Isabella said and I nodded

"Yes, I was waiting for you guys to arrive, the doctor said only three people can see him at a time so you guys should go ahead," I said and Mrs. Miller looked at me for almost a minute before nodding.

She went inside with Maria and Isabella leaving me, Tracy, and Ethan.

"Tell me, Laura, why are you not inside, I want to hear the real reason," Tracy said holding my hand.

"Tracy, I'm scared," I said and she pulled me into a comforting hug.

"I was scared, when he saw me, he asked me what was I doing there and I didn't know what to say, I can't tell him the whole truth now because I'm leaving soon, what do I do? "I asked and she pulled me back a bit.

"I don't know Laura, how about you..."

"How about you tell him the whole truth and stay? Laura, I still don't think you should leave, I don't believe in this whole you are cursed thing, everything is just a coincidence," Ethan said and I shook my head.

"Why are these things happening now? Why couldn't it have been before I met Liam? Forget it, I'm not telling him anything and I'm begging you not to say anything to him, please," I said and he sighed

"Okay,"

"So what will you tell him?" Tracy asked and I thought long and hard until I finally came up with something to say.

"If he asks, we'll say I have something to tell him personally when he feels better," I said and they both gave me a weird look.

"What?"

"Do you think that would work?"

"I don't know, that's all I've been got, make sure you don't act like you are on good terms with me," I told them and they nodded.

A few minutes later Mrs. Miller and others came out and we went inside, Tracy and Ethan stood on one side of the bed while I stood on the other side.

"What is she doing here?" Liam asked and I opened my mouth to answer him

"Shut up, I'm not talking to you, what is she doing here?" He asked again this time looking directly at Ethan

"Um... She claims she has something very important to tell you as soon as you're feeling better," Ethan said and I nodded hoping he believed that.

"I don't want to hear it get out of here," he said folding his hands against his chest.

"I really need to tell you something important," I said trying to move closer to him but he glared at me.

"I said I don't want to hear it! What else do you have to say? Did you fake any other thing?" He asked making me speechless, I never faked anything but that was what I told him and I couldn't blame him for using it against me like that.

"Maybe you should hear what she has to say," Ethan said and he glared at Ethan too.

"Why should I?"

"I don't know, it might be really important like she said and what other harm can she do? She got 50 billion dollars already," Ethan said and Liam made a thinking face.

"Even if I give her a chance, I won't believe whatever she says because I know she would just cook up a pitiful story because she heard we won the contract,"

"That's true," Ethan said and my eyes widened

"But you should still hear her out," he added I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Fine, let's hear it,"

"Oh no, I can't tell you now, I have to tell you once you are completely fine," I said and he frowned.

"Then leave now and come back when I'm completely fine" he said pointing towards the door.

"I employed her," Ethan suddenly said and we all looked at him.

"I employed her to watch you and make sure you are fine and to make sure all your needs are seen, I'm sure you'll get better and leave the hospital soon because you won't want to keep seeing her face."

"What if she kills me? And you, 50 billion dollars is not enough?" He asked facing me.

"She won't kill you, Liam, I made sure of that and if you get as little as a scratch before you leave this hospital, I'll make her pay dearly, also no amount of money can be enough for someone like her," Ethan said and he nodded in agreement.

I watched them talk for a while before Ethan told Liam they had to go so they could take others back to Ethan's place.

After they left I stood where I was and Liam stayed in bed looking straight ahead like he was trying to ignore my presence, it hurts but I was satisfied with watching him from afar.

The nurse brought his dinner and she left, I moved closer and helped him dish the food. I was about to give it to him but he slapped it away from my hand.

The bowl fell on the floor and shattered, the content in it poured and scattered everywhere

"Clean it and get me something else," he said and I opened my mouth in surprise.

"But..."

"But nothing, do what I told you to do, you'll do anything for money, won't you? And I'm sure you'll go anywhere," he said and I bowed my head.

"Welcome to hell Laura,"
