Chapter 196: CHAPTER 196
Zack's arm was draped over her waist, his breathing slow and even against her neck. The clock on the mantle ticked softly, counting down the minutes.
Moonlight filtered through the heavy curtains of Ariel’s bedroom, casting pale silver across the bed where they lay tangled together.
Ariel watched the hands move as she held her breath. Eleven fifty-eight, Eleven fifty-nine. Ding! The clock finally struck midnight.
She was finally eighteen years old!
She turned in Zack’s arms, careful not to wake him too suddenly. Pressed her lips to his jaw, then his cheek, then the corner of his mouth.
"Zack."
He didn't stir.
She tried again, nudging his shoulder with her hand.
"Zack."
A soft sound escaped him. His eyes fluttered open, unfocused and drowsy. He blinked at her, then at the clock, then back at her. A slow smile spread across his face. He leaned in and kissed her, soft and lingering.
"Happy eighteenth birthday, my love," he whispered.
She kissed him back, deeper this time, threading her fingers through his hair. He pulled her closer, settling her against his chest, his arm tightening around her waist. His breathing began to slow again, settling back toward sleep.
Ariel waited a moment. Then she nudged him again.
"Zack."
He made a sound. Half question, half complaint. She nudged him once more. His eyes opened properly this time, focusing on her face in the dim light. He studied her expression, reading something there that made him fully awake.
"Can't sleep?" he asked, his voice rough with exhaustion. "Nervous about tomorrow?"
She shook her head.
He propped himself up on one elbow, concern softening his features. "Should I get you some warm chocolate? Help you sleep?"
Another shake of her head. He noticed the way she bit her lower lip as she shook her head, the flush on her cheeks, the way she wouldn't quite meet his eyes.
"Ariel." He touched her chin, gently guiding her gaze to his. "Do you need something?"
He kissed her, light and questioning. She pulled back just enough to speak.
"Is that all?"
He blinked. "What?"
She leaned closer, her lips brushing his ear. Her voice dropped to a whisper.
"I need more. I've waited months for it."
She nibbled at his earlobe, felt him shiver.
"I'm an adult now," she whispered. "As of midnight. I want to go all the way."
Zack went still.
He pulled back to look at her, searching her face for any hesitation, any doubt.
"Are you sure?"
"I've never been more sure." She held his gaze, steady and certain. "I've waited months for this day. For you."
He was quiet for a long moment. Then he reached up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I had planned this," he admitted. "Not like this. I thought... dinner somewhere private. Music. Setting the mood properly."
Ariel kissed him before he could finish, slow and deliberate. When she pulled back, her eyes were bright.
"With you," she said, "it's always a romantic mood."
She pushed him onto his back and climbed on top of him, straddling his hips. She felt him hard beneath her through the thin fabric of his sleep pants, and she ground down against him, making him groan.
"Ariel," he breathed, his hands finding her waist.
She ignored him, leaning down to kiss him properly, her tongue sliding into his mouth, her hands roaming over his chest, his shoulders, his arms. She wanted to touch all of him, learn all of him, claim all of him.
She broke the kiss and sat up, pulling her nightgown over her head in one smooth motion. The cool air hit her bare skin, but she didn't feel cold. She felt powerful, watching his eyes darken as he looked at her, his gaze roaming over her breasts, her stomach, the curve of her hips.
"Beautiful," he murmured, his voice rough.
She smiled and reached for the waistband of his pants, pulling them down until he was as bare as she was. He sprang free, hard and thick against his stomach, and she wrapped her hand around him, feeling the heat, the weight, the pulse of him.
"Ariel," he groaned, his hips bucking into her touch.
She stroked him slowly, learning the rhythm he liked, watching his face for every reaction. His eyes closed, his jaw tightened, his breathing grew ragged. She was doing this to him, making him feel this way, and the power of it was intoxicating.
He broke the kiss and lowered his head, his mouth finding her nipple. She cried out, her back arching, as he sucked hard, his tongue flicking back and forth, his hand kneading her other breast. The sensation was overwhelming, a direct line of pleasure from her chest to her core, and she ground against him, desperate for friction.
"Please," she whimpered, not sure what she was asking for.
He seemed to understand.
He rolled them over, pinning her beneath him, and kissed his way down her body. He paused at her breasts again, sucking each nipple in turn until she was writhing beneath him, her hands fisted in the sheets. Then he continued lower, kissing her stomach, her hip, her inner thigh.
He pushed her legs apart and settled between them, his breath hot against her most sensitive skin. He looked up at her, his eyes dark and hungry.
"Tell me if it's too much," he said.
"Don't stop," she breathed.
He lowered his head and licked into her, his tongue hot and skilled, finding the spot that made her see stars. She cried out, her hips bucking against his mouth, but he held her steady, his hands gripping her thighs, his tongue working her with a relentless rhythm.
She was climbing fast, higher and higher, her fingers tangled in his hair, her head thrown back. He slid one finger inside her, then two, curling them to hit a spot that made her gasp, and that was it, she was coming, her release crashing over her in waves that seemed endless.
"Zack!" she cried out, her body shaking, her vision whiting out.
He didn't stop, his tongue gentling, drawing out her pleasure until she was limp and gasping beneath him.
Only then did he lift his head, his lips glistening, his eyes dark with need.
"Ready?" he asked, his voice rough.
"Yes," she breathed.
He positioned himself at her entrance, the head of him pressing against her, and pushed in slowly. There was a brief stretch, a burning sensation, and then he was fully seated inside her, and they were both breathing hard, foreheads pressed together.
"Okay?" he managed.
"Yes." She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper. She met him thrust for thrust, her hips rising to meet his, her nails scoring his back. The pleasure built again, faster this time, her body already primed from her first release.
She did, her second release crashing over her even stronger than the first, her body clamping down around him, milking him. He groaned, his rhythm faltering, and she felt him swell inside her, felt him on the edge.
"Mark me," she whispered, her voice raw.
His eyes met hers, wild and wolf-bright, and she saw the moment instinct took over. His teeth lengthened, sharpened, and he struck, biting down where her neck met her shoulder, breaking skin, anchoring them together and in that exact moment as they finally became eternal, he released in her.
The pain was brief, a sharp burn that faded into warmth spreading through her entire body. As her blood touched his tongue, a matching mark bloomed on his neck, mirroring hers exactly. The same crescent, the same silver glow, the same impossible magic.
They stared at each other, breathing hard, connected in a way that went beyond the physical.
And then she felt it. The bond, always present, always humming between them, suddenly blazed into full, brilliant life. She could feel him in a way that made their previous connection seem like a whisper. His heartbeat, strong and steady, pulsing in her own chest.
He rolled onto his side, pulling her with him, still joined, fitting her against his body. Their marks pressed together, skin to skin, and the contact sent another wave of connection through them. She felt his exhaustion, his contentment, his fierce protective love. And she knew he felt hers too, her wonder, her certainty, her absolute trust.
“I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you too.”
Sleep finally claimed them, wrapped in each other's arms and each other's hearts.
